Antoine's Restaurant New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
Love love loved it
We loved everything about this place, the service was exceptional, food delightful and historical ambience amazing.
Only reputation. Not worth it.
More fame than substance. Servers uniforms correct. Menu complete. Food not so much. WAY expensive for what it is. Dress code is a joke. Shorts and t shirts plentiful on Sunday brunch.
Slow service. Mouse running around the dining room. Manager didn't seem to care much.
A total embarrassment. I am a Nola local hosting family from another country to celebrate a graduation. Wanted to give them a wonderful experience for dinner, so we booked a private room. 20 minutes before we got water because the waiter said he had another party and couldn't see us yet. Another 25 minutes before bread. Another 30 before we could order appetizers 45 minutes between appetizers and ordering entrees. Twiddling our thumbs. A few entrees came cold. Others we had to reorder because they never came. The lamb was good, though. To top it off, during entrees, a mouse started to run around the private room. We called the manager, he said he hasn't seen a mouse for the entire two months he's been working there. Also said we would have to evacuate the room for maintenance to clean up the mouse. We got out of the room without finishing dinner. The manager offered another table but said he couldn't discount anything. Like I said, a total embarrassment. There are a lot of places to choose from. Don't go to Antoine's. I never will again.
The Matriarch of Creole and Cajun cooking
Antoines is the oldest continuous service restaurant in the USA since around 1840’s. Classic Creole and Cajun dishes with lots of taste and great preparation and presentation. Service was wonderful again and a highly recommended place. It would have been our #1 place but after Revolution dropped to #2 in a tie with Galatories.
Upscale dinning
This place is amazing! Make a reservation and enjoy an upscale dinner. Our waiter, Christian, provided exceptional service! Very impressed. The atmosphere is elegant. Not a pair of jeans in sight. Dress your best when dinning here. The dinning room was nice with antique chandeliers and beautiful chairs at each table. The charbroiled oysters are definitely a must have for an app. So flavorful. I had the filet and it was cooked to perfection over mash potatoes and asparagus. It was such a good cut of meat. I had the bread pudding for dessert. I love bread pudding and this one is up there with the best I’ve ever tried. The raisins were a nice touch. Overall I would highly recommend if you’re looking for an upscale nice dinner.
Bottomless mimosa brunch!
Had a fabulous brunch with friends here! We had the pleasure of having the lovely Fairy as our waitress. She is a true angel and made our visit so special, she even sang me an early happy birthday - what a voice! We took advantage of the $18 bottomless mimosas and our glasses never went empty! We also enjoyed the soufflé potatoes, asparagus bisque, shrimp & grits, eggs Benedict and bread pudding. Everything was delicious! Fantastic service from start to finish. Definitely a must visit when in New Orleans!
Be sure to order the devil's brew.
Antione's is rich in history and continues to provide quality of service and delicious food. It is pricier and fancier if you're in the mood to dress up for dinner and spend some time with the range of appetizers (my favorite was the oysters bienville) and selection of gulf seafood or a couple of turf options. Portions are enough to feed a decently hungry person, especially if they order an appetizer or a salad.
Great experience!
This was by far the best meal we had in New Orleans. We had a great experience at Antoine’s. My husband and I heard a lot of great things about it here so we made reservations for a Friday night. All of the staff were efficient and courteous and made sure everything was great. The food was outstanding and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The asparagus bisque was really great as was the baked Alaska at the end of our meal. I definitely recommend - I can see why it’s been around since 1840!
I really really enjoyed my lunch there I went off the $25
I really really enjoyed my lunch there I went off the $25 prefix menu and it was delicious it started with the asparagus bisque which was phenomenal had the soft show crab with asparagus and onion rice which I've never had before and it was delicious and then they give you bread pudding which was absolutely wonderful would I go back here again absolutely great great restaurant
I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here.
Our server, Lita (? I hope that's correct) was amazing. She was extremely patient with our party of five and was accommodating when 3 more joined us later for dessert. She had a detailed understanding of the menu and our questions and offered wonderful suggestions. She even gave us a historical overview of the restaurant and its various dining areas and wine cellar. I had the grilled pompano fish with lump crab meat. The fish and crab were so fresh. Cooked perfectly. I thought the onion rice was unique. More flavorful than expected. Sadly, I did not take any photos.
Service is good.
Food was very disappointing. This restaurant has lived on it's laurels too long. Don't waste your time or money. Not sure where they get their chefs from.
Great place.
The Pompano and baked Alaska were very good. The service was tkp notch. Jaiden and Noah did an excellent job.
Perfect service.
Total class. The history of the restaurant was so present in the whole dinner experience. A very special red fish with crab meat and shrimp was done perfectly. I am so glad I made the effort to go to Antoine's.
Nah, not it.
Tldr; waiter spilled a drink on one of our guests, food took ages to arrive, and it was extremely mid and overpriced. We came in as a large group expecting a high end dining experience, especially given the dress code. What we got was so lackluster, and by the end we just wanted to leave ASAP. Drinks - just ok. Someone ordered a New York sour and was given a whiskey sour instead... Food - edible. Bread was not warm/crispy. Escargot was perhaps the only good dish, garlicky and buttery. The Oysters Rockefeller had a strong celery taste and unappetizing gray cast that for me didn't quite work. The fries were stale (also where was the ketchup), and the Pampano Pontchartrain entrée was comically underwhelming. Uninspired plating and flavor profile made this worth nowhere near $46. Service - greeters had a mixup and sent me to the wrong table when I arrived. Then, a waiter spilled a cocktail on someone in my group and proceeded to clean it up rather slowly, barely issuing an apology. On top of that, food took forever to arrive. We waited for a good hour and the waiters seldom checked on us. At the end, they told us to explore the rest of the restaurant, since it's also a "museum" - but by then we just wanted out. Interior was dressed up to look like an old fine dining venue. There were tons of empty tables on a weekday evening so the space felt a little cavernous and sad. Total cost per person was absurd given how disappointing every aspect of our experience was. We spent almost 2.5 hours here, most of which we spent waiting. Save yourself and look somewhere else for a good meal.
My husband and I made reservations for Antoine's at 7:45pm
My husband and I made reservations for Antoine's at 7:45pm on a Monday. It was our first time at the restaurant, but it easily became one of our top 3 favorite restaurants in NOLA. I learned that the restaurant has been in the same family for 6 generations now. I definitely felt like the place was historic. There appeared to be two dining areas, and we sat in the bigger room towards the back of the restaurant. Suggested attire at the restaurant was business casual. Unsure if it's strictly enforced like other places that require men to wear a suit jacket for dinner, but people certainly dressed nicely at Antoine's. For guys, I saw lots of collared shirts. Service was fantastic. The food came out in a timely manner. Our server, Latesha, was the best. She was highly personable and attentive, and I felt like she went above and beyond for us. I loved everything I ate. We kicked things off with the French onion soup and "2-2-2" (3 styles of oysters, 2 of each). The French onion soup was excellent and reminded us of Paris where we lived for almost a month. I had no idea that Oysters Rockerfeller were invented at Antoine's. I enjoyed the 3 styles of oysters, but I would go as far as saying that the Bienville were my favorite because of the peppers with pimento cheese. I was tempted to order another serving of 6 oysters just in this style. Appreciated how big and plump the oysters were. My husband got the Shrimp Creole and I got the pompano as our entrees. We kept swapping bites since they were both delicious. We wouldn't typically order 2, but we got 2 desserts since we couldn't decide on which to get. We got an individual serving of Baked Alaska and the bread pudding. Solid bread pudding in a rich caramel sauce, but the baked Alaska was out of this world. The meringue was perfectly made. One critique is I would've liked to have more cake in the baked Alaska.
It was a factory.
Food was ok and service was what you expect when they do that kind of volume. Would not go back because NOLA has so many good options.
The food was boring and so uninspired, both appetizers and
The food was boring and so uninspired, both appetizers and main dish. I expected so much better.....Really disappointed. It was our one fancy meal....would never eat here again. There is such better food in NOLA.
Classic good service and flawless food
The food was flawless! We also enjoyed stellar service by Lida (sp?) that was the perfect balance of attentive and inobtrusive. Table staff went above and beyond to make the experience special and ensure our senses were delighted. It's such a treat to experience classic, team table service and Antoine's does it so well.
INCREDIBLE restaurant!!
WOW! Incredible ambiance, incredible food and our waiter Brian made it an unforgettable evening. Definately would recommend to anyone visiting NOLA.❤
Great dining experience at a beautiful , historic
Great dining experience at a beautiful , historic restaurant ! Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere ! Our waiter , Myles , was excellent . He was very knowledge about the amazing history of Antoine's and went above and beyond in answering our questions and making sure we had a wonderful experience . We will definitely return and highly recommend Antoine's for an exceptional New Orleans dining experience !
Left feeling very happy with our experience.
Our server Brandon was very welcoming. Food was fresh and filling. Ambiance was very old world. Definitely worth the price point.
Must do in NOLA
We had brunch at Antoine’s and highly recommend as a must do in New Orleans. The ambiance is lovely and we enjoyed the food and drinks just as much. The blueberry blintze appetizer is to die for. The lobster Mac and cheese is so creamy and yet on the lighter side for a pasta dish. The seafood omelet was delicious and the Antoine’s salad was perfectly fresh and flavorful. We ended the meal with the baked Alaska and it was a very fun experience. Our server was very attentive and shared some of the history of the restaurant.
Brennans was busy so tried Antoine's for lunch.
Disappointed in the food. Long time landmark in Nola - was excited to try it but the food quality was what you could at any good restaurant in any major city. Place is large and we sat in the secondary dining room. Old style service but again, little value in food. Just a bucket list check mark.
We had a great experience at Antoine's! Our server was
We had a great experience at Antoine's! Our server was Myles and he was the best waiter we have ever had at any restaurant ever! After our meal he took us on a very detailed tour of the restaurant and showed us everything from the ashtrays the owner collected to the prohibition era alcohol. We had no idea this was such a historic and significant restaurant. It was great to learn about it from someone who had such passion for the history of Antoine's! The food was great too (of course!)!
I rarely give a fine dining restaurant a 1-star rating.
In this case, the food was 5-star. The server, Miss Latisha, was 10-star, the ambiance was 2-star and the management's inappropriate response to a problem in the restaurant is a minus 10-star ... balancing this rating to a 1-star. I've had this dinner reservation for several weeks to celebrate my 70th birthday during my first visit to New Orleans. Antoine's presents itself as fine dining with a required dress code (business casual jackets and collared shirts for gentlemen, no athletic wear, beach clothing, baseball caps or flip-flops), You might assume this suggests business casual ladies attire and appropriate behavior. Antoine's did not seem to consistently enforce this expectation. Upon first arriving, we had to ask to be moved from an extremely noisy dining room to the front, much quieter dining room; that request was quickly granted. While dining in that main dining space, we were surrounded by families and groups who were very pleasant to be around as they all exhibited mature fine-dining behavior until a large party of about 12 young ladies (and I use the term "ladies" hesitantly) were seated at a large round table in the front corner of the restaurant. These young ladies were obviously out to have a party and to include everyone in it. They shouted loudly at each other and carried on like people who had no dignity nor manners. In comparison, there was a table of about 8 young gentlemen who were seated near the main entrance and they were beautifully behaved, enjoying drinks, food, and each other without being heard across the room. The young ladies were so loud and rude that other patrons in the restaurant who sat near my table were visibly unhappy with the situation. My dinner guest became so bothered by the situation that she asked our Server if Management could ask this group of young ladies to be quieter because they were so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk, while seated beside each other at the same table. Our Server couldn't actually address the situation but said she would ask her Manager to address this. The Manager came to our table and seemed to defend this table of loud partiers. He offered to move us to a quieter area which seemed absurd because we had already been moved once to a seemingly quieter area and we were in the middle of eating our entree while this table of partiers were only having drinks. My friend told him why his suggestion didn't make sense and that he should address the problem at that table because they were disturbing other diners. The Manager expressed his frustration with us and finally went to the table of young ladies to speak with them. This whole situation of bad management response ruined our dining experience and we paid the check before having the dessert we planned. Let's remember the image Antoine's presents with their published dress code expectations, the beautifully appointed dining room, the price point on the menu, and the well-trained Server. This image and what I hoped to have for a milestone birthday celebration were not the same. Antoine's made a horrible first impression. Tomorrow, I'll be dining at another New Orleans high-end restaurant and don't expect I'll have this same type experience. Antoine's is well-known in cities far away as I've found through comments from friends. But from this experience I can tell you that no matter the standards they try to set, the delicious food they serve, nor the quality service from the actual Servers can compensate for the poor management when asked to resolve a problem. Additionally, as I sat there and watched people come in and be seated, I realized Antoine's dress code was more of a suggestion and not serious. I saw people come in without jackets, one gentleman wearing flip flops, one wearing beachwear (shorts and shirt with tropical print); I only noticed two gentlemen leave because they might have been turned away. But I saw more people seated who were inappropriately dressed ... clearly not business casual or for fine dining. And to give the reader a point of reference, our bill for 2 was about $250 before gratuity, what I would expect to pay for a fine dinner. My solution to this unfortunate situation is either some serious management training or this Manager's employment termination.
Pompano dish was delicious--really enjoyed it.
Their bread pudding was tasty also. Service was attentive and restaurant reminded me of a different era...really does feel like the 1800s.
I heard such great things about this place and was so
I heard such great things about this place and was so excited to try it. I ordered the lamb chops and my husband ordered the filet. The lamb chops literally had no meat on them. I'm not kidding maybe a minuscule bite per chop. I couldn't believe it. It was so disappointing. My husband had the filet said it was ok but not worth the price either. Overall a big let down. We left feeling underwhelmed. On a positive note our waitress was nice.
Not quite the same.
We had been here several years ago (pre-Katrina) and considered it the best restaurant experience we had had up until that time. It was OK this time, just somehow not as special. I started out with a Sazerac drink, which I had never had. I didn't know it had absinthe in it but that wasn't their fault. The drink was served without ice at room temperature and was very dainty. I then asked for a Coke and it was syrupy and funny tasting. Finally, I ordered a Heineken (no draft beers) and that was fine. This did not happen to us (here but at two other places on this trip) but to the couple next to us. They bought the entree right on top of the previous course. This should not happen at a restaurant of this caliber. The Oysters Rockefeller were fine, very spinachy, and I wanted to try them at a fine restaurant and now I have and feel no need to do it again. The escargot was OK, not the best or worst. My wife enjoyed her shrimp appetizer served cold. My wife had the redfish and states that it was excellent. I had the seafood gumbo, which was fine. When we were presented with the bill with the recommended tips (which I still think is tacky but I guess I'm fighting a losing battle on that one) their suggested tip calculation included tipping on the tax. Come on, People! We know we're in and expensive restaurant and we're prepared to pay. But show a little class. That's not done by trying to covertly squeeze another couple of dollars out of your guests.
Average cuisine in a beautiful setting
The restaurant is beautiful to look at and the staff very attentive. The food was good - but not superb - considering it’s one of the more well-known places in New Orleans. The onion soup was one of the better dishes. The mushroom bourguignon was watery and the mushrooms slightly undercooked. The restaurant had run out of crème brûlée so we had the bread pudding which was great. I still do not understand American service where plates are collected while other people are eating. It makes you feel rushed. You should be able to relax at a restaurant, not have the bill presented to you while you’re halfway through dessert. Speed at the expense of quality.
we've waited all week to get a 1-star meal.
we flew in from LA and made reservations here to hear and see about its rich history and ambiance. when we got there the lady at the host desk was a little rude. she asked for our name and time , we told her we were 2 minutes early and she just sucked her teeth. we decided to let that go. when we were getting seated we got seated in the booring front room next to a windows when we asked for 1 of the 11 dining rooms inside , they agreed but didn't deliver. when we got seated our waiter and older gentleman named jack i believe was beyond rude. i had to asked 3 times about complimentary bread. we started off with the oysters (2,2,2) 2 of each and they were ok at best. Half way through our starters our waiter took the oysters off the tables and said your entrees our coming, being it's our first time here we thought he took it back and boxed it. we got gumbo which was "warm" and i asked for hot sauced and he watch me wait there for about 5 minutes to tell me the they ran out of hot sauce. mind you this is a saturday night dinner . my wife got the pompano and i orderd the fillet med rare. she also orders a side of lobster mac and cheese. the fillet came out over cooked , medium and dry. 2 bites in my wife pushed her plate to the side because the pompano had a super bad "fishy" taste . the lobster mac and cheese had a odd sweet flavor . i told our waiter about our food and he said that's how we make it and walked away. all in all we spent $260 on a dinner for two. here's the catch we didn't finish our meal at all and we waited for our waiter to bring us our food boxed . we waited and waited and when we asked he said it's too late we threw it out . we spent $260 on a dinner that was ehh, chillis would blow this dinner out of the water. 1 star for service and 1 star for taste. was it worth it , not at all. super disappointed and i feel robbed to not have our meals boxed up and crappy service. no management or chefs came out or spoke to us when we said this fish doesn't taste or smell right and the fillet was over cooked.
This is the 3 or 4 times we visit.
We love dinning in the museum. The place was awesome, make sure to walk around all the different rooms. In the old days, servers were all male dressed in suits, this times the formal feel seems to relaxed somewhat and so was customers dress code. Service remain very good. In regard to food, I hate to say, memory must have served me bad, it used to be much better. Oyster Rockefeller used to both look and taste better, use to see green and creamy texture, this time was like and old rotten spinach, no more creamy juicy texture. Onion soup was good, no problem. Escargot was fine although again the look was not very welcoming, I prefer to see some bubbling butter juice with fresh green parsley instead. Grill oyster was good, both look and taste. Gumbo was also just fine. With the main course, shrimp creole taste fine but also not very pretty presented, red fish was good, tasty but the skin & scale can be dangerous, eat with caution. Lobster Mac was well made, good cheese were use and looks good too. Finally wrap up with bake Alaska, somehow I kept thinking it was suppose to flambé, it was not, the bowl of chocolate was very generous, we barely use 1/4 of it. Overall, we still love this restaurant but the food level had gone down somewhat and especially there are stiff competition within 3 blocks, I wish our next visit will improve.
Not worth my time and especially not worth the money
Horrible service. Had to go fill my water glass several times. The young bartender could not fix an old fashion. He put cranberry juice in an old fashion. Served bread but we had no bread plates, I guess we were expected to place it on the table in front of us🤷 ♂️
This place may not be the cheapest but it is amazing in
This place may not be the cheapest but it is amazing in taste. The place has kept the ownership in the family for 5 generations! Their service was ok could have been better. The ambience was very nice, they kept the overall old rustic style but added some nice modern twists.
Great lunch
I know this place is historic so we were hopeful the food would live up and it did. Got both the Charbroiled and Rockefeller oysters...think we liked the Charbroiled slightly better but both were a quality start with an excellent little salad with the honey-creole mustard dressing. My daughters says and she's in her 20s with burger expereince, and I may agree, Antoine's burger may be the best she has had. High grade also for the shrimp and grits that the 3 of us passed around. The only thing that didn't live up to snuff were the Souffle potatos that came out flat and average. Overall, excellent visit and would certainly return. Special shout out to WALTER and ASHLEY who were fantastic taking care of us and our table.
Lived up to its hype
Despite its mixed reviews, we wanted to try this French Quarter storied place and came away delighted! We enjoyed the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer but were disappointed that the '17 Medoc special at the top of the menu was no longer available. The '16 Medoc alternative from their extensive wine list turned out delicious. We loved the Lambchops with Port Demi Glace, the Pompano Pontchartrain and Filet Marchand de Vin despite their not coming out as warm as we'd like. I enjoyed a delicious glass of a '17 Kracher Berenauslese with my Creme Brulee and sampled my friend's Pecan Bread Pudding. Big shout out to our waiter Christian, whose knowledge, attention, and stories made our evening even more special. We will definitely be back!
Very disappointing!
DO NOT EAT HERE! We had a party of 9 for dinner. Our waiter Chuck was below average at best. He was short, not helpful, and “bothered” by us at best. We did not order dessert and it showed up at our table anyway, charged for 10 even though our party was only 9. The food was mediocre, and the service was well below average. We paid over $1200 for a sub par meal. DO NOT EAT HERE! You will be very disappointed.
Almost a great experience
Antoine's came highly recommended and we already knew what we wanted to order before we got there. The front dining room was definitely fancier. The 2nd dining room was not as elegant. The whole restaurant was buzzing. No comfy booths, just tables as far as I could see. Definitely a tough place to have a conversation. There were a ton of staff. They all seemed very attentive and friendly...except for ours. Poor guy seemed a bit lost, hard to hear and to understand. I don't think he was able to hear or understand us either. Service was definitely slow. But, that was ok. The food was pretty good - I had been expecting better. For a couple of reasons...only one of the dishes came out hot. That was the souflee potatoes which were fun. The oysters rockefeller were not what we expected at all. We have had a LOT of oysters rockefeller over the years and this was not the same. If it had been tasty or appealing looking, maybe it would have been ok. Anyway, we also had the Pompano Pontchartrain which was tasty but only lukewarm. We ordered a side of the roasted carrots - the flavor was nice but they were way undercooked, had to use a fork and steak knife to cut them. Perhaps it was an off night. Went to Drago's a few nights later and had amazing oysters!!!
Food was not worth the hype.
We had a wonderful server but the food was so underwhelming. Oysters Rockefeller were mushy and the taste wasn't much better. French onion soup was decent; but how hard is THAT to mess up?! Chicken was dry and stuck in my throat. Lobster mac and cheese lacked enough seasoning to make us wonder what day God created salt, and could He not have informed our chef of its existence. Baked Alaska: was supposed to be paid for by each member of our party(8). We paid for four and had more than we could finish but endured awkwardness at not ordering for all of us. Overall disappointing and not worth the hype. If you want to eat food from 1840 then I guess you've found it.
I still dream about this brunch
I cannot say enough good things about Antoine’s. The service, the food and atmosphere were amazing. The father daughter team took care of my party like we were family. I had the classic Eggs Benedict and my & I split the potatoes soufflé and blueberry jubilee blintz. My group all ordered the bottomless mimosas. Our glasses were never empty. We never felt rushed. The brunch was about 3 hours and worth every cent. This would not be something I would do every trip to New Orleans. I would definitely go again if celebrating something special.
