San Tung San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year

Im sad their second location closed, but their dry chicken is a CLASSIC. It doesn't matter how busy they are. They always make sure their food hits. In terms of ambiance, it's your classic, Chinese style home family restaurant.

Came here on a Saturday night, and had to wait about an hour for a table (we spent that time walking to Pineapple King for a pre-dinner dessert :)) Once seated, we had the famous wings as well as the string beans. The wings were amazing--coated in a thick, sweet garlic sauce that complimented the juicy meat inside well. The string beans were a bit too sweet for my taste. Ambiance was lively. Would highly recommend before a night out!

I love this restaurant a ton! I come here often and always buy tons of food. But I came here today with my family visiting from Korea and they were closed! They had a piece of paper on the front door saying they are on vacation until May 30. We live a little far away so I would have appreciated updated hours online and on Yelp. Lots of people were coming and shocked that they were closed. They need to update their hours

This food was by fair the best food I had while in San Francisco. Went twice! Service was great. The green beans and chicken was the best I ever had.

I was worried because we weren't able to get here until half an hour before closing on a sunday but they still put us on the list and 20-30 minutes later we were seated. The sizzling rice soup was the perfect first thing to come out. We were so hungry and it was so warm, comforting, and i live the crunch of the rice. The chicken was of course the star of the show. I LOVE the sauce, not just the sweet tangy taste but also the quantity of sauce to chicken - not overbearing, just the perfect ratio. And the CRUNCH. It's the perfect texture. The twice cooked pork was different from what I'm used to but duh this in't a Sichuan place. And green beans are never not good.
This place is on every foodie's SF list for a solid reason.
I think my first visit was several years ago and they have been consistent to this day which is awesome! Food Dry fried chicken wings: Get these! Sweet, tangy, sticky, and fried to perfection. The chicken is moist. Amazing! Don't get the ones without the bone. Combination spicy soup: not for the faint of heart lol I think we ordered this by accident, but it was still tasty. Green beans: These are still good and they share a similar sauce as the dry fried chicken wings. Beef noodle soup: understated favorite soup. I like the deep, dark broth and I haven't found a place that can replicate anything remotely similar. Service The servers are pretty fast and efficient. The food comes out quick and hot. The vibe is very much, in a way: in and out with a belly full of chicken wings and delicious Chinese food. Parking is street.
Let me tell you about my favorite Chinese food place !
Let me tell you about my favorite Chinese food place ! First and foremost you need to get an order of the dry fried chicken wings, they make a great appetizer while you decide what to get to eat. Ordered the combination chow mein which was superb and went with something new today with the shrimp & leek dumplings surprisingly delicious as well. Additionally ordered broccoli beef with a side of white rice. All that food was able to feed my family(2 adults, 2 children). Servings are family style so more than enough to go around. Servers are always really fast with service as this place is consistently busy but still attentive to orders. This place does get really busy and you have to put your name on a white board we did wait for roughly 40 mins but worth the wait. Also for parking it's better to find some around the block unless you get lucky and get one in front. Excellent place every time I'm in SF and in the area I make a stop can't wait to be back.

There are three items I get over and over and over and OVER again. And not get tired of it. Dry fried chicken wings. Black bean noodles. Garlic flavored eggplants

I've been here twice now and both times, I really enjoyed my experience!! During my last visit, my husband and I ordered the hot and sour soup, original dry fried chicken, and dumplings. They're known for their original dry fried chicken and I will say it is worth the hype. Everything we had was really good and would recommend them all. The servings were are large and can be eaten family style. Depending on when you come, there can be a decent sized wait. During my last visit, I came a little bit before the dinner rush on a weekday and was seated immediately, however, I noticed a line started to form soon after. Service here is really friendly and attentive. The ambiance is casual. Overall, I'd recommend this spot if you're craving good, authentic Chinese food!
San Tung has always been one of my comfort food restaurant
San Tung has always been one of my comfort food restaurant to go to. It's been several years since I've been back but it still taste exactly the same. The wait can get pretty long so I suggest you come early as they do close at 8:30pm. The classic is to always order the dry style chicken WINGS BONE IN. Don't you dare do the boneless one the chicken always comes out fresh and crunchy. Don't ever leave leftovers because it doesn't taste as good microwaved at home Their pork dumplings have so much flavor and seasoning in the meat that you honestly don't need sauce unless you want a little kick to it, use their chili sauce! The vegetable chowmein was good but it fell a bit short cuz I felt there wasn't a lot of fresh vegetables in it. Seemed like they used canned mushrooms in it! The hot and sour soup was a good starter to open up our appetite. Definitely over ordered for 2 people but plenty of delicious leftovers for the next day. :)

I've always ordered to-go for San Tung and just loved their fried chicken, black bean noodles and the green beans. I was finally able to try dining-in, and the experience did not disappoint. The place was packed on a weekday. There was some wait time, but everyone moved quick. And as usual, loved their food!!!

I would give this way more than 5 stars if I could! The wait is well worth it for their original dry fried wings. You can also ask for it to be spicier and they will definitely have a good kick to them. I've been multiple times and the wings never disappoint, and are my favorite wings in the city for sure. Not many vegetarian options, but I would definitely recommend the Vegetarian chow mein, it has good flavor and tons of veggies, and I always get it when I go. The green beans are a great starter as well, and vegetarian! They bring the food out fast after ordering too which is great. One of my favorite restaurants in the city!!
This is what we ordered for 8 people.
2 orders or chicken wings Green beans Black bean sauce noodles Garlic eggplant Cherry pork Shrimp and leek dumplings Dry fried flounder The chicken wings were pretty skimpy - not plump with chicken meat. They were crispy and the same original sauce but not meaty at all. The green beans were excellent but they came at the end of the meal so we were pretty full. They were crispy and tender at the same time. Shrimp and leek dumplings were good. So were the black bean noodles. Make sure you ask to have the noodles cut with scissors. We haven't ordered cherry pork in a long time. The outside was crispy and saucy and the inside was tender. It was an excellent dish. A must order again. I was really disappointed in the dry fried flounder. The dish was not crispy and the glaze was not right. The pieces of the fish were thicker cut where I prefer them to be thinner. It was my first time ordering the garlic eggplant. There was a lot of sauce and I didn't taste too much garlic. I think next time I'll just order 2 orders of green beans. Make sure to make a reservation if you have 6 people or more. We were in and out of San tung in one hour and they gave us the private room to dine in! Pay cash and your bill is less! Cash is king!

Heard many good things about the wings here so it was a must stop while visiting SF. We were a table for 7, and got there around noon on a Saturday. It was very busy but we were seated right away. It's family style dining and we were all pleased with the dishes. The green beans and wings stood out the most to us.
Visiting SF and San Tung was a hot spot recommended to us.
Came on a Saturday afternoon with a larger party and got seated right away! We got two orders of the famous fried chicken, stir fried green beans, combination fried rice, peanut sauce noodles, and wonton soup for 7 people. The fried chicken was really good, but it just tasted like very saucy fish sauce wings to me. I would come back for it though along with the green beans and combo fried rice as both tasted very authentic and well seasoned!
Haven't been to this place in a few years since I live in
Haven't been to this place in a few years since I live in the East Bay Area but I happened to be in SF today so I had to come get the Chicken Wings again. I called my order in for takeout since I remember they can get really busy. Food was ready quickly and the person who helped me was really friendly. The wings were just as good as I remembered. Definitely one of the top chicken wings I've ever had!
