Michel's at the Colony Surf Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year
We celebrated our anniversary here, and it had the most
We celebrated our anniversary here, and it had the most beautiful views of the ocean. The service was a little slow, but everyone was nice. Conner was very helpful and went above and beyond to provide us with a good experience. The food was delicious, but the portions were a tab bit too small. Overall, this is a wonderful place to celebrate life's blessings.
5 star all the way.
2nd time coming here but this time we came w/our kids. Everything Id expect when I'm paying top dollar was provided and delivered. My kids enjoyed their 1st time dining experience here. Ambiance is always nice and food is so delicious!
I had high hopes for this place, but was left disappointed.
Service was friendly, and ambience was very nice. My grandmother was being difficult for the start, but the servers made it a point to at least fake a smile when they came to our table. We were seated under an AC vent and with my sweater I was still cold. I ordered the ciopinno to warm me up. The broth was lukewarm. The taste was just okay. At the end of my meal, I ordered a hot water and it never came to me. This place is pricey, and I had high expectations and was left disappointed. I e eaten at many other restaurants with this price range and was extremely pleased with my experience. Not here. I'm happy to say I came here, but I don't think I have a reason to come back.
Best Classy Romantic Restaurant in Honolulu
Michel’s is our favorite Honolulu restaurant. Romantic, classy, and excellent food and service every time. It’s right on the beach with open views to the sand and water right next to you. Top notch service, with many tableside preparations, like the tasty flamed desserts! Great atmosphere, excellent food. Perfect for a special occasion! We never miss it when in Honolulu! Highly recomend!
This place was phenomenal.
The decor and the hotel may be dated but that adds to the charm of the long standing restaurant. Besides, the view, food and service more than make up for it. We did the 5 course meal with the premium wine pairing and it was absolutely worth it. Every dish and wine pairing went together perfectly. But what really took the experience over the top was the staff. Stuart/Stewart was our server and he went above and beyond. Top level service from someone who loved what he did and was a genuine expert in wine and food. I wouldn't come back to Oahu without visiting here and without guaranteeing we'd have Stuart/Stewart as our server.
I love to come here with special occasion It was our
I love to come here with special occasion It was our anniversary dinner. Very professional server and nice ocean view restaurant. My beef Rossini was soooo delicious!! Meat was tender, large Foie gras with delicious souse. Different style escargot was good, too. We enjoyed beautiful sunset, too I recommend No1 service and food restaurant in Hawai'i
My husband and I had a great dinner here for our
My husband and I had a great dinner here for our anniversary. We enjoyed the table side service from our amazing waiter, Psy, who made our appetizer and desserts in front of us. The view was beautiful, we saw more beach goers than I was expecting, but didn't ruin the experience for us.
Hope to see better training of new servers.
Very rude to have someone in the middle of dinner yank the champagne glass out of my hand telling us it is hers and she is taking it back. Well that's interesting when spending what we did for all we ordered to include champagne. This was very abrupt in the setting of a celebration. The staff excused it as she was new. Well they need to screen or train better than to make excuses for being so rude to their dining guests. This server wasn't even taking care of our table and came from nowhere during dinner. Very disappointed!
This is my wife's favorite restaurant but last nights meal
This is my wife's favorite restaurant but last nights meal was not the best. The service was impeccable but the filet mignon was not it was the wife only took one night of hers and left the rest. I ate all of mines even though it wasn't any better. To add insult to injury the left rear bumper of my car was damaged while in there valet
This was the worst food we had during our trip, sorry to
This was the worst food we had during our trip, sorry to say. The only culinary bright spots were the Cesar salad, we all gave that a 5 out of 5, and the escargot which was not bad. We ordered a French onion soup that was meh and the lobster bisque which was seriously gross. My wife had Cioppino (so so bland), our daughter ordered NY steak (decent), and I had Beef Wellington which was like everything else, under seasoned and lackluster. The roll they served at dinner tasted like it was United Airline's day old. The views and the service were 5 out of 5. I can't justify the price with such low quality food. They need to hit refresh on their menu or preparation. It seems like a restaurant that is all sizzle and no steak, if you get my drift.
Bad experience with front desk.
I was expecting a call-back from front desk (Valerie) and unfortunately took her about five or six days to get back to me. Has anyone else had this experience?
Over rated restaurant.
I am French and I wanted to have a taste of French food in Waikiki. I must admit I was disappointed. On the plus side, the atmosphere is serene and the tables are spaced enough to allow for a quiet (romantic) dinner. The decor is old fashioned, the music uninteresting. Our server was kind, smiling, helpful, professional. He helped us choose very good wines (a Viognier for me, Malbec for my husband). The food is fresh, tasty, however, nothing remarkable, certainly not worth $72 for a duck à l’orange. We shared a good platter of seafood for the appetizer. There was only one oyster! How can you share that? For entree, I had steamed fish (all right) and my husband the duck (OK). We skipped dessert. Overall, good, not worth the hefty price.
Good but needs a refresh
Our family really wanted to like this place. But it is a bit tired and needs a refresh. The good: AMAZING table side caesar salad and nice old school French waiter service. The not so good: pretty horrible, bitter lobster bisque, we never got a wine bottle list, the food overall is good but not great. Tired decor inside. Glad we went but likely won't go back unless they do a refresh.
Without sunset, enjoyed food and good service.
I was considering a restaurant for my husband's birthday dinner on our first visit to Hawaii and decided on this restaurant, which I had seen in guidebooks. Unfortunately, it was cloudy that day and we didn't get to see the sunset, but we were one table behind the window at 5.15 p.m. reservation. The table by the window was empty so just in case I asked and they told us "You made the reservation a month ago, but other people have made reservations way in advance, like last May". We ordered the famous lobster bisque soup, with the finishing touches in front of you. The taste was excellent. We had salads and lobster/steak for the main course. Both were delicious. My husband is not much of a drinker, so we had a toast prosecco (any bubbles) and I had a glass of cabernet sauvignon alone, but this red wine had a musty smell. The wine by the glass was not that expensive compaire to meals, so I thought the quality was low or there was a quality control problem. All staff were friendly and professional.
A French restaurant stuck in the 1970’s
Extremely outdated and mediocre restaurant. The views were quite nice, the service was great extremely friendly and mostly attentive. Unfortunately, this cannot make up for the outdated food on the menu. The lobster bisque lacked any depth of flavour. The puff pastry on the onion soup was undercooked and mushy. The steak I had as a main course was good quality meat, although, the sides were bland. I would recommend this venue for the view and maybe a cocktail, don’t bother having dinner there.
Good food, beautiful view, but terrible services
My friend bought me and my husband dinner vouchers for Michel’s special dinner course for my birthday. I have heard about this upscale restaurant, but never tried before. We were looking forward having a great birthday dinner that night. We arrived and seated first in the restaurant as soon as they opened their door that night at 5:00 pm. It was very impressive with menu on the table with my name printed and a senior Asian male waiter was very nicely welcoming us. The view was amazing and nice atmosphere by the ocean front table. We were about to have a wonderful night there and excited. We received one of the appetizers, seafood plate, but it was all 2 pieces each for 3 of us. It was odiously for 2 people’s portion. I asked the same waiter about it and he was irritated. He said, “I ordered kitchen for 3. So it is for 3 people!” (See the photos attached.) it was quite unconformable to share 2 pieces among 3 of us. Even the escargot plate was the same one for the couples eating on the other tables. I asked for some more bread and his attitude changed, he didn’t even answer to that and threw the additional bread in our table later without saying anything. Then we waited about 40 min. Before next salads come. Before salads arrived, I went to talk to the waiter on the way to the bathroom about next food. Because we have a magic show reservation from 7:30 pm in Waikiki and we want to leave by hopefully around 7:00 pm. He was angry at this point and said, “ok, I will ask kitchen to bring out all the food together!” He kept avoiding to serve our table and talking and joking with all the other table around us. We still had salad, soup, main dish and desserts to be served and time was getting close to 7:00 pm. The waiter said the kitchen was backed up, but other tables around us who arrived much later than us having soups and another was already eating desserts at that time. I told hunt that and he cut me off madly. Then a non uniform male came to serve us without no introduction. Later, the waiter proudly told us that their GM was one serving us. But the service was not really expedited after and we ended up leaving almost 7:30 pm, we were late to the show. On top of all the disappointments, we found that my friends’s credit card was charged over $440 just for the drinks in error because all the food were paid in advance with meal vouchers including tax & tips. I had to call them to fix it after we left. I have never written any reviews before, but I’m writing this constructive criticism review, hoping that it helps them improving their services in the future. Michel’s is a nice restaurant with awesome views, nice atmosphere and good food. We really liked the table side performances. I was just so disappointed that the waiter’s service totally ruined my birthday dinner with my important people. GM could introduced himself and apologized for delay of food or just explain the situations. Over all, I want to express that we were very disappointed and were probably not coming back or recommend anyone Michel’s.
An epic fail. Hours of waiting interspersed with mediocre food at vast expense.
Went here with friends for New Year’s Eve dinner. Seated as reserved at 8:15pm at an excellent table. Staff is courteous and friendly. The menu is an amuse bouche and then four courses with a choice between two items for each of the courses for $195/person. Girlfriend and I choose one of each so that we taste everything. Amuse bouche, piece of cucumber with a little ahi poke on top. Ok, nothing special. Wait for what seems like an hour and actually was about an hour, then Oysters Rockefeller and duck confit, about a tablespoon. Duck ok, oysters, not. Endive salad and Carpaccio beef follow many, many minutes later. Main course, (another hour or so goes by) Lobster Thermidor and a steak Rossini. Lobster, not so great. More time, mediocre chocolate blob and fruit jello in wine glass. All this for over $400!!! Finally out the door around 10:50pm! Painful evening! Never again, believe me you can do better!
Subpar food, great service and atmosphere
My wife and I came to Honolulu for a few days and after looking at the menus of Azure and House Without A Key, we decided on Michel’s based on a couple of food offerings that we have wanted to try (beef Wellington and the lobster and steak). Arriving was easy, street parking at 8pm was quite full but there is complimentary valet service which we took advantage of. The initial greeting was friendly, however for the price point and advertising we expected more professionalism. We noticed there is not much for waiting areas and when we were asked to wait, we had to stand for a few minutes. We were seated beachside and at this point the sun had gone down but the views of the city lights and the moons reflection off the water were breathtaking. We had a sleeping seal beside the enormous opened window the entire dinner who was fun to watch dream, though it did frequently burp and the fishy smell was not pleasant. Decor is dated but well kept. The chairs were reasonably comfortable and I could see most folks would have a reasonably comfortable time, as tables and chairs could be moved to accommodate if needed. There were a good deal of stairs from the valet tot he restaurant so keep that in mind if you’re looking for accessible friendly. Our server was very kind. He spoke quietly which made it difficult to hear over the loud laughter and conversation from nearby tables. We didn’t expect the volume of conversation to be this high given the dress code and advertising of fine dining, it felt more like a party restaurant while we were there. Our server did tableside lobster bisque which is absolutely delicious. It’s a smooth puréed soup with freshly fried lobster sprinkled atop. We were allowed to split one appetizer but if I went back I would get an entire bowl to myself. The mains were incredibly forgettable. I had the Wellington which has a reasonably good puff pastry shell, nicely browned but uneven in thickness and therefore less than done in some areas. There was also no mushroom duxelles that we could observe which left a lot to be desired in terms of flavour. The potato mash was not as smooth as I’d expected from a fine dining establishment, I would have expected it to be filtered over a drum sieve a few times to be smooth as butter but instead it was over boiled riced potatoes. The dish was entirely underseasoned. The berry sauce on the side of the Wellington was good, deep in complex flavours. My wife had the surf and turf with a lobster tail smaller than the ones we can get in a landlocked Canadian province. It was slightly overcooked. The finish on her filet was on point, but again the seasoning was lacklustre. The food was very disappointing. When we prompted our server about the lack of seasoning he offered that many guests complained about the abundance of salt and implied that they had pulled back on the seasoning punches since then. We did not like this excuse and feel that patrons should come with their own dietary needs in mind; if you need less salt, ask. Otherwise assume things are well seasoned. The bananas foster were a tasty close to our night, again, lacking in salt. The caramel sauce should have had a pinch of salt to balance out the sweetness. The bananas were ripe, and the tableside cook, again, was fun. Frankly, the dish was quite simple and a sprig of mint and a bit more acid would have done wonders to take this to the next level. Overall, for the price point, I absolutely would demand better from the food. The service and the ambiance were good. Food: 2/5 (price point considered) Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5
Outstanding.
Our family enjoyed an absolutely delightful Thanksgiving dinner at Michel’s. We reserved and were seated at a beachside table. The waitstaff was extremely attentive, yet personable. Not at all pretentious. Cannot wait to return. Wonderful experience.
It was a wonderful time.
We visited as a couple, including myself and a couple of friends. The course, sparkling wine, and wine came to about $1,000. The course and service were well worth the price. It has nothing to do with the service or the taste, but how much is it in Japanese yen these days? I gave up thinking about it.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
