Tadich Grill San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Always a solid staple is excellent food and extraordinary
Always a solid staple is excellent food and extraordinary service. Just need to come early as it gets crowded
This is in my top 3 seafood restaurants in San Francisco!
This is in my top 3 seafood restaurants in San Francisco! The crab cakes were amazing and the best I've ever had by far! The cioppino was also the best I have had! Fresh scallops, mussels, shrimp, fish and other delights from the sea. The seafood casserole was full of shrimp and fresh crab served on the bed of rice outstanding! The service was the best I've ever had in my life! All the waiters wear white coats and ties. If you stop by ask for Bryant, he served us and made us feel right at home and gave outstanding recommendations for dinner if the rating have more than five stars, I would give it more!!!
The service was fast and friendly.
It's been a few years since I've been here. The food is dramatically more expensive than it was before, but it was still delicious. The bowl of cioppino was $58. If it had not been for a work lunch, I probably would not have ordered it. It did come with a lot of seafood, and it was very flavorful.
The biggest appeal of this place is that it is California's
The biggest appeal of this place is that it is California's Oldest Restaurant. When you walk up to the entrance and see the red Tadich Grill sign outside, you get a feel for the nostalgic "vibe" about the restaurant which continues as you enter and take your seat. As much as there is quite a hype about it being the oldest restaurant and all...the food felt quite mediocre to me and didn't stand out as being anything special. Very much an American dining experience but just lacked the flavor that I was expecting. Especially with the "oldest restaurant" hype and all. I had a clam chowder ( was ok) and for my main course I had the Mesquite Charcoal Broiled Petrale Sole Filet ( fish dish) and I did not enjoy the Petrale as it was quite bland. I actually really liked the cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots that came with the Petrale dish though. Moreso than the fish. Our server was quite friendly and professional. Although I was not head over heels about the food, I still thought this meal was a fun experience. Especially as this was my first time back in San Francisco in many years and I was visiting from Florida.
Our first visit to Tadich Grill.
Don't know how we hadn't heard about this place before, but we will be back. The food and service were excellent! I had the branzino. The skin of the fish was crispy and tasty. I was surprised I finished the entire fish complemented by a few bites of the wedge fried potatoes and veggies. My sister had the petrale sole which she also enjoyed. We both opted for the mesquite broiled preparation. Service was excellent.
175th anniversary? If you're not impressed that .
... It's an understatement to say that things have changed since my last visit about eight years ago. Coming in on a Tuesday a little after noon, there were three people standing inside by the door. The white jacketed gentleman behind the counter waved at me and asked how many diners. I held my index finger and he pointed me about halfway down the counter to a few open seats. After being offered bread and given a glass of ice water, I studied the menu after confirming the anniversary promo was still in effect. I started with a Bloody Mary (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=dJlPvvkD7H3yM_Mn5zrDwA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), the promo item offered at $1.75.... yes, a dollar and seventy-five cents. Being a workday, one would be my limit as it was a pretty stiff version. I enjoyed it and was happy to be able to walk a straight line back to my car after lunch. I started bowl of Coney Island chowder (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=KslQMlpf9x1avp_N5eZKBQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). It was a nice rendition which I spiced up with a few drops of Tabasco, chocked with plenty of chopped clams. The two diners influenced my main meal as they ate, promoting me to order the special for Tuesday, Braised Pot Roast (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5rBWL7ivnIVl045iZl0MlA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). It came with a variety of fresh vegetables and mashed potatoes. Let's just say this was a Marty McFly meal as it brought me back to meals in the '60's and '70's. The meat was fork tender, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, and broccoli perfectly al dente. The mashed paired well with the old school pot roast gravy. I finished half while the other half, packed great for reheating (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ZsgY3G6YEiHlhZzB_YGJ1A&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), for dinner a couple nights later. Big thanks to Paul G. for making my lunch a smooth counter experience. I was in and out in less than an hour. Random observation, there are a lot of regulars here during lunch, especially locals who work in the area. The gentleman who sat next to me after a couple left was very familiar with the staff (asked about the family). You may get a feel from that TV sitcom "where everyone knows your name". I should stop in more often. After all, how long has it been here again?
I went into Tadich looking for Dover Sole - No luck.
I may have eaten there 40 years ago when I was in town on business 2-3x a year for BOFA. I ended up ordering Veal Parmesan with spaghetti & vegetables. While the veal was good, the menu should have read: "Veal with a Hint of Parmesan"! There were literally two wavy, thin strips of Parmesan on the veal! I looked around thinking I might be being Punked! In any event, I won't be going back!
Overall the historical aura of this place really resonates.
It is an OLD sf vibe and so much fun to talk to the servers/bartenders about the origins of the restaurant. If you are a seafood person, this is the place to go, not as friendly for vegetarians. The veggie pasta was relatively bland. The salads are hefty and hit the spot for a lunch.
Stopped in for dinner Monday night at the bar.
Food was very good. I started with a crab cake for my appetizer. Then I had the filet Mignon. I believe they grill it over a wood fueled fire. It had a great flavor and perfect char cooked medium rare. My niece had the calamari steak. She said it was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. I loved the atmosphere! It has a very charming old school San Francisco vibe. This is a true classic and treasure!
Oldest Restaurant in San Francisco.
A must if you are a local or just visiting. Their specialty is seafood, but they have a limited amount of other proteins for your enjoyment. Parking is the San Francisco usual bad, but they do have Valet that starts at around 5:00 PM. The clam chowder is great as well as any of their seafood selections. The servings are very large, so I feel you definitely get your moneys worth.
Great history - Good if traveling alone
Food was great. History was better. Felt so old fashioned and loved it. Waiters wear old style uniforms but are all professional and good at their job. Wine glasses are small and classic. Everything we ate was delicious. Definitely go here. Large bar for seating if you’re alone.
Go with a Classic
The oldest restaurant in San Francisco is always one of my favorite places. We last visited for dinner on my Birthday celebration. If you're lucky, you might get to be seated in one of their private booths. The food is always delish as well as the cocktails. My Martini was perfection and my lobster thermidor was great. I love the uniforms that are worn by the staff and the formality of yester-year. Dining at Tadich Grill brings me to a happy place. I highly recommend it, if you have not been there.
Great Cioppino and Old School NYC Ambiance
A long wooden bar and mature, experienced waiters contribute to the old-school NYC ambiance, a welcome escape from "Hi, my name is X, my pronouns are Y and I'll be serving you today." The Cioppino is not only the best I've ever had; the only seafood soup of any kind that I remember being this good was a Bouillabaisse I had in New Orleans over 30 years ago. A simple dinner for 1 person topped $100 with tip but that isn't strictly their fault, but the area they are in and the economy in recent years. For those who like seafood Tadich is one of the "don't miss" spots in San Francisco.
Less than ned
Veggies, main and sides were overcooked. Waiters have attitude. Fish has a funky smell. Waitor suggested an extra plate but never brought it. This place is just cruising from its history. Nothing special about it when it comes to food. There are other similar ambience restaurants that serve better food. I say just head in for a cheap drink and head out. No need to dine there.
Tadish grill: Not worth the money
This restaurant is a San Francisco institution; however, it was NOT worth the cost of the means we ate. The general dining area around the bar was noisy. we had a "room" for our party of six, which was more quiet. The entrees we ordered were not satisfying: the sea bass was bland, the liver was over cooked, and the only entre which was finished was the prawns. Definitely go somewhere else: Chicago, New York, or Naples, Fla
Nice place for a drink
It’s a great place to have drinks. I enjoyed the nice and long wood counter with the traditional style ambience. Many employees have worked there for a long time. The Cioppino I ordered was average. Their New York Steak meal was good. The service was average from the experience of our waiter.
The Real San Francisco Treat
San Francisco is currently going through some major struggles. Many of the places that used to make this city an absolute delight are no longer around. So the fact that this restaurant has stood the test of time is amazing and appreciated. It was crowded the day we arrived so we decided to sit at the bar. I had the Cioppino and Mushroom Rice dish. It was absolutely delish. The service was good but the food was great.
Excellent
I cannot stop to praise the ambience, quality of food and service here. We had calamari, salad and loads of seafood. Just excellent!
Tadich Grill
Tadich Grill is a timeless tradition who has not loosen the reigns to high quality dining! The selection is vast and everything listed is a good option. On this particular occassion, the Friday night special was the Lamb Shank and it proved to be as special as advertised. The meat was so tender that it slid off the bone and there proved to be no gamey residual, just delicious, flavorful and sizeable! The ravioli with meat sauce was also quite tasteful with generous amounts of Meat in the meat sauce and YES, the ravioli is filled with meat as well! The portions are incredibly large and the service is impeccable! The waitress gave some wonderful recommendations and checked on patrons quite often without being disruptive. The most amazing attribute to this restaurant is that they do not rely on the novelty of being California's oldest restaurant to bring in customers but rather they keep their focus on the quality of food which is very high. However, the character of the restaurant is more than enough to keep patrons coming back for more. A giant hardwood bar where customers can dine and drink is reminiscent of a time gone by. Tadich Grill is an excellent restaurant which deserves multiple visit! Great food, large selection, fantastic service and a nostalgic setting.
A classic that continues to shine
Great restaurant in town. It is classic in style and preserves the interior design of those restaurants of yesteryear. With its cozy booths and wood walls. The service is also traditional. It is not cheap. Its menu has classics from the city's cuisine. Prepared and well presented

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
