Galvin La Chapelle London Reviews from The Last Year
Fantastic Vegan Food
I was gifted a voucher for the vegan seven course menu with a glass of wine and had the best time. The food was delicious, really flavourful. Firstly, we were offered complimentary canapes, which had a wonderful parsnip puree that was very tasty. These were followed by warm bread and olive oil, which was also complimentary. The seven course menu consisted of light, small dishes and by the end of it, we were pleasantly full and not uncomfortably so. The courgette flower, green tomato chutney and Daiquiri courses were particular favourites. The staff were so polite, the service was second to none and the restaurant itself was lovely. What was also nice, was that we did not feel rushed at any stage and were able to stay as long as we liked, even after we'd finished eating. There was also no pressure to pay for any additional extras and no issue with our just drinking water after our glass of wine, which was included in the voucher. A service charge of 14.5% was added to the bill, which we were happy to pay as we'd had such a lovely time. I would absolutely recommend for anybody thinking of visiting.
Pretentious expensive poor food
I found the waiters description of the food to be so pretentious that I really had a hard time understanding exactly what the food would be like. The food was of a poor quality either no taste or overly flavoured with unpleasant textures. The duck I had was tough and very hard to cut. We had been given a 3 course gift voucher from a relative. We ask to pay £40 to upgrade to the 4 course set menu. This was refused. So we ended up paying £66 on top of our gift vouchers. Which included £5 for a glass of still water and £20 service charge. The rest consisted of 2 small glasses of wine and 2 coffees. We got the impression that customers with gift vouchers were somehow second class, even though the amount paid was the full price of the set menu. Also, that they were sold with intention of getting dinners to spend as much as possible on extras. I am sure the relative who bought the gift would be upset if she realised what had happened. When the staff moved away from pretentious scripts about the food and were just themselves they were nice and the service was good. Also the building itself was nice
Amazing food and wonderful service
Went for the a la carte menu. The crab ravioli was superb followed by by the venison dish cooked to perfection. Can’t wait to go back
Truly Excellent
We visited Galvin this week and we were blown away not only by the food, but the ambience and the staff. We had a seven course tasting menu which was superlative in certain courses and overall excellent; the flavour combinations and the presentation were of the finest quality. In comparison to some of their peers we have eaten in we would put Galvin in the upper echelon without question. We were seated at the perfect table for a quiet dinner for two, but not out of the way or ignored by staff. Indeed, we had excellent service from Arnaud, stepping in as a sommelier and guiding us to some very interesting wine choices, given his more elevated position he made us feel we were his focus every time he came to the table, very impressive. The particular attention paid by the section manager, superb, and a truly excellent young waitress, who we understood was on a development curve that evening was a perfect balance of friendly engagement and attention to detail. I must highlight her service, I am so sorry that I can't remember her name, but she was so engaging, could answer all of our questions and was simply lovely for someone early in a career in such a restaurant. Our experience from booking with a small hiccup, trying to provide our card details to secure the reservation, through to paying the bill could not have been better. A sense of caring and valuing you as an individual customer shone through and we will certainly be returning when we are next able to visit that area of London. Reply Forward
Not as good as it was...
Disappointing lunch, food undercooked, service stiff and place feels tired, not good value, even with the lunch specials
A fantastic lunch experience
Had a fantastic lunch 25th February 2024. We each went for the three course lunch with carreffe of wine fir £59. Great value at a Michelin star restaurant. The venue and ambience is wonderful. Shout out to all the staff, especially Gabriel the sommelier.
Sheer bliss
Sheer bliss. I recommend that visitors choose the 7 Course Tasting Menu and add the extra option of "selected Sommelier wine pairing". The wines were, each and every one of them, excellent. The food was outstanding but the occasion was given added lustre by Gabriel, our Sommelier. He was superbly informed and knowledgeable, charming and articulate. Our Sardinian-accented server (didn't catch her name) was also delightful, warmly cheerful, and attentive. Other servers and senior officers were also highly professional and pleasant. I won't go through each of the courses: they are available online. Suffice to say that each and every one of them was top class.
Worth kicking the sh@t out of your wallet I promise!
An amazing experience. From the moment you arrive and they take your coats at the desk, you are made to feel special. The food is amazing, the service is the best you’ll ever experience. It is a little on the expensive side ( the cheese board was probably not quite worth the money- nice but very pricey). So my advice would be to know your wallet is going to take a good hiding but go with it as it is worth it. Ps- the semelier is very good and the wine was lovely.
A great experience but very pricey
The food was great. The service was immaculate. We choose a flight of wine to go with the menu. I did feel the tables were rather close together. The only down side was that it was incredibly expensive- and we have had better for less expensive.
Just perfect as always.
Three out of the four of us were celebrating birthdays and this being one of our favourite restaurants in London, we used the vouchers we bought last year in order to celebrate. All of the dishes from the Menu du Chef were exquisite. We were really spoiled by the staff. We started with a glass of champagne on the house and of course little treats afterwards not just for the birthday people but also for myself (I wasn’t celebrating a birthday) but without the candle. Thoroughly enjoyed it and we shall be returning.

At Galvin La Chapelle I experienced the worst service of my life. After being seated, a waiter did not come to our table for 50 minutes. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu and didn't receive the 3rd course until after 2 hours of being seated. The entire meal we were neglected by the waitstaff, which included a buffoon of a sommelier who spent more time coughing all over our table than he did describing the wines. When he finally made a wine recommendation, the wine that showed up was sickeningly sweet and tasted nothing like his description. The 3 dishes that we did eat were mediocre at best, and far below the "Michelin" caliber we expected. I will never come back here and advise you to spend your evenings and money elsewhere. A true embarrassment to fine dining.
what's not to like about this establishment? Certainly
what's not to like about this establishment? Certainly delivers on its 1 M star. We intended to do the tasting menu, but then decided against it as there were several shellfish items that I couldn't have - and I didn't want the veg substitutes. Besides, the a la carte menu had several of the items we wanted to try anyways - so we decided to go with that option - and get 6 items that we could share. Drinks were excellent! The food even better. Beautifully laid out, and delightful to taste. The only gripe would have, if you could call it that, is that the steak dish just had a bit too much going on on the plate. While the steak was amazing, and paired well with the foie gras, there were just too many additional flavors of the sauce (loved it!) and the individual vegetables. The additional, small beef tip piece completely stumped me - though I enjoyed that as well. Service was impeccable - attentive, but not overbearing, nor intrusive. Couldn't fault them on this front. Certainly well worth the visit.
