Red Lion Freehouse & Troutbeck Guest House Pewsey Reviews from The Last Year
Late lunch
Come here after playing a round of golf up the road. Greeted by the staff very friendly and welcoming, along with the dog running around saying hello. The waiting staff was attentive enough, nothing overbearing. Pickled scallops & liver parfait to start, tasted very nice pleasantly surprised, then both had the lamb. Again cooked well only exception was after the two dishes wasn’t as full as could have been however foot was good. Then desert had crème brûlée simple, one of my favourites. Bill come to around £135 which again I don’t think this was too much at all for the food being good. Would always say for people to go and take a visit.
Wonderful anniversary dinner
We were staying nearby for our 16th wedding anniversary, and wanting a nice dinner found the Red Lion. We had the 5 course Tasting menu with 1 wine flight (hubby was driving sadly). The food was absolutely incredible, and the staff were so friendly they made us feel instantly relaxed. One of the dishes had a Lobster bisque and as I don't eat lobster they changed it for me so easily. We'll definitely be back, especially as we saw they had rooms overlooking the river, so maybe next anniversary! Thanks to all the staff and chefs for a wonderful evening.
Stunningly Good & Memorable Anniversary Dinner
We stayed the night for a family celebration and reviewed the delightful accommodation but didn't do justice to the amazing meal we had in the pub. Quite simply superb! Friendly intuitive yet not intrusive staff. Lovely atmosphere with a clever mix of relaxed pub and fine dining. The food was fresh, utterly delicious and beautifully presented. The accompanying beer, wine and gin were more of the same. Breakfast with Claudia's fun attention was the best ever. The team with Jamie in the lead made our anniversary, one to remember for a very long time. And we can't wait to come back. Thank you.
Wow
Wow! We stayed in the wonderful Benjamin room which was huge, beautifully and imaginatively decorated and with a super comfy bed, spotlessly clean with a fabulous view over the river, particularly good from the tub in the room. The second wow was the restaurant. The restaurant is cosy, all the staff are super friendly but also extremely professional. The food is absolutely amazing, can’t rate it highly enough. A fabulous place to stay and eat.
Excellent
Consistently excellent food, consistently excellent service. Lovely accommodation nearby. Handled allergies well. We will keep coming back.
Very good dinner and friendly staff
Both our a la carte dinner and next day breakfast were of good standard. And, the friendly, efficient staff made both meals very experiences
Times Michelin guide, really??
Overly priced for the quality of food and whole evening dining experience. Firstly not a fan of a big slobbering dog on the near table that greeted us at the bar. Secondly the waiting staff got the drinks order wrong then just dumped the food on the table without explaining which fish was which - we had to swap our dishes. (Also happened at the desert stage. Soup was served on cold plates so food was tepid. We had to ask for spoons. Cod was overstated on a bet of over buttered spinach and mash was tasteless. I asked for a portion of broccoli on the side and was told I wasn’t allowed as it was only for the other dish. ‘Provencal’ was half a tomato. Dish was soggy and small. Not impressed and not going back.
An expensive disappointment !
Had looked forward to our visit but were rather underwhelmed. Food was OK but very overpriced for just above average pub grub.Ambience quite nice. Staff not very interested apart from the lovely lady who served breakfast and looked after the rooms - the one member of staff who showed any warmth. Don't let her go ! Finally, a right mess was made of our bill. All rather disappointing I'm afraid.
Consistently high standards
The Red Lion offers food of the highest quality, great service and a relaxed atmosphere. You can stay too - the rooms are in a separate building just a few meters from the pub and are very quiet and luxurious. All highly recommended
Delicious and imaginative food in great surroundings. Very friendly and professional service
Another stunning meal at this great place. Thanks to all of you. I’ll be back as soon as I can find an excuse 😊 Robin
