Foreign Cinema San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Very lovely restaurant with great food and service.
The staff is warm and the owner is even more so.

We did not sit in the room with the film and I wish we did but it was still cool inside without seeing the film in the back round. The food was very delicious and I would go back to try a few other things they have to offer.
A true gem of a place.
It is as good as time I went when it first opened its doors. The staff was bright and energetic. There was no rush with our table. The server thoughtfully made some suggestions all of which were excellent. I love their Martini's with blue cheese stuffed olives - a love which led me to leave my car in the garage and summon an Uber for the trip home. Just love the place.
Excellent food, wine and service! Everyone I know has eaten
Excellent food, wine and service! Everyone I know has eaten here and loved it. We will be back for sure
Lovely place! Very popular.
Reservation is highly recommended. We ordered salad, chicken, and French toast. Everything was delicious. The drinks are great too! Reasonably priced comparing to other places.
Review is long overdue - Came here for my birthday in
Review is long overdue - Came here for my birthday in November after this place being on my list to try for so long. Reservations can be tough to get especially for an early-ish tine slot so make sure you are up to date on their reservation system. The ambience of this place is seriously so beautiful! I love the idea that you can sit "outdoors" where a portion is covered and the other half isn't but there are heat lamps to keep people warm which I appreciate. There is also indoor seating as well. That night they played "Catch Me If You Can" so that was cool to see projected on the brick wall. As we sat at our table, the host, was so kind and bubbly (Ashley). Foreign Cinema also gave me a cute Birthday card to celebrate my special day. This evening we ordered: - Warm Acme levain sourdough bread, housemade cultured butter, sea salt Can't go wrong with fresh bread and butter. Delicious! - Duck Liver mousse, blackberries, frisee, toasted pistachio, grilled levain Duck liver melted in your mouth and the light sweet flavor of the blackberries was such a great touch! It was a little rich for my palate but still very delicious. The S/O ate it all - Monterey Bay calamari, clams, mussels, shellfish-curry leaf broth, shoestring potatoes, aioli Honestly, my favorite of the night! I LOVE seafood so this dish was very delicious! The shoestring potatoes on top was perfect. Savory and salty. YUM! - Madras curry sesame fried chicken Beautiful and extremely flavorful dish! Definitely filling as well. - Five-spice duck breast Duck again was very tender and full of flavor. The additions to the plate were great pairings with the duck. Dessert we got the affogato and the creme brulee sampler! Amazing! Great way to end the evening. Definitely will come back!!!
Tried them out again after a year and unfortunately, it was
Tried them out again after a year and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish, again. The customer service was abysmal, with staff displaying a complete lack of attentiveness and courtesy. Despite the empty promises of a short wait time, it took an a whole 1hr for our food to arrive, leaving us hungry and frustrated. To make matters worse, the seafood we ordered was clearly not fresh, tasting stale and unpleasant. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience.
I loved the Californian twist especially on the mole.
I think it overpowered the wagyu however. Service and ambiance was great for us!! However overheard the table next to us where the waiter/kitchen messed up/mixed up their drink order and food order for the same person. Location is not great so definitely Uber! Drinks were really good, espresso martini was strong haha.
Came here with my best friend before an event as I had
Came here with my best friend before an event as I had heard great things. We were the first folks seated and our server from the jump was rude. We brushed it off as just opening and after some time ordered a couple drinks. The appetizers were delicious. We had the cheese and the calamari as well as the schoolyard bread. The main course meal is very limited and I chose the pasta dish. To be honest, a five year old could have done better. For $30 this meal was a joke. Luckily my friends pork chop was delicious. I don't eat pork but took his word. Our server continued to be rude but treated others around us much differently. When I returned my plate not once did a manager come to our table and say anything. Needless to say I will not be back.
What a Wonderful Place
We were fortunate to get a booking for our one free night in San Francisco. Our table was in the main open air courtyard. The staff were so nice and friendly but not pushy. Despite being 8pm and open air, the heaters around the court yard made it very comfortable. Our meals were delicious - mains and deserts. Highly recommend.
A Must for Brunch
Wow, for delicious menu options, this is fantastic. We shared the fruit pop tart and then I had the Champagne French Omelette with truffle. So good! We are definitely going back the next time we are in town.
Unique… exceptional and different !
Picked the end of December for a drive down from Sacramento to Los Angeles along the west coast, on the beautiful, incomparable US Coastal Highway 1. This was along anticipated, 36-year dream plan to experience that coastline up close… Of course, the weather and our airline (Southwest) both conspired to screw things up royally !! It rained every day of our 10-day vacation except the last, and when we were to fly from Seattle to Sacramento, the airline industry had a meltdown, leaving us stranded at SeaTac at 5:30 in the morning. Well, we couldn’t give up, and rented a car and drove 17 hours through pelting rain to get to CA and assume our planned itinerary. Wouldn’t advise anyone to try this !! San Francisco ! Another stop-over, while rushing pell-mell down the rainy coast, and we made it in time for our dinner reservation after checking in for a little rest and refreshment at the Union Square Hilton a couple of miles away. Foreign Cinema is located in the historic Mission District, one of SF’s original theater & cultural districts, and has been a landmark since 1999, earning multiple accolades. Lots of stories and ancient legends hang around this neighborhood. It’s crowded by day, but the incessant rain kept everyone in hiding. We had to walk a couple of blocks from where we parked, there was scarcely a soul, living or otherworldly, in sight. In the rain and semi darkness, it was almost hard to find the entrance. It looks like an average, unassuming two-story store, and indoors, the magic begins. The space is split up into several large and informal areas, sized for small or large groups and private dining rooms, reminiscent of the past, but very much alive and vibrant... Part of the space is shared by Modernism West, an art gallery.. There’s usually a movie playing on the double-height walls of the central space or the other rooms... classics with the golden moguls of Hollywood & Europe, from the golden age of the silver screen. The atmosphere and cuisine are “country urban rustic” with a “generosity of flavor and experience” as described by the owners… it comes together with the local environment and the living community, and has survived the pandemic while shutting down completely, but taking care of their employees through that terrible time ~ as “the world went to zero.” We started with a carafe of 2020 Gamay Wild Soul Beaujolais ($40), with a serving of Cara Cara & Dates ($18) accompanied by the Bread Service and a Butterscotch Pot de Crème ($17.50 together) and enjoyed the fresh, chewy and crispy breads with the fruit and creamy butterscotch instead of the usual butter that most places offer. This was “different”, as promised, and it was good to relax and let the Gamay take its course, relaxing us after the day’s rainy drive from Gualala. For mains, we had the Five spice duck breast ($35) and Grilled Akaushi Wagyu bavette steak ($40). Both are not to be missed if you go to this fine establishment. The duck is redolent with roasted cherries and the blackcurrant juice, and the steak is sublime with the fingerling potatoes, Spanish onion and dripping with jus and salsa. Just amaaaazing ! The room we were in did not have a movie playing, but there was one in the adjacent hall and could be glimpsed and heard. One doesn’t really have to watch the movie like in a theater, but it’s there for the atmosphere and effect, while lingering over the incredible flavors and chatter from the other patrons around you. Go for it, if you’re in the District – definitely. Overall… at $175 plus tip for the two of us? Well worth the stop and walk in the rain.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
