Vita Ristorante Welwyn Garden City Reviews from The Last Year
Been coming to La Dolce Vita ever since I was a kid.
Decided to order my go-to Chef's Combo for takeout tonight. Got home and was super pumped to dig in. Unfortunately, there was no tortellini or mozzarella cheese on top of the chicken parm. A big let down. Bummer.

TLDR; they used to be way better! Skip the shrimp linguine and ALWAYS get the gnocchi short fall from the top! I've been coming here since the early 2000s and it's always been one of my favorite places in Provo. Recently however i have been a little less impressed. The friendly service is always consistent but this last time we got our orders and food but were basically ignored beyond that...leaving us with empty drinks and not enough bread (we didn't even get the bread promised from our entrees) I've always recommended the gnocchi but this most recent time decided to try the shrimp linguine with marinara instead and was really disappointed...it lacked enough sauce and flavor and the shrimp tasted like thawed shrimp thrown on top of the dish. My co-worker got the gnocchi and it hit on all marks and continued to be likely the best dish on entire menu. The soup was really good as well and I'll still continue to visit here just am likely not branching out to anything besides the gnocchi going forward. Oh and the bread used to be way better but now it feels like it's cut up French bread from the store with a little bit of butter and garlic powder sparingly used. This used to be a crown jewel in Provo with a locally owned family ran vibe. The owners would greet you and speak some Italian with you and it was a great experience every time. This most recent visit was a disappointing one but not ready to give it up and hopefully see nonna again soon!
We were a group of 8.
Service was slow. There was one lady doing it all for 10 tables. She was doing the best she could. So once you got your drink there was no refill. I got the chicken parm and it was room temperature when I got it and the pasta and sauce were cold. The sauce tasted like it was from a cheap can and the pasta that came with it was mushy and way over cooked like a microwave dinner meal. One of our salads salad had a dead bug in it which was very off putting. The bread tastes like it was from a frozen box then toasted. Our group was very disappointed.
I was a little let down here not gonna lie.
The mixed sauce pasta just tasted a little cheap. I was expecting something more authentic. Maybe it was. But the Alfredo just seemed like it came from a can or something. Bummer! The waiters were kind. Long time family business which is awesome. Something about the place felt a little loud too. Maybe we need to try again
After a day in Provo, I decided it was time for some dinner.
When La Dolce Vita came up, I immediately decided I wanted to go there. Parking was super easy when I was here but I could see it being a problem for other people, as there isn't really a designated lot for patrons at this restaurant. I was a little bit early so I had to wait for them to open. Then I was the first one in the doors that day. I was immediately greeted by a server who took me back to a table. If there was one good impression I had, it was the service. They were really nice throughout the entire interaction. I decided to treat myself to a drink, so I got a raspberry italian soda. It was actually really good and a decent portion. However, knowing what we know about Swig and everything else, I would say $4.50 for the drink was a bit steep. For the dinner, I chose to get the entree with a combination of two pastas of your choice. I chose the alfredo pasta and the gnocchi. It also came with an appetizer of your choice and I chose the minestrone soup. After my drink came out, they brought me a basket, wrapped in foil, with a piece of sliced bread in it. I appreciate the gesture but it came across really unauthentic. Unless I am at a Denny's, it is a bit weird to get a slice of bread. Usually, if it is some kind of appetizer, it is a basket of rolls or breadsticks. The minestrone came out next and it was given to me shortly after ordering. Similar to the bread, it was super unauthentic and just didn't come off very classy. It was in a flavorless broth, with what I am convinced was cans of mixed vegetables--the ones you get at the dollar tree that have potatoes, carrots, and corn in them. The noodles also tasted tough and tasted a bit old honestly. I hate to say it, but most soups at home, even ones from a can, tasted better than their minestrone. The entree also came out really quickly, but followed the trend of everything else. The alfredo tasted like it was from a can and just overall, the whole meal felt like it was lacking tremendously in flavor. I am trying to word it as softly as I can, but in case you have not been able to gather this yet; I did not like the food. I left thinking, "I genuinely cannot think of a time that I have had worse food". This makes me so sad because I went into the restaurant with high hopes and tried so hard to like it. This business has been around for so long and I hope they still are around for years to come. The location is great, they have lots of seating, and the customer service is wonderful. They need a rebrand and they need to transform into a more authentic, fresh restaurant. Even that one chain that has an Olive in it makes their alfredo/soup/etc in house. Granted, I completely understand that the inventory has to come from somewhere but seasonings and fresher ingredients can go a long way. People rarely crave canned items, especially when they are treating themselves to eating out. Unfortunately, I would not go back and eat the food. I would love to see the servers again. I would love to have the fun atmosphere in the restaurant again. I hope they have some kind of restructure of their menu and make their menu items more "homemade"--I'd be back in a heartbeat.
Very good service and atmosphere.
Best part was great food. We got fresh bread and combos which had fresh pasta and great sauces.
I should have let the 5 people at 3 tables (empty
I should have let the 5 people at 3 tables (empty restaurant) be my guide to go elsewhere... We got gnocchi combo and the spinach ravioli from the two can dine special. The gnocchi and pasta weren't fresh made. The sauces lacked flavor. I could go on, but this should get the point across to go somewhere else.
I've only been there once, so maybe there are better items
I've only been there once, so maybe there are better items on the menu, but the food I got was not good, which is the main reason I have for the poor review. Everything on the menu seemed very Americanized, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because I love authentic and Americanized Italian food, but I know some people are looking for something more authentic. It took a long time for our food to be brought to us. The building, decoration, and seating are old and worn-down. I'm not sure what's with all the 1 and 5 star review differences. Maybe they're really great someday and really bad at other times? I wish I could have gone during one of those great times people have been talking about.
Very bland.
I guess the actual chef wasn't in yet or something because this was just not up to par for Italian food.
