Mensho Tokyo SF San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
This is the best Ramen in San Francisco, hands-down! I got
This is the best Ramen in San Francisco, hands-down! I got the lamb cumin ramen, GKO (I think), and the miso butter corn spicy! They were also unique and different but my favorite Ramen from here is the lamb one!!! Flavor, the broth is so creamy and delicious! They don't take reservations and it's a relatively small restaurant, but the line moved quickly!

This place is awesome!! A tight crammed in Ramen spot on the tenderloin. The line outside starts 30 minutes before they open. The ramen come out fast and they seem to have it down perfectly. Both ramen bowls we had were delicious with really great flavors and unique. Inside has traditional ethnic decorations and is slammed in pretty tight. This place is a 10!
It's been a minute since I've been back to Mensho pre-Covid
It's been a minute since I've been back to Mensho pre-Covid and it didn't disappoint! Always a line per usual but there is an hour time limit and a bowl per person which makes the line move relatively fast. The menu itself is expansive but I opted for the signature ramen since it has all the fixings and it was so good! Everything was cooked to perfection. Loved the fried enoki as well. I'll be back to try the lamb and matcha duck ramen. The quality and taste is top notch.
Amazing service and the best ramen broth I've ever had.
There's usually a line out the door, but it moves pretty quickly and is well worth the wait.
Interesting ramen with an ok taste.
The miso corn ramen reminded me of Japanese curry. I wouldn't get it again. The corn served with it was very good. We also tried the duck chashu ramen, also just ok. For the price point was hoping for more. Service was fast and we only stood in line for 10 minutes. Rough neighborhood so best to Uber.
I finally came to Mensho for the first time, and it was
I finally came to Mensho for the first time, and it was good, but was so overhyped that it didn't meet my expectations. Ordered the signature paitan ramen and the fried enoki. To start with the good: we came at 5:30pm on a Wednesday and there was no wait! The larger tables are separated by screens, and they have baskets under the table for your things. Food came out quickly and our server was friendly. I rarely get chicken-based ramen, and the broth was surprisingly good. Rich, silky, and packed with flavor and umami. The noodles were thick and bouncy, just how I like them. The ajitama egg was also reallyyy good, one of the better ramen eggs I've had recently. The fried enoki was so delicious, it was giving calamari vibes especially with lemon on top. It was seasoned well, slightly salty, and the thin ends of the enoki were literally fried to a chip-level crunch. Onto the cons: the meat was overall disappointing, the thin pork belly was chewy and not tender at all. The duck chashu was slightly better, at least it was tender, but I wish it had more flavor. I also think the fried burdock on top was completely unnecessary, it just got in the way of me getting into my bowl of ramen. I definitely enjoyed my meal, but I wouldn't wait in line for it. And for being on the Michelin guide, I expected to be blown away a little more. I would come back with my bf since it seems like the vegan offerings are highly rated.
Came here at 5:30 and was seated immediately with no wait
Came here at 5:30 and was seated immediately with no wait although a line definitely started to form as we were finishing up. The ramen was good but I didnt think it was as amazing as all of these reviews make it out to be. Not really a fan of the fried burdock chip although it was an interesting addition. The duck chashu was my favorite part of this dish - super tender and rich. Fried enoki mushrooms were good, but the pieces are huge so it was hard to grab them. The restaurant itself is pretty small and mainly high tables. Not too noisy but not a lot of room to move around. I like that they have baskets for you to put your bag/jacket. Glad I finally got to try this out but I'll probably have to continue my search for the best ramen in sf.
Highly recommended.
This is a must-try if you want to experience and enjoy all the ramen SF offers, especially for vegetarians. To me, the ramen is full of rich Umami flavor. The service is quick and efficient. The seating is very tight, not a lot of personal space. Everyone sits close together on basically two long tables + bar seating + 1 square table, separated by plastic screens. Expect to have your personal space violated by being touched by others moving around in the aisle while going to the restroom or by entering/leaving. Only 1 bathroom, and wait times can be long. Note: expect long wait times. Waited in line at 7 pm on a Saturday, and didn't get seated until 8 pm.

BEST RAMEN IN SF!!!! It is 10000% worth the wait and the hype. The ramen is just mouth watering. There is a line pretty much all the time, but it moves quickly as you only have exactly 1 hour to dine. We waited about 20 minutes? It's located in the tenderloin, but it wasn't a bad street so you feel safe waiting in life. The space is really small, but such an amazing place.
Went with the whole family for dinner.
One of the best ramen places we've visited. ( Comparing places we've been to in NYC, Dallas, and LA ) Noodles have the perfect chew, the broth from all the bowls we tried were rich and flavorful umami bombs! Toppings were great as well. Staff were very nice, polite and efficient.
Best Ramen ever
Still best Ramen that I ever had in my life. I already have been in famous places in Miami/NYC/Chicago and none got even close to what you can have here. I recently move from SF and this restaurant is one of the things that I will really miss.
Amazing ramen
Amazing! Really loved the ramen. Big portions, friendly staff. Very busy so expect long lines. We had to wait about 30 mins on a Saturday evening.
With all the expansion happening, I feel like the ramen is
With all the expansion happening, I feel like the ramen is just getting worse. Vegan tantanmen doesn't have the same taste or creaminess as when they first made it. Look back on the tantanmen pictures from years ago when they used to serve it with gobo and edamame. Also, the ordering process reverted back to physical menus again. The QR codes they had up at every table previously were much more convenient. I think the miso lamb ramen might still be tasty, but after spending $20+ on a bowl of ramen, there are much better alternatives out there. Heck, I can make a tantanmen from scratch that tastes better than what's offered at Mensho nowadays. Shame about all the changes that have impacted their quality since the early years.

One of the best veggie ramens in the city! Came in on a Sunday evening, we showed up at 6:30 and beat most of the rush. We were seated in about 20 minutes. There are multiple veggie options on the menu, each with two spice options. I ordered the vegan tantanmen with regular spice. The broth, veggies, and textured protein were fantastic! The spice level was perfect for me too. Would definitely recommend Mensho for vegetarians and vegans! They clearly put a lot of care into crafting their meat-free selections.

The first time we came at regular dinner time, and we waited for almost an hour to be seated. The second time, we came on Thursday night early at night, like 5:30 pm, so luckily we didn't wait too long to be seated. Best unique ramen place in SF. Their broth are more on the rich and heavy side. We tried Duck matcha ramen, Chashu mazemen, and G.K.O... all of them are sooo good!
The ramen was amazing! The little wait was totally worth it.
Great service and good ambiance. Will definitely be going back next time I am in San Francisco.
TL;DR - Aggressive wait times, poor facilities, rushed
TL;DR - Aggressive wait times, poor facilities, rushed experiences make this trendy ramen shop stacked against itself. While there is definitely some flavor to be found, this Paitan-focused location is easily outclassed by rival options. So after a cooling off period of about 7 years, I decided to come here again after I had gotten quite a bit more ramen under my belt. Unlike before, I had a chance to eat at a lot more ramen here and abroad, so I understood quite a bit more about the different ramen types. My previous review of 3/5 was pretty soured by the experience of the location itself, it's very poorly situated in a dense urban area with 0 parking, hill-ish walking, and no waiting area. They have folks form a line outside and it can get long, real quick. This is more a symptom of their success so I felt it unfair to judge them in that manner, so let's try this again... We got there at 4pm this time, so we got right in (thank god), because it was pouring rain outside, and super cold (48 degrees F). Last time we had gone here they had communal tables, but now the cramped space has COVID-style booth shields. Privacy is nice, kinda reminded me of Tokyo-style bullet train sushi restaurants but the chairs were super uncomfortable. Additionally, the bathroom was completely out of order, with no option next door or anywhere around. I can only imagine standing in line in the pouring rain to eat here, only to find out there is no restroom at all. Kinda crazy. I ordered tea, beer, the Tori Paitan, my wife got the A5 Wagyu Shoyu and a melon soda. Service was slightly laggy, but nothing egregious. I asked if they could shut the door because the draft was extreme. Wind was whipping inside and for whatever reason they said they needed to keep it open, which outside of a health code thing I see absolutely no reason they need this thing open. Food arrived, we feasted. My wife had said while the A5 was unseasoned, the broth was quite good. Be aware, their paitan ramen is of primary chicken broth, so the flavors can be quite different from more common tonkatsu broth. I had had plenty of paitan in Tokyo, my favorite being some of the yuzu-infused varieties. Their broth was unfortunately quite underwhelming, being heavy in a bad way with a strange seasoning that didn't get better as you ate it. Additionally, the chashu I received was stone cold, despite it being in the soup. The menma, incorrectly cooked and so it was gummy/chewy. The noodles were also a tad overdone but that might just be their style, which I tend to like firmer noodles (my wife enjoyed hers, as she likes more soft). The real end for it all though was the fact that due to the draft, both my tea and my soup were cold within minutes. I was overhearing our neighbors talk about it too. Unfortunately I strongly believe the constant attitude of "get them in, get them out" permeated the entire experience, and the environment is aggressively against making you comfortable. Don't get me wrong, the service had a smile and was quite friendly, but the way they run this spot needs a little work, it's lost it's way. My original review had expressed some hate for the lines, questioning why the hell someone would want this rather than travel a half a mile in any direction to find much better options. My opinion now is even worse, because I know for certain now the food is not as good as people say, and the facilites are worse than they've ever been. Bottom line, the place felt pretty cheap to be charging $25-$49/bowl. First time in awhile I recall a ramen spot not even offering a glass with a beer. All these small details add to an experience feeling more like fast food, sans the bill. If you are looking for paitan specifically, Marufuku in Japantown, or even Hinodeya (though the latter not my favorite) would be far better options, with more space, more respect for the customer, and far better food. Or... you can continue to stand outside for an hour for this. Smh SF...

Tasty ramen! Corn was ok, ramen was great, ambiance was great, and pricing standard. Thankfully the line and wait wasn't long for Thursday night. I'd return!
Oh my goodness this ramen spot is absolutely delicious.
We ordered the signature toripaitan ramen and everything about it was perfect. I love the thicker style ramen noodles and it was cooked perfectly, it had a great chewiness to it that I really enjoy with ramen noodles. The broth, egg, proteins, every component of it was delicious. I was extremely impressed with the ramen here and highly recommend it. I did wish the proteins were a bit thicker cut but over all the ramen was almost perfect in my book. I highly recommend coming 10-15 min before they open as there was already a queue on Thursday evening before they even opened. Food and service is quick though so that's a plus.

Not very accessible from the Bart station, will require a long walk or public/rideshare service. Very crowded and small. I came in late hours, but regular hours would prob have a long line Had their Spicy Signature Toripaitan ramen, very filling. Toppings were a bit cold (maybe needed to warm up a bit?) Overall the ramen was good.

My partner doesn't eat pork or beef so the quest for ramen always takes extensive research. We love Mensho because they offer lamb and chicken options/broth. I got the signature Toripaitan and my date got lamb ramen. Everything is seasoned well and noodles were springy. Absolutely delicious! Fried enoki chips is a delicious addition!
We visited this place with high expectations on a Sunday.
It was our first time there, and my partner and I were deliberating on what to order. He opted for the Classic Tori Paitan, while I was intrigued by the Tori Paitan with G.K.O. Both of us avoid pork, so when our server suggested the vegan ramen G.K.O, we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the vegan ramen turned out to be disappointing. It lacked flavor entirely, which was quite disheartening. However, upon tasting the Tori Paitan, I found it delightful. When I requested a replacement for the vegan ramen, citing the server's recommendation, we were surprisingly denied. This was a first for us in this country; typically, restaurants are accommodating when a customer isn't satisfied with their order, especially if it falls short of expectations. It seems the restaurant's pride in their "Michelin guide" feature may have overshadowed their commitment to customer satisfaction. I can't recommend the vegan ramen--it's simply not worth the money.
Overrated and not worth it
I came with high expectation. But I have to say it is very average. Soup was very heavy on garlic. Environment is noisy. With one ramen (+1 topping), and two drinks, I paid 43 dollars and I would expect more with this price.
Terribly over-rated & expensive
Average ramen at best. Interesting broth and noodles but super salty. We also ordered the A5 sashimi, the pork chasiu bowl and the chicken karaage on the side. For ramen, we ordered the GKO (Garlic Knock Out). The A5 sashimi is a waste of $ 12... Two thin sliced of beef on a knob of rice with an over the top sauce on the side. The chasiu is ok. The karaage is full of batter... Not sure what the rave is about. Definitely not coming back. BTW - they automatically add 20% service charge and you order the food from the app!
Will be back if mochi ramen still on their menu
I love their mochi ramen and chicken karrage. I did order a side of garlic to boost my ramen flavor. However, they charged $5 for a tiny cup of hot green tea that can’t be refilled…Eh… so don’t order drinks from them, they’re Expensive!! If the line isn’t too long, this is a good ramen place for you to try.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
