This is generally speaking a great place with great servers. Very few can afford a place like this and it’s a special treat to go unless you are unfathomably rich. I hate to be rude, when we had a great evening and we are blessed with having the funds to be able to dine here. As you can tell from some of the negative reviews, it can be very disappointing when high expectations for a very special evening aren’t met. The Robata items (especially simple ones like chicken wings) are wonderful and so is the tempura. All are delivered hot. We have gone regularly since Zuma opened over a decade ago and usually give five stars, but as others have noted, the kitchen (lately) can be a little self indulgent as in being ok with overcooked fish or being unwilling to replace cucumber with avacado for someone allergic who wanted a special anniversary evening for their husband. Sadly, as with that customer who’s review I just read, they can rush the dinner in order to turn the tables quickly and beat the schedule. Sent back overcooked cooked salmon with concurrence of server but it came back again from the robata only slightly less overcooked. Did not send back a second time. Didn’t eat. For almost £500 for three would expect they’d get it right in two tries. The bar substituted Cuervo (😱headache time) for Don Julio in a £13 where the bar called for the premium Don Julio. Would not remake per the written cocktail menu. Instead offered a £23 Don Julio margarita instead of making what the cocktail menu specificed. Even if most wouldn’t catch the trick, they shouldn’t sneak a few extra pence by switching to low grade tequilla . The bar managers may be pleased with thenselves when they look at their margins, but where else do they cut corners or misrepresent and what do they lose when the customer goes to Nobu next time? The vendor (spirit vendors like Don Julio’s distributor) pay bars like Zuma via discounts for cocktail menu mentions, so that’s also not right for a large franchise like Zuma to cheat a vendor.
