Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurant (Coming Soon) Houston Reviews from The Last Year
We visited this location today to have a small Mother's Day
We visited this location today to have a small Mother's Day celebration with me my mom and my husband. We started off with a beer and ordered an appetizer and then we ordered another beer and then we were told we cannot order any more alcoholic drinks after two if we didn't order an entrée to our surprise that has never happened and we felt limited and insulted. We have been to several Lupe locations with friends and family and we have never been told this. The server said he couldn't serve us anymore based on TABC requirements, we are business owners with TABC licenses and we know and understand the beverage laws maybe the servers should tell this to all customers unless he made that decision because we were not ready to order food. So with that being said we decided to leave and go elsewhere. I'm not asking for apologies or coupons or anything. But if ur trying to spend a good afternoon and have a couple of drinks this is not the place. And the one star is based on the service today because we have loved the food and service in the past. Have a good afternoon.
This is the best Mexican food I've ever had.
This was also my first trip to Houston. We went on a very busy day and did have to wait awhile for a table, so keep that in mind that it gets really busy. The staff was very kind and accommodating to us. The food came out hot and fast. I got the puff taco and it was amazing! My fiance got the fajitas and he really enjoyed them. I also got the tres leches cake which was amazing I will say it does get crowded and the tables are small. I do wish the noise level wasn't as high because it is hard to have a conversation with the people at your table due to how loud it was.
Outstanding.
To us this is the best Mexican place in the whole area. One of the best I’ve been to in my lifetime. Fresh homemade tortillas, and grilled fajitas are the thing to get. I’ve been coming here for years. We make special trips to Houston just to come here. God bless this establishment and I would highly recommend.
A perfect TexMex meal
Our group had a first time visitor to Texas, and we had one shot to show him true good TexMex. Lupe Tortilla’s was recommended, and we’re so glad we went! Alongside the first timer we also had several life long Houstonians who also enjoyed their meal. Our server, Chris, was southern hospitals at its best. The food was excellent but what stood out most was the visit to the table from the owner/chef. He gave a taste of beef fajitas on their flour tortillas and told us a bit about the restaurant. The flour tortillas are so thin and tasty, and the corn are good too. We enjoyed queso, guacamole, tacos, and the star of the meal - beef fajitas. We’ll be going back!
Horrible food , good service
Well. It was new. We came we ate. We left . This would be the Kingwood Northpark location. Stale chips. Awful salsa. Combo dinner. Enchilada tamale. Taco. Ordered a guacamole tostada a la carte. Guacamole tasted like lemon. Beans and rice. Very very average. Great service. Ambience great. Nice patio. Wouldn’t recommend nor go back. Packed with people. Not sure why…..
is there a 0 star? tonight was horrible.
the amount of disrespect came from every waiter... was different from a standard restaurant in the area. My waiter seemed to be doing the best he could.... but I could not be more disappointed with the whole establishment. This used to be my favorite place, but I am very disappointed with how it has changed. We got there at 7:30 pm.. left at 10:30 pm. not because we were lingering, but because of the continuous false promises of the wait. I had a 3 year old that was very hungry (expected) that did not even get chips until 9 pm after I asked many waiters to help while the wait was so much longer than what was told.. no water for the kids except what I had in my bag after a long time of waiters refusing to help get us even started at our table. We have been to busy restaurants for 30 years and always give the benefit of the doubt they are trying their best... but this is just bad management. Plus, we always respect waiters no matter what.. and we were walked all over. Of course we gave a good tip, because it was not our waitor's fault.. but wow. I can't even list all of the ways we were disrespected and I had to be the teacher of the sandbox because no one was watching their kids throw sand in my Son's eyes and be mean to him.. our "new friends" would stop. as I asked them nicely but no parents cared to even watch while we were there. Kids will be kids, but no one at the establishment acknowledge the rules that are posted while we were there this time.
I hate to admit I live 10 minutes from here for the last 9
I hate to admit I live 10 minutes from here for the last 9 yrs and never visited. Lupe Tortilla is a Houston institution, but I'm not big in TexMex, so I haven't tried any. Fast forward, and I wanted fish tacos and my usual spot closed within 10 minutes of me placing my pick-up order. Thankfully, Lupe had an open kitchen at 9pm and fish tacos, score! The tacos were good, grilled with a side of cheesy rice. I was skeptical about the rice, but it was actually good as well and didn't have a lot of cheese, just enough to know it was there. The plate came with two generous size tacos, and I was definitely full, but not stuffed. Someone else picked up my order, but I can't advise on the Tuesday night vibe, but I plan to check it out more often.
good food in a loud place
place is loud. You are not having a conversation. The food is great. The service is excellent. We were a group of 32 and they handled us well. I got puff tacos. They were good but needed salt. There is none on the tables.
Been comin her twenty yurs! Love it! Best margaritas ever.
If they make ya talk funny thur guud. Best staff best atmosphere. Enjoy the nighttttttt

Amazing food! Food came very quickly, bathroom is very clean, a tray fell off of a table when I was in there. It was not very loud.
Food was delicious.
I recommend the fajitas for two. Goes great with cold modelo or a skinny margarita. The waiter was very attentive. I went on a Friday night of course there was a wait. The overall feel was very hustle busy. The tables were a little too close for my overall comfort. Also the noise level was high but to be expected when alcohol is being served. So be aware.

Our party of 6 was seated quickly at ~8:30pm for our group dinner. We enjoyed our margaritas, and the queso flames do with beef fajitas was outstanding. The Chicken "soft tacos" we're really enchiladas basically and were loaded with shredded, moist chicken. Wife liked her Shrimp tacos. Service could have been better though.
Restaurant is always packed but somehow the food always
Restaurant is always packed but somehow the food always arrives promptly. The restaurant is large but features several small dining areas, so the place appears to be small. The chips and salsa is definitely house-made, and even comes with a bacon bean dip that is to die for! I've been coming here for about 8 years, and have always gotten the taco salad because it just too good! It's the best taco salad I've ever had anywhere. I've only ordered it with the taco meat, so I can't comment on how it is with the other options, but I would definitely recommend this dish! My partner ordered the enchiladas, and he widened his eyes the moment he took his first bite. I come to this location just because I have lots of memories attached to it, but I've heard great things about their other locations. The only downside is the parking situation. There are several other restaurants in the area and they all share the same parking spaces, so it can be a bit tricky.
---Dearest Reader, I write with the utmost urgency.
Lupe Tortilla remains a 5 star. However, I think I have stumbled on to a hidden gem on the menu. For so long I've been wishing someone would review this dish. That day has come, destiny is mine, this is my Excalibur. Behold their Mexican Pizza. This is not your Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza, this is the real deal. I'm not kidding y'all, the crisped flour tortilla passes the "no flop test" yet doesn't eat like a tostada. It's an amazing crust and holds up to all of the ingredients. ---Until my next discovery, Mitchell

Awesome Tex-Mex
Thanks to TripAdvisor, my wife found this place for us to eat that was near our hotel. In business 35 years. With the chips, they brought out a bowl of salsa and a bowl of beans. Both were awesome. My wife really enjoyed the all veggie gluten-free quesadillas on corn tortillas. The guacamole was excellent. I had the 3 enchilada combo with traditional favorites: cheese with chili con carne, beef with salsa roja, and chicken with salsa verde. All were covered with a generous amount of cheese. It almost made the cheese enchilada a redundancy. We arrived around 4:45 p.m. and it didn't really get busy until we left at 5:30. Our server didn't rush us and brought out a drink refill twice before I had finished my drink. Yes, they have Diet Dr. Pepper. We talked to a native Houstonian later and she affirmed our perception.
Best Mexican food bar none!
The owner or manager gave our table a free sample of the beef fajitas. I would have never ordered it, but it was so delicious. I ordered it. I don’t even like steak. It was tender. The sample was medium rare. My steak was cooked a little more. I would have preferred the medium rare over the medium. The best tasting fajitas I have ever had, and I always order fajitas. They give a bean salsa. Excellent! Best beans I have ever eaten. I would not have thought to used as a salsa. I ordered a flight of seasonal margaritas. I really only liked the mango. It was very tasty. The pink grapefruit was okay. The Black Barrel was too strong for my liking. It didn’t taste like a margarita at all to me. The portions are large. You can’t go wrong eating here!
