Wine and Brine Craigavon Reviews from The Last Year
So so so disappointed
So disappointing! Will not be rushing back. Food is so bland, any home cook could do better. Kilkeel crab starter did not taste of crab and mackerel was just cardboard bland! Mains- chicken very non descriptive and sides still trying to work out what they were??? Monkfish however tasty, but minus the curry sauce it tasted soapy. I tried to steel myself for a dessert, but my husband decided to try the ginger dessert. A mistake- bland and boring. I am sincerely disappointed to say, this restaurant is extremely poor and non reflective of the fabulous N Ireland cuisine. Honestly, I was so disappointed. Why pay these prices, when so much more on our doorstep in Belfast??
Food & service great
This was our first time here, 5 girls for a special birthday. Food & service both excellent. We got the coldest place in the restaurant by fire exit in the conservatory & they donβt allow outside birthday cakes. Enjoyed the night though. Would prefer a bit more heat & not sit whole night with coats on
Fabulous Birthday Treat!
My partner and I came here for my Birthday meal. We loved every second of the experience. The drink selection was delicious, the decor was beautiful and the food was spot on! A special mention to our server, Zara, who was welcoming, knowledgeable on the Menu and a great conversation. From reccommending dishes to describing them, i couldnt believe it when she said she had only been there a matter of weeks. A real credit to your team! And hard to find a fault in the overall experience π
Not NIβs best Sunday Lunch!
Perhaps like others weβd seen this place mentioned in the press recently as βthe best Sunday lunch in Northern Irelandβ. Well, Iβm sorry to say that is very, very far from being true and I can only assume the chef at Ox who made this claim to The Times is a friend of the owners. First courses in the Β£40 set menu were underwhelming - my βscorchedβ cured mackerel with taco turned out to be 4 tiny pieces of fish plonked on top of soggy slices of cucumber in a sort of half cocked ceviche, with a side of a small crisp filled with mackerel mayonnaise. Liam Neeson looming behind us on the wall, gave one of his characteristic sneers. Then to the mains. This place is Michelin rated, The Times raved about it , a cracking Sunday roast should be a walk in the park for these guys - right? Wrong 2 slices of very thinly sliced sirloin arrive atop a blob of mash along with a burnt Yorkshire pudding and a drizzle of forgettable gravy. The waiter then pops down a tiny ramekin with 2 roast potatoes and a splodge of carrot and swede mash. I presume this is for one person. It is not - this is it for the table. The portion size is one roast potato each. I look at the walls and the grin seems to have left the ever cheery face of Christine Bleakley who is inexplicably staring down at us. Still - at least my one spud will be a knockout at this - NIβs number one Sunday lunch spot? Alas - it had, it would appear, been thrown raw into a deep fat fryer. No fluffy inside and deep gold crispy crunchy outside to be had at this establishment where parboiling is clearly passΓ©. The interior was rock hard and exterior had a tough plastic like texture. Desserts were decent enough, service was pleasant, bill was eye watering for what was deeply, deeply average food and some of the worst treatment of a spud Iβve seen this side of the Irish Sea.
Extremely disappointing
It was my birthday treat and we had the taster menu. I've had 3 previous taster menus - Belfast, Reykjavik and Manchester. In comparison, this one was extremely disappointing - the menu was, weak, unimaginative, pretentious and main ingredients in two of the 'main courses' were bland and masked by sauces. The drinks accompaniment were extra and not offered on every course. If it hadn't been a birthday treat, I would certainly have spoken up on the night. Poor show
Sunday Lunch
The food certainly had a nice flavour and flair, I had the sirloin of beef with a hard / burnt Yorkshire pudding which was disappointing in an otherwise lovely meal. The service felt slow but the restaurant had a very relaxed vibe so maybe thatβs part of the appeal. We were out in the extended back bit and it lacked atmosphere and staff coverage. Didnβt get my coffee after my dessert even after being there as a family of 3 for 2hrs 15 minutes.
Very high quality dining experience in friendly relaxed atmosphere
Taken here by friends. Fantastic high quality food with good focused wine list. Friendly yet very professional service. I opted for fish and crustacean π¦ based dishes. They were fantastic Highly recommend this a dining experience
A delightful culinary adventure.
In this fine Georgian house, Chris and Davina McGowan have established an open kitchen in a modern relaxed environment, with some eye-catching artwork on the walls. Succulent seafood or game feature in a selection of dishes comprising fresh local ingredients in distinctive combinations of colours, textures and flavours. The standard wine list offers reasonably priced highly quaffable options, and the fine wines listing is interestingly adventurous! Service is welcoming and responsive. Delightful crockery . . . but paper napkins for this fine dining experience???
A delightful family birthday meal
A fantastic place for my wife's birthday meal. The food was first class and the welcome was warm. I wanted to try everything and even ordered two starters. Both were beautiful. On such a warm night the room was comfortable and well aired. The lady who attended to us could not have been friendlier and was very well versed on all aspects of the menu. Well done.
Excellent
The food and service were excellent. The ambience is perfect, the menu is extensive and there is real value for money.
