Very good, portions could be better
We were a party of six on a rainy Wednesday. We had various starters.. onion soup, escargot, croquettes and everyone was pleased with those. For entrees, several people got the corvina and corn and it was good and adequate portions. Others had the rabbit and a duck breast special (not the duck leg on the everyday menu) and it was good although skimpy with the sides... a smear of mashed potatoes. There was an issue with one diner's dinner and the restaurant handled it professionally. We had looked at the pricing ahead of time and had no problem with that, for the quality of the food, but portions could have been better. Various desserts were good and portions were reasonable. Service was friendly and professional. Also note the place is BYOB which their web site does not seem to mention.

Sub par food seasoned with arrogance. Bias and hostile management. The dishes that contained meat were inedible akin to a door stop. Their excuse for the lousy meat was that I didn't know how to eat it and we were not "upscale enough clientele" to eat there. Everyone should have access to a beautiful dining experience without being denigrated. Shameful.

Excellent food and service, I had the Endive Salad, French Onion Soup, Mussels and Creme Brule. The French Onion Soup made with Gruyere Cheese was the best I ever had, and I will usually have it if it is on a menu. The Maine Mussels were the second best, the best still goes to Fishy Fishy in Kinsale, Ireland. The Pomme Frites were excellant, I usually and Ketchup; asked for it but didn't really use. My wife had the French Onion Soup, Trout, and the Creme Brule. Paul was our waiter, he and his team did an excellent job. It is a BYOB, so bring your choice of beverage. Best dinner out in a long time, that includes Parc in Rittenhouse Square. A quiet intimate setting to be enjoyed! Great job.

The atmosphere is very nice. We were seated at a table window. The meal started off fine. I had the mushroom bisque (soup). It was the best mushroom soup I have ever had. For the main course I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the filet mignon. I ordered my rack of lamb medium. I even went on to say I want it pink not red. My wife ordered hers medium rare. When the rack came it was bright red. Not medium, not even medium rare, but rare. I had to send it back because for me it was inedible. My wife's filet came rare not medium rare. But she was able to eat it. What is it with chef's these days that they refuse to cook your red meat medium. It must be some sort of ego thing. Anyway the rack of lamb was good but not exceptional and definitely not worth the $65 price tag. My wife said her steak was good but not at the level of Ruth's Chris and also not worth the $70 price tag. The meal took an upturn for desert. We had the frozen grand Marnier souffle, It was excellent. We probably won't be going back We don't mind paying high prices for meals, but want to get something that warrants the price. And I can't stand chefs that totally ignore your preference on how you want your meat cooked.

Service was excellent and very fast for such a nice restaurant. It’s a BYOB and they have glasses already set for you and they pour your wine right away. Food was very well prepared and cooked perfectly.
Be the first to ReplySuperb Food!
Since I'm a big fan of the French cuisine, we stopped by La Provence for lunch and were not disappointed. Enjoyed the various cheese options like the Goat Cheese on Crostini, the cheese board. All dishes were superb! Staff are friendly and service was fast. Definitely a great restaurant if you're in the mood for French delicacy.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent BYOB French restaurant
We recently had dinner at La Provence, a French restaurant in Ambler. It was a good experience. The restaurant is located in the old Ambler train station. This means it is about fifty yards from the current Ambler station on the SEPTA line. We could probably have driven to Doylestown or Warminster, taken the train and walked across the street instead of driving about 45 minutes from New Hope. They share the parking lot with SEPTA so parking is free. The restaurant is a BYOB, which is a great benefit. We say in the glassed in porch type area, giving us a good view of the train and people walking into the restaurant. I enjoy people watching. I started with the salmon mousse. It was quite good and topped with Kaluga caviar. It was about $18. I followed that with Bouillabaisse, which ran $50. That was a special that night. I enjoyed it. The bread was excellent too. My wife started with goat cheese salad. I think it was about $14 and followed it with Moules (mussels) and French fries. I think that was under $30. She enjoyed both. We skipped dessert. Service was excellent. We brought a red and a white wine. We opened the white wine first. When the bouillabaisse arrived I asked to open the red. He asked why we I’d ‘t stick to the white wine. I explained we were giving it to him to she with the kitchen staff. (It was a nice Chablis.) The restaurant has lots of rules. There is a dress code. No flip flops, sweats or hoodies, yoga clothes or tee shirts permitted. No gym wear. The menu has rules too. Slipping across three credit cards is the maximum. Splitting an entree costs $6.00 extra. It’s all spelled out. Are there negatives? Prices are a little higher than I might have expected, but the BYOB policy is s major plus, lowering your bill by a significant amount. We would return.
Be the first to ReplyHigh-end costly disappointment
Overall impression - disappointment. This restaurant was recommended by several family members and friends as one of the jewels in the area... Disappointed. We were a party of 6 - 3 couples. I will start with seating. We were seated in the area that is, possibly, used as outside seating during summer but now it is covered by the plastic wall and heaters were effective but.... active railroad right behind those plastic wall and airwaves from passing trains are very disturbing... And host did not tell us about that extreme. Who's brilliant idea was to use that area as seating? We did not come to get a scoop of extreme, we came to (supposedly) high-end French restaurant.... Keeping in mind there were a lot of other spaces for the 6 people table. Food. Another disappointment. Rib eye steak was presented as a special dish accompanied with foie-gra and some other additions, Reality: pre-coocked piece of meat from refrigerator with piece of potato and nothing else... Nobody was bothering to ask how we would like to have it: well-done, medium... Another dish: pork shoulder.... in a form of stew and several pieces of meat in a lot of sauce covered by fried dough.... The appetizer's plate (!!!) with 3 cheeses - 3 small pieces of each is out of comments. So, for $150 per couple we had trains running behind our back, way overpriced food of sub-standard (for the advertised type of place) quality and nothing more.... except BYOB policy. Disappointment.

I am reluctant to let people know how great La Provence is, for fear of being unable to get a reservation in the future :). La Provence was our Covid respite over the last 18 months. The owner made an early and substantial investment in creating a lovely outdoor dining experience with ample distancing and airflow to make diners comfortable. Add to that first-rate food and friendly staff and you have the perfect combination for a great evening out. As the name would suggest, the fare is French inspired, with choices leaning towards the lighter side in terms of sauces and preparation. In the many times we have dined here with friends, I do not recall anyone being dis-satisfied with their food. There are plenty of outdoor heaters so one can dine in comfort in all but the coldest weather.

Recently expanded outdoor space beautifully appointed with lighting, gardens, propane heaters, under covered roofs. Food and service still exceptional at this BYOB neighborhood restaurant.
