Kona Grill House Kealakekua Reviews from The Last Year

Update: The Kanoe Gill (Kona Grill) is sadly closed as of 2/29/24 per their website "due to unforeseen health issues". The phone number is also no longer in service. https://www.kanoagrill.com/ My intended review from a previous visit: This little dive is in an industrial area off the road and easy to miss -- but it is terrific. We got here on the recommendation of a local resident and were really amazed at how fresh and tasty the food was. We got grilled ahi fish burgers, which were served with fried homestyle potato chips. Excellent all around. The menu is small, they take their time preparing the food (if you are in a hurry and expect fast food, this is not the place for you), and the service is friendly and helpful. Outside are two picnic tables but we had to eat in our car because the tables were occupied. Facilities include a port-a-potty but no place to wash hands -- something to be aware of during COVID or if you bring young kids, for instance. Cash/credit cards accepted.
They don't answer before 11.
The food was really tasty. I was recommended to try the smoked prime rib that's served on Fridays. I love meat so I naturally had to try, and it didn't disappoint, too much. The piece of the meat was big. The flavor was very strong and very salty. They didn't provide au jus. The crab mac was fabulous. Try it - it's a little expensive but worth it.
Great find for local food in Kona
Great find while we were visiting the area. The lobster crab cake was delicious and a great portion size. The key lime pie was a wonderful treat. Highly recommend!

This was the best food we had while we were in Kona! The fish was fresh and the sides were all really good. Highly recommend!
Quick Summary Pretty solid grilled fish and poke options.
The main attraction and what I loved here was their desserts. The lilikoi cheesecake is phenomenal! One of the best I've had. Everything is made to order so expect a wait. Plenty of parking available and outdoor seating. Food- 5 stars The furikake salmon was incredibly juicy and flavorful. The catch of the day of ahi was decent. Poke was solid as well and perfectly balanced and not too salty. The main highlight was the dessert. The lilikoi cheesecake was spectacular. I will come back specifically for the cheesecake in the future Service- 5 stars Fast casual spot. Do expect about a 20-30 minute wait because the food is made to order. Everyone was friendly and helpful Bottom Line Pretty solid grilled food and poke options. The lilikoi cheesecake is a must-try!

We have always loved kanoa gril so it was a no brainer when we booked them for our rehearsal dinner and on of our wedding desserts! Chef Bryan blew us away with an absolutely incredible dinner. We had amazing sashimi, poke, smoked prime rib, furikake chicken, rice and salad and finished with their incredible lilikoi cheesecake. Everyone loved every bite and we were thrilled at the service and attention to detail. Chef Bryan was such an easy guy to work with and takes a lot of pride in his food. We also ordered their chocolate macnut pie for our wedding. If you haven't tried it you absolutely must! We would absolutely recommend kanoa grill for a great meal either in their restaurant or for your special event catering!
The food is ono.
Ooooh And their cheese cake is really good. I've never had a bad meal here.
Poke Bowl supreme shareable for 2, $24 dollars.
Great portion sizes in comparison to other places around. Excellent crab cake! Plenty of shaded outdoor seating, and ample parking. In the one week we stayed on the big island, we had to go twice to Kānoa Grill!

The workers at Kanoa Grill are always so friendly, and the food is always a hit! I came around 4:30PM on a Friday, and there was lots of poke left. I've come a previous time, and the poke and desserts have been almost wiped out. I got a poke bowl with the furikake salmon and hawaiian style ahi, which also came with a scoop of rice, mac salad, and seaweed salad. The poke was super fresh, and the furikake and limu toppings were so delicious. We also got a side order of the spicy girl ahi, and that one was also really good. I would definitely recommend the poke bowl if they still have some available. There was lots of parking and a tent outside with lots of tables to enjoy our food.

Discovered this place after a beach day and craving some poke. Little did we know this would be a gem we would come back to again. First off my review always considers portion size as much as taste and enjoyment, Kanoa has both. A Poke Supreme bowl will run $22 and includes Mac Salad and rice which is pretty standard both in price and portion. With that you get to choose two poke options rather than one and this is well worth the money! I couldn't choose between so many tantalizing choice, but for my pallet the Spicy Ahi and Wasabi Ginger were $$$ (amazing and different). It was the perfect size bowl though I could have taken a bit more Mac salad it was good too! To top it off and as a bonus with the Poke Bowl Supreme you get a homemade crab cake that takes up some square footage of the box but is worth it! Our only knock is one of pure selfishness in that they are completely closed on Wednesdays and Sundays which forced us to go somewhere else and they close at 4:00 but that's standard for Poke places. At the End of the Day of the four poke places we have visited on the big island this takes my crown for best Poke, People, and Price!
