I can't say enough good things about my dining experience here. The very first bite of our initial course, the red snapper, literally put tears in my eyes. It was THAT good. And when the standards are that high off the bat, you can't help but wonder where the rest of the gastronomic experience will take you. At Wako, it only got better. The Chawan mushi and uni (ala carte) was so silky and pleasant in the mouth. The subtle uni flavors elevated every bite. The chutoro or medium fatty tuna marinated in jalapeno soy melted in my mouth, definitely one of my favorites of the evening. The king mackerel brushed with ponzu sauce was slighty smoky and melted in my mouth as well. A5 Wagyu is an absolute must. The tiramisu was decadent and came with two cute little edible bear characters on top. Such an adorable detail! The service was top-notch. Sitting at the counter is a must if you're doing omakase. It was mesmerizing to watch the sushi chefs assemble the course like an art form while you get interesting tidbits on the food you're about to eat. We learned that they import their ingredients from the same fish markets that Michelin restaurants do! The waitresses were highly attentive as well and never missed a beat. If you're deciding on where to eat in SF, Wako should be a top consideration. For the price relative to other omakase spots, it is definitely worth it.
