So so so disappointed
So disappointing! Will not be rushing back. Food is so bland, any home cook could do better. Kilkeel crab starter did not taste of crab and mackerel was just cardboard bland! Mains- chicken very non descriptive and sides still trying to work out what they were??? Monkfish however tasty, but minus the curry sauce it tasted soapy. I tried to steel myself for a dessert, but my husband decided to try the ginger dessert. A mistake- bland and boring. I am sincerely disappointed to say, this restaurant is extremely poor and non reflective of the fabulous N Ireland cuisine. Honestly, I was so disappointed. Why pay these prices, when so much more on our doorstep in Belfast??
Be the first to ReplyFood & service great
This was our first time here, 5 girls for a special birthday. Food & service both excellent. We got the coldest place in the restaurant by fire exit in the conservatory & they don’t allow outside birthday cakes. Enjoyed the night though. Would prefer a bit more heat & not sit whole night with coats on
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Birthday Treat!
My partner and I came here for my Birthday meal. We loved every second of the experience. The drink selection was delicious, the decor was beautiful and the food was spot on! A special mention to our server, Zara, who was welcoming, knowledgeable on the Menu and a great conversation. From reccommending dishes to describing them, i couldnt believe it when she said she had only been there a matter of weeks. A real credit to your team! And hard to find a fault in the overall experience 👏
Be the first to ReplyNot NI’s best Sunday Lunch!
Perhaps like others we’d seen this place mentioned in the press recently as “the best Sunday lunch in Northern Ireland”. Well, I’m sorry to say that is very, very far from being true and I can only assume the chef at Ox who made this claim to The Times is a friend of the owners. First courses in the £40 set menu were underwhelming - my “scorched” cured mackerel with taco turned out to be 4 tiny pieces of fish plonked on top of soggy slices of cucumber in a sort of half cocked ceviche, with a side of a small crisp filled with mackerel mayonnaise. Liam Neeson looming behind us on the wall, gave one of his characteristic sneers. Then to the mains. This place is Michelin rated, The Times raved about it , a cracking Sunday roast should be a walk in the park for these guys - right? Wrong 2 slices of very thinly sliced sirloin arrive atop a blob of mash along with a burnt Yorkshire pudding and a drizzle of forgettable gravy. The waiter then pops down a tiny ramekin with 2 roast potatoes and a splodge of carrot and swede mash. I presume this is for one person. It is not - this is it for the table. The portion size is one roast potato each. I look at the walls and the grin seems to have left the ever cheery face of Christine Bleakley who is inexplicably staring down at us. Still - at least my one spud will be a knockout at this - NI’s number one Sunday lunch spot? Alas - it had, it would appear, been thrown raw into a deep fat fryer. No fluffy inside and deep gold crispy crunchy outside to be had at this establishment where parboiling is clearly passé. The interior was rock hard and exterior had a tough plastic like texture. Desserts were decent enough, service was pleasant, bill was eye watering for what was deeply, deeply average food and some of the worst treatment of a spud I’ve seen this side of the Irish Sea.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointing
It was my birthday treat and we had the taster menu. I've had 3 previous taster menus - Belfast, Reykjavik and Manchester. In comparison, this one was extremely disappointing - the menu was, weak, unimaginative, pretentious and main ingredients in two of the 'main courses' were bland and masked by sauces. The drinks accompaniment were extra and not offered on every course. If it hadn't been a birthday treat, I would certainly have spoken up on the night. Poor show

The food certainly had a nice flavour and flair, I had the sirloin of beef with a hard / burnt Yorkshire pudding which was disappointing in an otherwise lovely meal. The service felt slow but the restaurant had a very relaxed vibe so maybe that’s part of the appeal. We were out in the extended back bit and it lacked atmosphere and staff coverage. Didn’t get my coffee after my dessert even after being there as a family of 3 for 2hrs 15 minutes.
Be the first to ReplyVery high quality dining experience in friendly relaxed atmosphere
Taken here by friends. Fantastic high quality food with good focused wine list. Friendly yet very professional service. I opted for fish and crustacean 🦞 based dishes. They were fantastic Highly recommend this a dining experience
Be the first to ReplyA delightful culinary adventure.
In this fine Georgian house, Chris and Davina McGowan have established an open kitchen in a modern relaxed environment, with some eye-catching artwork on the walls. Succulent seafood or game feature in a selection of dishes comprising fresh local ingredients in distinctive combinations of colours, textures and flavours. The standard wine list offers reasonably priced highly quaffable options, and the fine wines listing is interestingly adventurous! Service is welcoming and responsive. Delightful crockery . . . but paper napkins for this fine dining experience???

A fantastic place for my wife's birthday meal. The food was first class and the welcome was warm. I wanted to try everything and even ordered two starters. Both were beautiful. On such a warm night the room was comfortable and well aired. The lady who attended to us could not have been friendlier and was very well versed on all aspects of the menu. Well done.

The food and service were excellent. The ambience is perfect, the menu is extensive and there is real value for money.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect Lunch for Two
I have never been disappointed with any meal at this restaurant, but today was just over and above our other visits. From my duck sausage and crispy hens egg starter through to the madeleines with our tea and coffee, everything was perfect. I think I could eat my starter every day for the rest of my life. It was gorgeous. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed every bite of his meal.

I had forgotten food could taste like this! Finally back in Wine and Brine for a birthday treat. My starter was a courgette flower stuffed with local crab, in a little pool of langoustine bisque. It was wonderful - the presentation was beautiful but it’s the flavours that count, and this had plenty. The main course of duck was a generous portion cooked to perfection, with a delicious jus/gravy and lots of little additions to the plate including an unforgettable caramelised shallot. Our sides to share included vegetables and although we all love our vegetables anyway we couldn’t believe they could be made so interesting! Delicious desserts and coffee, and a birthday treat of petit fours was brought to the table served in a beautiful ornate box. 10/10 for everything! One of the party started with a cocktail and our attentive waitress suggested a nice mocktail for me when I asked her. There’s a wide range of wines from various countries, all well priced, though there is a Chateauneuf du Pape at a much higher price if you want to push the boat out! The final bill was approximately £60 pp. I think this is very keenly priced for what we had. We would eat in the higher-end Belfast restaurants often enough to say that Wine and Brine is better. Service was good and we were well taken care of. I have no hesitation in recommending W and B if you want a special night out!
Be the first to ReplySimply Excellent
There was a Menu with plenty of choice for vegetarians and omnivores. Interesting starters included a Duck Sausage and a Lamb Bun with pea broth. Choice of three fish amongst around 9 mains and the we had the Indian style Monkfish. More traditional fare was available. I am not a desert person but here again there were temptations. There is a pleasant ambience about the restaurant and trained staff are vigilant and appropriately attentive. I note that like many other places this restaurant is only open Wednesday to Sunday - this is understandable but if consistency is maintained I would expect the number of couverts to grow and customer allegiance would be consolidated.I have ticked " fine dinning " on this review and it certainly was " fine ". I think that prices are much more acceptable than many in Belfast.

Called for a voucher subsidized meal with friends thanks to my wee sister, what a place, never disappoints, it is maybe a bit dear, but what value for money, I eat things here I would never try anywhere else simply because the flavour in everything in this restaurant is outstanding, I don't like paying over then odds for food, but this is a different ball game, worth every penny, service excellent, staff brilliant, what a great spot for a special night out

I took my wife to the Wine and Brine for her birthday last Sunday. The meal and the attention and service of all staff were fantastic. This is high quality food and compares equally if not better to the meals we have had in any of the top restaurants in France. We can thoroughly recommend the cod and chicken dishes and the fresh home made bread is delicious. There is a good choice of desserts and we particularly like the Savarin. The birthday did not go unnoticed as a happy birthday platter arrived with our tea. We eat here as often as we can and it's always consistently of a high standard.Thank you all at the Wine and Brine.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals we’ve had in a very long time!
We arrived on a wet Sunday afternoon and we’re happily greeted to the restaurant. The food was absolutely phenomenal! We had always heard that it was a good restaurant but for being located in a small town we weren’t quite prepared for just how good it actually was. The staff were helpful and friendly without being over bearing and when we asked for a choice of wines to accompany our desserts that weren’t on the menu they were only too happy to help, offering a few options that would pair up with our selection. The food is also charged very competitively and you would happily more for the standard you are receiving!

Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner for wedding anniversary
We haven’t been to Wine and Brine for a few years, but will return soon. The Saturday tasting menu was fantastic, and possibly the best food I have had in NI. The price point was very pleasing compared to prices in Belfast. Overall fantastic, looking forward to an early return.

We consider this a special event restaurant - it’s really very expensive but the food is lovely.
They have a great wine list and cocktails- and service was good. I had previously thought that had fallen off a bit when I had lunch there last, but the dinner staff was prompt and attentive.
They have enclosed what used to be a back garden so the place is much larger. There was no one eating in that area the night we went, and it was empty and a bit weird looking. They kept everyone to the front and we were close to that area so it was a bit creepy. They could scatter diners a bit more widely to make it less so.
Superb birthday meal
We had 5 members of our family with 3 courses.
All courses tasting excellent and cooked to perfection.
Friendly staff and attentive .
Amazing tasting menu
Recently experienced the tasting menu here, along with the wine pairing. The restaurant itself is cosy and warm, with very friendly staff. Each course was full of flavour and was well explained, and well complimented by the wine pairing. Will definitely make a return visit the next time I am in Northern Ireland.

OUTSTANDING. Best food I have tasted in many years. The quality of the food and presentation was first rate. Staff were unfailingly helpful. Have already booked again for the end of January
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience!
Wine & Brine is truly outstanding - from the greeting upon arrival, the decor and ambience - to the service and finally the food. All three courses were truly exceptional!
This was the best meal I have eaten in many years and without doubt the very best in Ireland. Every aspect of the Wine and Brine experience could not be faulted. The restaurant is calm and inviting - and was lovely to be, in as outside a hurricane had been blowing earlier!
I’m already looking forward to a return visit!
Extremely enjoyable: Tasting Menu Saturday Nights
We have been to Wine and Brine a couple of times and decided to try out the Tasting Menu on a Saturday night.
Firstly, the staff are very good, however the process of what was going to happen with the tasting menu took a bit of time to be explained, in fact I had to ask. There seemed to be an under-utilisation of staff and it seemed a bit strange and once the numbers of clients stepped up, they still seemed under-utilised. However, its clear that the staff have specific roles and responsibilities and that was very good to see.
Overall, not wishing to run through all of the items on the tasting menu, it was very clear to see how they’ve gotten awards and are in the Michelin Guide and frankly should in my view have 1*. The duck consommé and bun was very enjoyable and though I’m not a fish eater, I enjoyed the brill and would recommend it as well… Overall, very, very enjoyable and I’d highly recommend for anyone to go and have the Tasting Menu. We didn’t have the alcohol pairing options with any of the courses.
Minor comment: I though delivery on the granite chips in bowls was a bit unusual and when I asked, the answer was that the unusual shaped servings would sit better on the stone chips, however, we immediately would lift the food off onto our plate… so not so convinced on the granite chip bowls being ideal for delivery and presentation.

I’d also add that we had dined in Wine and Brine with the normal menu and the food was excellent- the food was some of the best I’ve had in Northern Ireland in the past 5 years.
