This place does not need my stars.
The service and the food speaks for itself. I walked right in with no reservation but I was there during the low tourist season. I heard that the line wraps around the corner at the peak of summer so reservation will be highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed my seafood dinner here. They served the freshest catch of the day on their seafood platter for GBP35. I was thoroughly satisfied with every bite of my meal. It was huge portion for one but I ate them all! The taste of the ocean and slight brine on their langoustine, mussels and salmon were divine. Till today I still dreamed of having it again. For drinks, they ha a great Skye beer selection and of course, whiskey

It took us four nights to get into Cuchullin, but it was worth the wait. The food was fresh, delicious and unique among the other places we ate at in Portree (no slight on any of them--we had wonderful dinners around town). We sampled four different dishes, from scallops to steak, and all were prepared with care. The soups and salads and sides were as good--the salad was the best we've had in Scotland, crisp, with a bright dressing and great greens. The staff was friendly and accommodating, willing to let our small group lounge without making us feel we needed to go. All in all, we wished we could have had another meal at Cuchillin, but we're glad we got one great one.

We stopped here for a quick bite to eat on the evening while we were doing laundry in town. They have your standard menu. Good size portions. Super quick service. Good prices as well.

Cuchullin is an awesome place! Had dinner there and everything was fantastic. Our waitress went above and beyond making sure our experience was great. Every staff member was welcoming. Anyone on the isle of Skye should make a point to visit this place
Be the first to ReplyAn awesome small gem in Portree, Isle of Skye.
Our first night in town (a Wednesday) we went to go after seeing it on our walk around town but they had an hour and a half wait. We were really intrigued about that so decided to put a reservation in for the following evening. We both got the scallops and they were absolutely phenomenal. Service was great and we both loved how small and quiet of a restaurant it was, made even better knowing we were enjoying fresh seafood just steps from the water. Ambiance was on point. Writing this review because I hope others try it out and also so I have record of just how much we enjoyed this meal with the hopes of going again should we ever return to Isle of Skye.

The BEST in town I'd say. Must try!!Next time I'd try the seafood chowder. It looked delish!

The food was ok but the service was very slow and we waited a long time to get a table, order and get the check. We were not told that you pay up front and sat for a long time trying to flag someone down. We would not go back.

This is one of the most popular restaurants but doesn't take reservations, so you need to stand in queue to get in. I saw a line of people waiting the night before, so when I noticed that nobody was waiting outside at the beginning of lunch time I immediately went inside to get a table. I was seated immediately and within 15 minutes the restaurant was filled. I ordered the seafood platter for one (£34) and was disappointed to learn that they didn't have the langoustines, one of the 3 items supposed to be on the seafood platter. They substituted that with scallops, which were delicious and served on a large platter with a piece of salmon filet and many mussels. The salmon was cooked exactly how I preferred - cooked to perfection with salt without any sauce. The boiled potatoes and small salad that came along complemented this very healthy and delicious meal!

We chose this restaurant based on yelp reviews and for the seafood platter. We arrived early and did not mind the wait in line before it opened to get a table as they will not take reservations. We got a great table, and then felt rushed from the very start. They wanted us to order quickly even before drinks. Right after our drinks arrived they brought our seafood platter. It was not bad, and it was fresh, but the service was awful. After getting us served so quickly their mission was to get others served quickly as well, and not to make sure we had everything we wanted. I can't recall any other restaurant where we have had such poor service. It was the only bad side I g experience we had in Scotland during our 3 week tour. The langostines were delicious.

Great little restaurant for dinner in Portree focusing on seafood. We came here based on the recent reviews saying that they were walk-in only and opened at 5:30, so that if we showed up around 5:15 with our two kids, we could sit down without waiting too long or needing a booking (reservation) to do dinner in Portree during the height of the summer tourism. That was really good advice. At 5:15, we were first in line, but by the time we were able to sit down at 5:30 there was a line of ~10-12 parties and the line didn't go down much the whole time we were there. They were happy to make the penne pasta that's normally only for lunch for the kids which was a really nice thing to make eating as a family better. The pasta sauce on the penne was only OK, but that didn't stop the kids from eating almost all of it.I got the seafood platter which was salmon, mussels and scallops on that night. It was pricey at £34, but totally worth it. The mussels were as good as I've ever had (and plentiful), while the salmon and scallops were both also delicious even if they weren't the most amazing I've ever had. The small salad and fingerling potatoes that came with it were also a nice touch. My wife got the steak, which she said was good, but not nearly as good as the seafood platter. The chips (really french fries) that came with it were very, very salty and mostly wound up going to the kids. They had a few local beers that were uninspiring, but did a better job pairing with food than being beers on their own. My wife got a blueberry and lemon gin and tonic that was not for me, but she seemed to enjoy. The desserts are probably what knocks it up to a 5 star restaurant from wavering between 4 and 5. We got the sticky toffee pudding, the whisky and oat ice cream, and the dark chocolate tart. The toffee pudding (which was closer to cake) and the ice cream were the winners. The ice cream was just spectacular and the bits of oat in it gave it a texture and complexity that was really, really nice. The toffee pudding was much lighter than you might expect with almost a loose sponge texture that paired really well with the vanilla ice cream and the butterscotch sauce. The dark chocolate tart came with a tart sorbet and raspberry sauce over a bit of a "crust" and the thing worked better together than individually, but wasn't quite as good as the other two desserts.

No dinner reservations in Portree? No problem! Cuchullin is walk in only, currently serving dinner starting at 5:30. We took note of this and arrived around 5:15 to make the first seating. It was well worth the wait. They have a full bar, including local gin and a featured cocktail with gin, blueberries and lemons - tasty. Service is friendly and efficient with leisurely pacing. The soup of the day was butternut squash, which was good but not spectacular. The surf and turf special featured a T-bone steak and scallops - it was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. The sticky toffee pudding and flat white coffee were sublime. This was as close to a perfect meal as you could ask for. Get there early, enjoy your meal and thank me later!

We arrived in Portree yesterday evening and had no dinner reservation. As luck had it, this restaurant was walk-in only. We waited outside for about 20 minutes before being seated. Ordered the seafood platter for two. They run out of Langoustine and we got the scallops instead. It came on top of a heap of local mussels and 2 slabs of salmon and 4 potatoes. The scallops came with a tail of roe attached and it was the best scallops we had! I'm not a big fan of mussels but these are sweet and tender, baby sized, and a lot more palatable than the mussels we had in Northen France. Didn't have the heart to order dessert as people were lining up outside again. Will come back when they have the langoustine!

Stopped in for dinner on the Beautiful isle of Skye and enjoyed a delish bottle of French champagne with their fresh & perfectly steamed mussels, soup and the grilled salmon. This is a wonderful spot when in Scotland!
Be the first to ReplyThe quality doesn't really match the price.
The steamed mussels we ordered is very salty. Also we ordered drinks but they simply forgot it.
Be the first to ReplyProfessional service and delicious dinner.
I had the sirloin steak which was nicely seasoned and well prepared.
Be the first to ReplyTasty food although not the best service.
Staff was friendly but a little slow and we ended up with our starter coming out at the same time as the mains. The baked goat cheese in phyllo dough starter was very delicious though with warm, creamy goat cheese well paired with pickled shallots and sweet pepper sauce. The haddock fish and chips were quick nice as well.

We heard you need to score reservations in Portree during the summer if you ever hope to find a restaurant with availability. I booked this 2 weeks in advance- a friend had been to the owner's other restaurant and loved it so we thought we'd give this one a try. Food was solid but not amazing. If service had been better, I might even go 4 stars. But we waited an eternity between dinner and dessert, water and wine went un-refilled for stretches.Tables had come and gone who sat at the same time as us. Maybe they had an off night or our corner table was in a server no-man's land??
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped here for a lunch.
Excellent food. It was well proced for what we got. The menu is very similar to Sea Breeze. In fact, owned by the same person. We ate at both and both are great choices. Very tasty.
Be the first to ReplyThis was probably one of the top 5 best meals of my life.
Salmon with crushed potatoes in some kind of citrus hollandaise was amazing. Wonderfully quaint atmosphere to boot. Exactly what you'd hope to find in a place like Portree. I'd recommend reservations if you have a bigger group.
Be the first to ReplyIf you are a hungry man in the mood for seafood, come here.
Fresh and delicious. My friend could even finish his chips after he got done with the fish.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing lobster dinner.
Wine was fantastic. We didn't have the mussels, but they smelled brilliant!Only complaint was that we had to flag our waitress twice for another glass of wine.
Be the first to ReplyYes, you must make reservations or eat late.
I asked my hotel to make them for our second (and final) night and we were good to go. The food was good - not exceptional. I had the haddock (fish and chips). The roasted chestnut and squash soup was good too. I expected more judging from the reviews though. The service was excellent and servers very nice.
