Dan & Louis Oyster Bar Portland Reviews from The Last Year
I actually ordered raw oysters for delivery and was
I actually ordered raw oysters for delivery and was pleased they were fresh and tasty (not the enormous Pac NW oysters with no flavor. I ordered salmon chowder and it was also quite good. A piece of bread or crackers would have been nice. Unfortunately the oysters Rockefeller were inedible. Too salty and far over browned. Overall, for take out, it was a very nice meal. .
Such a great spot! Oysters were super delicious, drinks
Such a great spot! Oysters were super delicious, drinks were perfect, the staff was friendly and kind! Was not expecting such a steal on a Friday but here we are! We never come to china town either and now have a new reason too, as well as spotting a few other restaurants we're excited to try!
Decent happy hour! $24 for a dozen.
They were fresh oysters, mid sized - not the best we've ever had but good enough for $2/per oyster. I thought they could've been chilled a bit more. Regardless, good service on the patio!
Looking for oysters on the half shell in Portland? Then
Looking for oysters on the half shell in Portland? Then this is the spot. An old school vibe with great service. We went for happy hour and stayed for dinner. The shrimp poboy and the chowder were excellent, the calamari was good too. The Martini was dirty just like my husband likes it. I appreciated the Prosecco in the individual bottle.

Excellent oysters, fantastic liquor bar, and wonderful people. I took my granddaughter here several times, and she always loves the place. One of my favorites is the oyster Parmesan. You won't beat it anywhere else I'm always full when I leave.
A Gem in Downtown PDX
My friends and I used to go here before watching bands downtown in highschool and I just went back today for lunch. The staff were very accommodating and the restaurant is so charming and welcoming. I ordered the Caesar salad with salmon and this might be one of my favorite Caesar salads I’ve had in Portland. I would love to go back and spend some more time and order some more things off the menu. My friend also loved her food. It’s one of the oldest restaurants in Portland and I loved all the pictures and relics of old PDX. We had a lovely, attentive server as well. I will be trying to frequent this place more and try everything on the menu. Bonus: super reasonable prices that kinda shocked my friend and I. If you can’t make it to the coast just go here!
Amazing oysters, and the history of this place is INSANE! I
Amazing oysters, and the history of this place is INSANE! I highly suggest taking the time to look at everything on the walls, and looking up the history of the Brother Jonathan ship - whose wheel is mounted in the front foyer. I am thoroughly impressed with this place, and I don't know how much more "support local" you can get!
This is my favorite place in Portland.
It has a ton of ambience, great customer service, delicious, food, and wonderful drinks. If I had a month to live, this is where I would go for my last dinner.
We visited for a birthday dinner.
The reservation was made two weeks in advance, but clearly they weren't prepared for us. This place is a BAR with oysters. I wouldn't suggest ordering anything else. The ambiance is good, considering it's been an oyster bar for 100 years. Service is TERRIBLE. They were obviously overwhelmed, and our waitress laughed at us when we asked about our entrees 60 minutes into service. Our waitress couldn't have been more rude. Maybe she's an owner? I can't explain why she would walk away while being asked for our food. We made the mistake of ordering some of the higher end dishes, given that we were out for a special event. The chioppino was horrible!! Tomato soup with overcooked calamari and a couple shrimp. I would never, ever come here again. If you do, get a beer and oysters. They can't do anything else. Total waste of 300 dollars for 4 people. So many better restaurants in the area. This place looked better during the day? Not a dinner venue. Do not expect good food or good service. Get a cocktail, some oysters, and get out lol

My Grandfather Portland Judge Jacob Kanzler loved Dan and Louis' Oyster Bar in the 1920's and '30's, and so do I in 2020's Robert Kanzler Lancefield
We visited Dan & Louis Oyster Bar during their Happy Hour.
We went specifically for the oysters. We also made a reservation, but when we got there, there were plenty of tables available. We got seated immediately and got our drink orders taken within minutes. The Happy Hour prices seemed pretty good so we ordered a beer, the 2 orders of the oysters on the half-shell, calamari, and fish tacos. The restaurant was warm and inviting, definitely had a nautical vibe to it. We were seated near a corner window, which was nice since it was a rainy evening in Portland. Our food didn't take too long to come out. The oysters were delicious. We enjoyed them all! The presentation wasn't the best, which I know is a big deal for some people, but it isn't important to us. We care more about the flavor, and we were pleased. The price was amazing, of course, for Happy Hour. The calamari was good, and the fish tacos were okay. Overall, the ambience, the happy hour price, and the food, make it a place worth visiting! I would love to come back for more oysters and try more items from their menu. I'm keeping this place in mind for the next time I'm in Portland and craving some good raw oysters!

We ate at Dan & Louis Oyster Bar for the first time and the food was exceptional. We started out with the steamed clams, a bowl of oyster stew and a bowl of clam chowder. The starters were served with freshly warmed bakery bread and butter. The clam broth was buttery and had just the perfect amount of garlic. The oyster stew was seasoned perfectly and had five very large oysters. The clam chowder was flavorful and had a nice consistency-not runny and not too thick. We also shared a shrimp Po'Boy that was nicely filled with lightly breaded shrimp and dressed with tasty remoulade sauce. The portions are generous and the menu pricing very reasonable. Dan and Louis will definitely be on our A-list the next time we are back in Portland.
Great portland tradition.
Reasonably priced, small portions wide variety. The service is friendly and the vibe is that of a old time favorite
Angelion visiting Portland currently.
Looking for a good place to eat and this place had great reviews. Now I know why!!! Great family own restaurant waitresses and bartenders are very friendly. Ordered 4 food entree and all four were a hit. The clam chowder was rich and creamy the chowder bowl was huge and they aren't stingy with the clam and potatoes. Fish and chips were Awesome and tasty too. Louie's salad was fire too. Also ordered two drinks and the presentation and drinks were amazing. All around a great spot to visit. Lots of history! Friendly staff and great food!!! Credit is due we're it's deserved and this place exceeds the expectations!!! Michelle and Aubree!!! Thank you.
excellent
we returned to dan/louis oyster bar for lunch yesterday, as we wanted to see the decor downtown, and visit portland luggage to buy something....we sat in the bar area, and ordered an estrella jalisco lager, and a decaf spanish coffee......next we shared a salmon chowder and each had a salmon louie....the staff/bartender is the best!...she was in festive garb and her charm and humor helped with how busy it was at lunch.....she put on a fine demonstration of the fire with the spanish coffee......we love going here for the vintage building and excellent drink/food....the oyster shucker was very busy too....thx so much!
Nice restaurant in interesting surroundings
The restaurant in the old town has a very good menu for oysters, especially fish dishes and a good selection of beer and wine. The restaurant is very comfortably furnished inside and also has outdoor seating on the terrace. The prices are reasonable and there are very good happy hour offers. The staff are very helpful and open-minded.
Amazing time
