A special venue for a special occasion and worth the 1 hour drive to east Lancashire. Northcote probably should have featured on Steve Coogan's 'The Trip' as its one of the best restaurants in this part of the north west, and fully deserved of its Michelin star in my opinion. Canapé of Lancashire cheese biscuits with onion mouse, washed down with fragoli prosecco was a nice start. Service from front of house staff to all waiting staff is of an immensely high standard, the perfect balance of attentive and friendly. We picked from the seasonal menu which is good value at around £33 for 3 courses. I had the fish terrine to start, a compiled by a few pieces of freshly baked delicious Lancashire cheese bread. Wine was superb and excellent value. A 2012 The Red from Stellenbosch was around £34 and worth every penny. Main course of hanger steak (onglet in France) - the part of the cow below the fillet - was flavoursome and had a meatiness. Melting ginger pudding was fairly pricey from the a la carte at £15, but tasty nonetheless. Owner and chef, Nigel Haworth, popped round the lunchtime tables for a quick chat. Masterchef the professionals has just filmed here, to be aired in October. This place deserves to be featured, and should be enjoyed by those throughout the UK when in the region.
