Barley Swine Austin Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing establishment with an elegant tasting menu.
Absolutely to die for! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary. One of the best restaurants in Austin, hands down.
This was the best meal I had in Austin.
I loved the creative tasting menu and the friendly staff and the open kitchen concept. Enjoyed the rabbit cocktail. The menu changes so I'll just say I loved every course, especially the tuna, duck and ribeye! I also added on their shiitake dumplings with soft scrambled eggs which was good but I didn't think I really needed it. I usually don't like donuts but their donut was wild -- sweet and savory!!! LOVED it. Definitely a must in Austin!
Pricey as hell but worth every penny.
I've only been three times but I have never been disappointed in the food. Quality ingredients, creative dishes, did I mention delicious???? Save up your quarters for a year and get your butt on into Barley Swine. The 30 minutes at the coinstar turning in your change will be worth it.
We went here around the holidays at the end of year.
This concept is really exciting - letting someone define your entire dining experience was not something I was used to - but it was fun not to think about it. The service was stellar! Most of the entrees were tasty & exposed us to that "Bear chaos menu"style. In hindsight, I probably should have asked for a vegetarian menu - because I'm Not a huge fan of undercooked/uncooked meats. My husband absolutely loved the experience & every course. I did share most of my portions with him. This is certainly a great place for those with a mature palette, hanging w a group of friends & seeking an upscale experience. Every course was impressive / just not my personal favorite. There were a lot of courses but overall the amount of food left my husband & I both a bit hungry. With the prices they charge (our bill for 2 + tip was $400+ - although we did have a couple glasses of wine) - this is really geared towards a true foodie & I would recommend this place for those types of customers - the ones that savor these fancy dishes. The menu changes every few months or so. If you don't like what's on this menu - come back & check it out in the spring!
It's been a minute but this place is still great.
The service is on point, the food is outstanding. and we ended up on the patio with the perfect Spring weather. It's not cheap but if you're looking for a memorable date night/soecial occasion (or you're just plain rich), it's a great option.
After years of friends raving about this place, my husband
After years of friends raving about this place, my husband and I finally got to visit Barley Swine to celebrate our belated valentine's day dinner! We must say that this was by far the best tasting menu in Austin! Each dish was seasoned perfectly, and the ambiance of the restaurant was simply amazing. However, we were a bit disappointed with the amount of food that was served, as well as the service we received. There were multiple servers that came and went from our table, and none really bothered to attentively care for our drinks. Regardless, this was a fantastic choice for a romantic date night, and we can't wait to be back!
Fantastic service- Cohen and manager, Stephan were great.
Good drinks and a fairly good tasting menu- however about every other item on the 9 course tasting menu of which 2 courses were dessert features, fell flat. A few were too salty including the Muscovy duck and the "Wagu"- which was called Wagu but did not present or taste like Wagu, were disappointing. We tried 5 cocktails- which were generally pretty good - favorite of which was the one called uncut gems! Bill at 447.32 including 20% gratuity- leaves this venue with something to aspire to- especially when you compare the pricing to the execution. - they have it with the customer experience - BUT if you plan to charge nearly $500 for a table of two---You've got to step it up on the execution side. Does not even come close in comparison to other pre-fix menu experiences -
I've been to Barley Swine about once a year for the last 7
I've been to Barley Swine about once a year for the last 7 years. Every visit has been a lovely experience. Service is exceptional and the food and wine pairings are typically tasty and interesting. The atmosphere is very cozy and it's a great spot for a date or family dinner.
This place is one of a kind with its ambiance and culinary
This place is one of a kind with its ambiance and culinary precision. I ate here 1/28/24 and had the 9 course prefix menu. The price was $115 per person. On top of that I added the shiitake mushroom dumplings for $14, drank 3 macchiatos for around $16 in total, and took away 6 brown sugar chocolate chip cookies for another $14. After tip for 2 it was around $340 which is personally a large amount for me, but I regret in no capacity due to the courses being timed out perfectly and every single dish tasting delicious in its own unique way with clashing flavor profiles. Our waiter was super amazing and continually checked in (not too often and with no interruption), filled up our waters, and explained the dishes to me and my girlfriend. I would 100% recommend this establishment to anyone for a super special occasion or if you have the money, a fancy dinner with friends. I am 19 so I did not order any alcoholic drinks, but I must say they looked delicious and were presented well. I work in an upscale kitchen and I must say this place pleasantly surprised me! Thank you Barley Swine for a wonderful night out with my partner. (ps: my girlfriend is pregnant and cannot consume raw fish (or any due to mercury). The kitchen (with no knowledge before our arrival) accommodated her and subbed the fish being bluefin, yellowtail, and oyster for various vegetables and meats. She is also very picky and ate the entirety of all 9 courses and loved all of them (which is a miracle if you know her).
Probably the best food I have ever ate!! We did the tasting
Probably the best food I have ever ate!! We did the tasting menu!! We loved their yellowtail!!
Incredible service.
Staff was present and very helpful. My dietary restrictions often cause an issue but this establishment went above and beyond to provide incredible service nonetheless.
As good as it gets!
We wanted something special for our anniversary and weren't disappointed. This place has a tasting menu. We had 8 different small plates. Every one was incredible. A mixture of flavors, tastes and textures that complimented each other so well. I'm amazed at how someone can come up with these combinations. Emmy, our server was marvelous as were all the other staff. I did ask them to cook my piece of ribeye a bit more as I don't like beef that's not well done. They made it perfect. Two different fabulous desserts were masterpieces like the other small plates. Although not cheap, this was as good a meal as I've ever had. Sometimes it's worth paying more because in this case you got what you paid for.
Outstanding!
There are many great places to eat in Austin but this place has to be one of the absolute best! The quality of the food, service and ambience is worthy of any top restaurant and I don’t think it would be a stretch to say that this is Michelin star quality. If you ever visit Austin, please pay this place a visit - you will not be disappointed!
This bunch just cares...
From the moment we set foot in the door, you could just feel it – the love. It shows in the food, the presentation, their oral descriptions, how guests are received, handling custom requests, answering questions, getting you what you want, knocking your socks off with flavor combinations – these folks just care. And, as a result, we do to. That kind of dedication is so rare. We appreciate it. Specifics – hey, it was all good. I think the duck and the beef were most impressive this trip, and one of the opening beef courses had a roll with some interesting taste explosions – sour/savory ingredients in great proportions. Thank-you guys ! (And, thank-you Eric for that special touch – we won’t forget it !) C & J
“How to push your favorite home cooked recipe to the list of mundane ineptitudes … make a reservation here.”
7/27/2023 Barley Swine Title: "How to push your favorite home cooked recipe to the list of mundane ineptitudes … make a reservation here." OK, I have not the facility to strictly dissect the culinary minutia of what I am tasting here this evening, but, I can most certainly receive and describe my reaction to what I am tasting. The difficulty is in resisting over stepping the mark, thankfully, as this team over shoots my vision, my expectation, of the afternoon’s imbibement altogether. The obvious attention to detail boggles as one goes from course to course – presentation, yes, also, but primarily - palate sensation is fully engaged, over, and over, and over, again, with each course. A memory whisp of the Cordon Bleu academy prior to Domain envelopment, and the cross contaminated education (teacher to student practitioner, student to recipient, recipient to teacher, etc.) here far exceeds that ritual – no questions asked – yes – “We’ll try that too” – and we are never the loser – the tidbit always exhibits a broad new world of palate spectral sensation. Yes, “hit the spot”, vast understatement, and, but truly more. Of fourteen some odd bites, none a loser, but a few standouts – Zuchini/chevre starter, Chef’s salad, Black river caviar/duck fat brioche/hot sorghum with champagne, Yellowtail/hoja santa/corn relish/masa, Muscovy duck/sungolds/tatume squash, Foie Gras/peach chutney/tostado, and the peach doughnut with peach leaf ice cream. If pressed, I’d give the blue ribbon to the Black Caviar/duck fat brioche served with champagne. My gosh (insert preferred expletive), what a taste. The full list - 1 Zuchini, chevre *Favorite starter 2 Garden puff 3 Chef's salad 4 Bluefin tuna, tomato kosho, yellow watermelon 5 Black river caviar, duck fat brioche, hot sorghum (Supplement) *Favorite meal item 6 Yellowtail, hoja santa, corn relish, masa *A close 2nd/3rd 7 Shitake dumplings, soft scrambled egg (Supplement) 8 Muscovy duck, sungolds, tatume squash *best version of duck so far for us 9 Foie Gras, peach chutney, tostada (Supplement) *2nd favorite 10 Akaushi ribeye, kimchi, gochujang 11 Brown butter panna cotta, cantaloupe, pepper granita 12 Peach doughnut, peach leaf ice cream, rum (very nice) 13 Chocolate (simplification, name?) popsicle (not a menu item) 14 Chocolate peanut butter brittle cookies (special extra) Superb food, royal service, top notch mixologists, exceptional ambiance, over the top care and treatment – a very special place to eat.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
