The Pearl Nantucket Reviews
Young hip restaurant
Food was good not great . We sat inside and we were very close to the next table . The waitress brought lots of complimentary things to them but nothing to us which was very strange. We liked the lobster Rangoon and the drinks but the rest was mediocre and expensive.
When we finally got our food, after having asked for it
When we finally got our food, after having asked for it twice, it was fine. Just fine. The "service" was sub-par at its best. After having been brought to our seats at the bar, then told they were reserved, we were walked back outside to sidewalk and into adjacent restaurant's (boarding house) dark & dank -empty- bar (with music blaring), we asked if an outside sidewalk table was available. Yes but we needed to eat & leave by 7:15. It was 6:15. We said yes because we knew (ASSUMED) that was possible. Though there were 3 2-seat tables available, she put at a table almost on top of a table of 6...3 very loud & ill behaved children. And that's where we remained, waiting a while for "server" to ask us for drink order, then finally take our dinner order (never mentioned the specials; I had to ask) and then we waited & waited (meantime 7:15 came & went) for our very small servings of boring (& room temp) cod & even smaller ("share plate"?!?) of crudo. And because the plates most likely sat in kitchen & wee ignored by pit "server" the fish was not hot and the crudo was not cold. Never again Pearl, never again
The Pearl, Nantucket. A True Island Gem
We had dinner at The Pearl last week and it was absolutely fantastic. We started with cocktails at the bar, which were spot-onโbalanced, flavorful, and really well made. The vibe was great, and the staff made us feel welcome right away. Once we moved to our table, the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and professional without being over the top. It felt like they genuinely cared that we were having a great experience. I had the Asian Wok-Fried Lobster, and honestly, it was one of the best meals Iโve had in a long time. The flavors were incredible, and the lobster was cooked perfectly. Every dish that came out looked beautiful and tasted just as good. The Pearl really impressed usโfrom drinks to dessert, everything was on point. Weโre already looking forward to going back.
Beautiful restaurant.
Myself and a couple of girlfriends visited Nantucket and chose The Pearl after being referred by a local. They have a creative and delicious menu! The decor is amazing and staff are incredible! I will definitely be back!

Ouch, I get Tapas, but extra small Tapas , Pork dumplings and pigs in blanket..... between the $ of the dishes and amount of food on the plate, after lunch here, I wanted to get a steak somewhere, great atmosphere and friendly staff.
Beautiful Set Up
The bar is cool and the bartender who served us could not have been friendlier. The decor was awesome and we both had burger's which were delicious. I would have another Woodford at that bar anytime.
Female bartender was a bit dry, not very engaging.
Lovely atmosphere, interesting cocktails and menu. Had the lobster dish and it was very tough, didn't eat much of it. The noodles it came on were flavorful. Crispy tuna app was great and my husband really enjoyed his chicken entree. Overall it was ok.
The parking was a bit sketchy.
It is just street parking. Everyone must have been in town because we had trouble finding a spot. It is located in the center of town so in a house converted into a restaurant. I started out with Tuna Taraki which was five slices of fresh tuna on a bed of curry topped with a sliced plum. It was delicious. As an entree I had the swordfish that was seared. It was a large portion that filled me right up. The waiter was marginal. We asked if he had after dinner port be the glass. A simple request. He disappeared for 15 minutes while he checked. This required a yes or no answer from the kitchen. As it turns out, they did not have it. The restaurant had about twenty table with a separate bar area. The dining room was dimly lit. I would return whenever I am on the island. It is a top-notch restaurant.
Fresh and innovative delicious meal
Really delicious and very fresh food Lots if interesting vegetables and interesting ingredients- loved the tomatoe salad, the corn salad abd house salad. Very generous portions. Had a delicious bronzini for my main. Hope to return.
Not the Same
We used to love The Pearl, but it is not what it used to be. While the decor is really pretty and the booths are lovely, and comfy, the food is nothing like it was. Donโt waste your money, too many other better restaurants on island to enjoy!

My mom and I walked into the bar downstairs and were physically pushed out of the bar by a staff member because it was allegedly private, although there was no signs or bouncer, indicating such I would never ever go to this restaurant again in my life.

I was surprised I found this chefs name on the Internet at all. He is one of those non credentialed chefs from the west coast who obviously tricked the owners into hiring him. I want the owners to realize when he interviews employees he basically ask questions like on the level of "what is your favorite color". This guy is not a chef of any ability. I know I was just interviewed by him. Such a ridiculous conversation it truly was.
What a disappointment, truly one of the worst dining
What a disappointment, truly one of the worst dining experiences in our recent memory (10 years, 20?, east coast, west coast, NYC). We'd been wanting to try for several years, we'd heard good things from people we trust. Thus, it is not an understatement that we were absolutely shocked by the overly salted dishes (every one of the 5 we ordered!) and the heavy-handed preparation of each of them. Instead of fine nuances of flavors, it seemed as if the kitchen chose to pour thick Hoi San and soy sauce over each dish. Instead of herbs as described in the menu (say, for example, basil), three of our dishes had large amounts of cilantro dumped on top (with no mention of any substitutions by the server). While I ordered medium rare (and stressed to err toward rare) for the beef dish, it came as medium so I sent it back and did not request another. The ambiance I would describe as "let's party and eat some food!". The loud and social bar crowd seemed quite happy, and some of the (far younger than me) patrons seemed much happier than us (and tipsier) as we departed. The noise level was unacceptable, possibly the noisiest I've ever experienced (unacceptable because some curtains or fabrics could help). We had to repeat ourselves while talking to our server; she couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear her (or each other). There were smaller problems as well. We ordered the lobster rangoon, but the server informed us that they "always run out" for late seatings (which begs the question, why not always make more?). When asked "how is everything?", we informed the server that every dish was overly salty (so salty as to be unenjoyable and close to bitterly inedible)... and would she please let the chef know. She did not report back, nor apologize, and instead chose to mostly ignore us for the rest of our very uncomfortable time at their establishment. We chose to pay the bill and leave before our dessert came out. Although we knew that the meal would be pricey, this restaurant does not deserve to charge even half. While the overly sweet cocktail we ordered was pleasant and pretty, certainly not stand-out enough to order another. I'm sorry I hadn't read the reviews that its ownership had changed hands recently. Diners beware! My recommendation is you dine elsewhere, there are so many other amazing choices in Nantucket, especially at this price-point.
Kevin is such a lovely bartender! I had such a lovely time.
The decor is so much better than it was. More beautiful, friendly patrons and staff. I am definitely coming back often...
There are better restaurants on the island.
The servers were lovely. Cocktails were good. The food was ham-handedly prepared, overly salty. All the freshness was cooked out of it. Expensive doesnโt always mean good. Would not recommend. There are better restaurants on the island.
Beautiful and busy.
The Pearl is a very popular Asia seafood fusion restaurant. The Tokyo tots were truly unique. Small potato stacks with a caviar garnish. Also had the lobster lomein which was flavorful. Service was prompt and professional. Would definitely recommend for a unique dining experience in the town of Nantucket.
We've been annual visitors to The Pearl for 8 years, and
We've been annual visitors to The Pearl for 8 years, and were thrilled to see it reopen with much of the same menu as the prior management. Sadly, although the words are the same, the taste is not. But even putting aside the prior excellence, there is not dish we tried that we would recommend. Many offerings tasted like a bottle of over-the-counter soy sauce was dumped on it, drowning out any other flavors, and the overwhelming texture was soggy and mushy. Dinner for two, just over $350 (which was expected). Here's what we got: Crab Rangoon: Nothing remarkable, and most neighborhood Chinese restaurants would win in a taste test. Soggy and flat. Presentation was poor. Tokyo Tots: Basically bread pudding in a soy sauce soup. Mushy. Why order caviar if you can't taste it? Aren't "tots" supposed to be crisp? Dumplings: Again, the sauce over-powered any other flavor profiles. Why order lobster if you can't taste it? 60 Second Steak & Eggs: Bread pudding, again. Brioche was soggy and mushy. Sauce was too tart. Could not taste any of the other flavors. Wok Fried Lobster: We've been enjoying this dish for years. Even putting aside the former excellence, it was just "good". Halibut: This seemed to be the only dish we ordered that had a flavor profile you could actually taste, but the execution failed. The fish sat in the middle of a plate with a variety of flavors surrounding it, so I had to build my own taste experience on my fork. Some mouthfuls were awful (too much of this, not enough of that) and after confusion and effort, I put together some pretty good forkfulls. But rooting thru the greens, the spices, the herbs, veggies, etc. to try and recreate the good mouthful was beyond my skill set (that's why I eat out). The new decor is nice, drinks were excellent, the service was excellent, but the food was an expensive and major disappointment.
The lobster pasta is to die for.
The service was excellent and I had such a positive experience last night. Also the new interior looks amazing !!! So cute
I don't usually provide on line reviews but I'm compelled
I don't usually provide on line reviews but I'm compelled to respond to the recent one star reviews of this Nantucket legend under new management. We were a party of eight last night and had an excellent experience. The service was perfect from the host who seated us immediately, to the server who was honest in his assessments of the entrees and very attentive, to the sommelier who provided an excellent recommendation of an obscure Swiss wine. Everything that was supposed to be hot was very hot and everything that was supposed to be cold was cold. We were neither rushed nor bored. The flavors were strong but not overbearing. Are there better values to be had? Perhaps. But the new Pearl is most certainly a superior experience to Dune, or most of its high priced neighbors. We'll definitely be bACK.
Best food on island so far
The restaurant was very pretty and had a clean look. The food presentation was beautiful and all food was very flavorful. The rice and some other dishes were very salty, but flavor was good and no complaints
This is a great place! It's bright and beautifully
This is a great place! It's bright and beautifully decorated. The staff is incredibly friendly. Service is not rushed. The food is excellent. We ordered the passion fruit martini...YUM! The oysters are outstanding. Definitely try them with the homemade curry sauce they provide in a dropper. I'm not a curry person but this sauce is incredible. We also ordered the yellowfin tuna martini and the Wagyu tartare. Everything was outstanding but the wagyu tartare is the absolute best. We also ordered wine by the glass and it was a good pour and delicious. It is a little pricey but worth every penny. I look forward to going again. Thank you to everyone at The Pearl.
Ate at The Pearl this past weekend, and was so dissatisfied
Ate at The Pearl this past weekend, and was so dissatisfied with the service and the food. The place is beautiful, light, and elegant. We ordered the dumplings which were fabulous, an order of the fried rice which was mushy and disgusting to the palate, now onto their famous lobster entree... sorry to say, it was ok, not great. For $85, it should have been beyond delicious, very disappointed, and will never go back. The one star is for the ambience, and the dumplings.
Horrible.
Worst meal in 7 years living on Nantucket. Pepper flakes and salt is not cooking. Everything had some pepper spice flakes all over it. Scallop dumplings have no scallop in them. Idk what is in there, I sent them back. The chicken dish was so salty that it was inedible to the 4 of us. The oysters were ruined with some hot sauce. How do ruin local Nantucket oysters? The $85 lobster lo mein is a joke. Some lo mien with soy sauce and a tiny lobster sitting on top. You have to deal with the shell. We sent it back and asked them to at least take it out of the shell. And the waiter had an attitude like this place was something special. We graciously left a tip but even with the chicken and no scallop dumplings taken off it was still $400+. Don't bother going there.
Nope. Not yet. Maybe. But not yet. Server should also stop
Nope. Not yet. Maybe. But not yet. Server should also stop touching his hair as he moves between tables. Also a 4oz pour of wine is the normal pour?Comical.
