Glen Ellen Star Reviews from The Last Year
Always wanted to try this place.
Everything we had was farm to table fresh and delicious. Service and ambience was good too. Truthfully, I think it's a bit overpriced though. $20 for a small plate of carrots or brussel sprouts...really?

Came for our anniversary dinner and couldn't have been more pleased. Service was impeccable. They even gave us a cute anniversary card and complimentary rose' to start us off. As for the food we ordered the brussel sprouts, tomato cream pie pizza and the wagyu steak. The brussel sprouts were tasty but felt a little undercooked. They did have a generous amount of pancetta though. The pizza was absolutely delicious and the crust was perfect. Loved that the crust was firm, but not overly chewy, even after cooling down. The steak was tender and so flavorful that it could have been eaten on its own. However, I still appreciated the sauce that they added. Highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.
Great food but the location of and line for the bathroom
Great food but the location of and line for the bathroom gives me anxiety, mainly for the staff. It was a charming place in a charming area in general. There was an incredibly loud table next to us that I would've loved to be told to quiet down but I know that's not necessarily something a restaurant can do. I really enjoyed the bread (despite not liking olives) and butter, pasta, and branzino. The chicken had a good crispy chicken but was a bit dry in the center as chicken breast tends to be. Didn't love the carrots because they were pickled but that's personal preference. The olive oil cake was delicious and I liked the crisp edges. Would've liked more strawberries than rhubarb.
Outstanding quality and service! Enjoyed the fish, lamb and
Outstanding quality and service! Enjoyed the fish, lamb and chicken dishes with a terrific pizza and salad starter. The Nebbiolo suggestion for pairing was spot on. We finished with the Olive oil cake with strawberry and rhubarb dessert! A must stop!
The food is always interesting and well prepared.
Service is attentive and friendly. Ambiance is okay but it's a small space that uses every square inch that they can so there's only so much that they can do. Beware of the $35 corkage fee which is the highest I've seen for a neighborhood restaurant in the valley. They do have free corkage on Wednesday (locals) nights. Our one bad experience was when we booked a 7pm reservation, arrived on time and had to wait 30+ minutes while 3 other parties of 4 were seated, because the manager was waiting for a 2 top to open!! Hello? Why couldn't one of the 4 party groups wait instead? To add to it, after complaining we were seated at a 4 top. the waitress plopped 2 glasses of bubbly in front of us and when we asked why she said that the manager told her that we were complaining about having to wait. No sugar coating their annoyance that we'd complained about the long wait time! Obviously the restaurant's success makes the staff feel that diners should be happy they even get to eat there.
OMG!! We visited GES a couple years ago and returned
OMG!! We visited GES a couple years ago and returned tonight! What an absolute delight!! We booked the chefs table bar seating and watched the magic unfold before our eyes! This place is top notch. 5 stars! Amazing service, food and ambiance. The "Wednesday night neighborhood special" delighted my husband with a two course, clam appetizer and grilled pork chop. I feasted on a half chicken that can't be beat. The bread, toasted carrots, ALL delivered tenfold! If you're in the Sonoma area, this is a must-dine treasure. Book in advance. The place opens and fills-up at 5 pm!! Go!! PS Julie W (best wait staff) Diego is the talented chef!!
My son's favorite spot to dine in the Napa Valley area.
Pros- the food, everything is delicious! The atmosphere- open kitchen (highly recommend sitting at the counter!), the staff- everyone is awesome! I went over my Napa Valley restaurant list with a few of the cooks and chef, they gave me a few new spots to try! Cons- parking can be tight. The first time we came, we were at the hotel around the corner (kinda), second time I had to drive far (it's that tasty! And yes, kid is spoiled!) and was lucky enough to get a spot in the lot, but it's not big and there are two great places to dine (here and Fig Cafe), so something to be aware of. The ice cream, while it's delicious, it's expensive for the amount! And the flavors change, also something to keep in mind!
Headed for dinner here after wine tasting in the area.
We were greeted by the hostess with warmth and seated quickly. The food was pretty wonderful I have to say! The Brussels sprouts with the brown sugar marmalade and the cauliflower were exceptionally delicious and full of flavor. Hard to pick a favorite between the two but I have to say the cauliflower sizzling in its own cast iron pan was a particular revelation. We continued our meal with an order of their sourdough with butter and olive oil which, though tasty, didn't stand out in my mind as much as folks have lead me to believe. The tomato cream pie on the other hand, well that was pretty sublime! It sounds like nothing special, but it is truly remarkable and tasty with a perfect crust. There was a rabbit pot pie on the menu that night which, if available on the menu when you dine here, I cannot recommend enough-it was one of our favorite dishes of the night for sure. My only real disappointment was the wood fired baby artichokes with Rancho Gordo beans. The beans were not cooked through and almost inedible as a result. Finally, for dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake with garam masala ganache. The combination helped to cut the richness of the chocolate cake overall which was a lovely surprise. The coffee was solid to boot which is actually saying something because I feel like this is often an afterthought at many restaurants. Easily made a reservation online through Resy, service was good, not necessarily exceptional.
Went for a birthday dinner.
Really disappointed. Minimal menu, not impressed. My brick chicken was over cooked with pea greens over tasteless couscous.

We were excited to try this cute restaurant with a wonderful hostess at the podium to greet us. We actually arrived earlier than our reservation time and luckily were able to get seated out side where they turned on the propane heaters. Staff were pleasant and very busy busting empty plates and delivering food in and out of the door next to us. The loaf of baked bread was good as was the roasted head of cauliflower but neither of them wowed me. Hubby had the lamb ragu pasta. I tried a bite. I actually liked my pea shoot pesto over rigatoni better but again neither were memorable. And the lamb was not that flavorful. They were both decorated with pretty nasturtiums. The dessert was our biggest disappointment. It was a flourless cake but showed up as a blob of chocolate pudding with whipped cream on top. It really didn't taste that great. The bathroom is in the next building where there. Is bar dining and the dish washer is. The space is very crowded. The unisex single bathroom has funny signs. .
I'd visit again
The Star has a very creative menu and the two dishes we tasted were unique and VERY GOOD. The wine list is small, mostly local wines, but the ones we tasted were wonderful. The staff is friendly and helpful. We happened to get there on a night when there was a major rain storm but were seated at the time we had reserved. I recommend without qualification.
Deservedly popular
We made reservations at the suggestion of our friends in Glen Ellen, relatively last minute, which meant an early dinner for us. As a result, we had one of the dining rooms pretty much to ourselves for the first 45 minutes, which wasn't all bad. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Actually, we over-ordered, since so many things looked good and we were expecting smaller portions. No "elf food" here! The bread, btw, is a must order. The service was good, even as the restaurant filled up. This was a weekday evening and by the time we left the place was completely full. Deservedly so.
Great meal
We enjoyed our meal. Starters of the sourdough bread service and a chicory salad were both really well done. Always skeptical about a bread as a menu item…not here though. It was great. I ate duck breast special and wife had rigatoni with mushrooms. Again, both well composed and outstanding. Dessert was apple cake. Friendly and attentive service. Whole experience was excellent. Would return.
An excellent restaurant
Just perfect. We ordered all vegetarian food including the wood roasted vegetables, sourdough bread, pizzas (tomato cream pie, white sauce with squash), pasta and some desserts. One of the best meal we have had in a while where every dish was worth it. This place is well worth the 30-40min drive from Napa Valley.
Left feeling indifferent
I did mention on our reservation that it was my birthday, and the hostess wished me a happy birthday when we checked in. I don’t usually respond to special requests, but Glenn Ellen is new to us and we were excited about dining at a Michelin star restaurant. Our server seemed cooly polite and answered our questions about the selections on the menu that we inquired about. We each had a glass of wine, an appetizer and shared a pizza and a main dish. Together we finished our main dish with lots of pizza left over. We were considering some dessert, but we did not know if there actually was a dessert menu, and by that point, I had become tired of asking the waiter questions because he was professionally indifferent and hadn’t even offered to discuss the menu. It felt like he would rather be elsewhere in the restaurant, or in a hurry to get away from us to do something else. There was a lack of engagement. it would’ve been nice to have dessert. The food was very good, but not great or excellent and we were never even thanked for dining by the waiter. A different staff member left the bill, and our waiter returned for our signature without a word as he glanced around. We just pretty much left. The menu is small and that’s perfect for dinner, but I expected some details about the menu items explained…the hostess was nice
Great restaurant in a cute town
I loved this place and was sad we couldn't go back while we were staying in Glen Ellen. It's a very popular restaurant in town and we were only able to squeeze in a last minute reservation for dessert and coffee with our busy schedule. But we heard so many great things about the Glen Ellen Star from locals. It was a very short walk from the Glen Ellen cottages where we were staying. They do close early (to us) so keep that in mind.
Delicious
Terrific little spot in Glen Ellen, operated by very skilled chefs. Elevated food experience with great, local wine list. Cozy dining room. Seek it out. We will be back.
Just fabulous
What can we say about this fabulous restaurant. Food excellent, how can anyone make sprouts taste so good. The wagyu beef was melt in the mouth deliciousness. Everything was cooked to perfection . The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming which made us feel very special especially for our anniversary. Visiting from the UK and would recommend to anyone in the area to come and experience this little gem of a place and you will not be disappointed. Thank you guys
Amazing food and wine
We visited on a recent trip to Sonoma. The food was excellent. We had a Brussels sprout and bacon appetizer that was amazing. My husband had the rigatoni and I had the brick chicken. Both were so good. We sat at the chefs table and it was interesting to see everything prepared.
Don’t miss this gem
Deserves 10 stars! Absolutely fabulous and delightful evening sitting at the chef’s counter. Best food and presentation of our Sonoma trip.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
