Good food - but pricey
A friend we were meeting suggested this place - and when I checked the reviews, I wasn't too sure, along with the pricey menu. But - we went with it and enjoyed it. Now, the York and Albany has Gordan Ramsey's name which, sorry, is not appealing to us. However, our friend is a foodie and has eaten here before, so we upheld the booking. Good pints of Meantime ale (over £7 a pint, though, so...) and some very nice warm bread, great salted butter and delicious olives to share. All fine. It turned out our friend was not eating but my partner and I had the roast beef. It's expensive (£31 ish each) but it was, to be fair, very nice - probably some of the best roast beef we've ever had. Plates need to be hotter, though, although veg and roast potatoes = very tasty. The bill was significant and service decent. However, I am not sure why there is an optional 15% service charge. It's the first place I have noticed this. I paid it, but probably wouldn't in the future. I think it encourages businesses to pay their staff less which is no good thing. This place needs a tidy up. Decor is dated, a bit like a shabby Premier Inn in terms of the purple theme. Dirty windowsills. Seen-better-days tables (also, not conducive to the sort of higher-end gastro pub this wants to be). Essentially, we had a good lunch and it was better than expected. But - it is expensive and you can get a lot more for your money elsewhere. Ramsey needs to look at what his restaurant is offering, I think, and update a number of things.
Be the first to ReplyGreat quick meal !
We had a great meal and our waitress Celina was always available even when the restaurant was busy! Great recommendation of the JFB burger and the lemon mocktail. We will be back! Thank you again Celina 😊
Be the first to ReplyBland and overpriced
The two stars is for having a free kids meal with your order, good fries and it being child friendly. Sadly, the food was underwhelming, especially for the price point. I wish I could have seen Gordon Ramsey doing a review of this place without knowing where he was. It would have been TV gold. After a 50 min wait in a half full venue, a 17£ Waldorf salads with avocado arrived. It was not a Waldorf salad, but cheap lettuce with some small bits of apple and carrot and a balsamic vinaigrette with no other flavours. I have no idea why they chose to call this a Waldorf salad? Think Tesco meal deal quality here. So I ordered a burrata instead. Which again, was completely flavourless. It had some bits of what looked like pickled beetroot from a jar, and olive oil. No exciting flavouring, just extremely bland and low quality olive oil. Overpriced and bland. I wish I had taken photos!
Be the first to ReplyVery poor burger
Just finished eating here. No pizza on menu and burger was lousy. When I told the staff about the burger they said “thanks for the feedback”. Fully charged on the bill. No wonder the place is empty
Be the first to ReplyPoor value gastropub
Called in for lunch. Pleasant atmosphere and not crowded. Service was friendly but poor, waitress needed to be reminded that we were waiting for the food which was obviously ready in the kitchen. Quality of food very average but expensive for what it was. They changed extra for the chips that went with the hamburger! In addition there was a discretionary service charge of 15%.

We have eaten here many times, as it’s a classy place ith good food. And I had many cups of fresh mint tea, always served with just as friendly and welcoming attitude, even though it’s not great business to have groups of noisy ladies drinking tea, all afternoon. This Sunday we had a very late lunch. My husband remembered the roast beef as exceptional, and even though it didn’t quite live up to the memory, he was well pleased. At least once the missing horseradish sauce was delivered. The slow roasted pork wasn’t done slowly enough, for my liking - to my mind, it needs at least 3-4 hours in the oven, to melt away most of the fat and create beautifully soft and tender meat, and crispy crackling. This pork was just cooked, with fat still hard and - worst of all! - the crackling wasn’t crackling. No apple sauce, either. However, I was immediately offered a replacement dish, and offered a drink whilst I waited, so they did all they could to compensate. And there was no charge for the replacement dish, at all. In summary, staff was extremely accommodating and friendly, and did all they could to make up for the cooking. We will be back - and hope the regular chef will, too.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
Had an unused £50 voucher which wasn’t going to very far here so was more than happy to pay whatever add on for a really nice evening. But it wasn’t. £9 for a bowl of soup which was perfectly pleasant but nothing exceptional. Then it went wrong. Pizza turned up lukewarm. My wife never complains, she’s too kind. My fish and chips were fine but the mushy peas were also lukewarm so I sent them back to get another portion of lukewarm peas. They kindly removed the mains off the bill and were very apologetic. But as someone else said how Gordon Ramsay puts his name to this place who knows. Overpriced and average. Rest of Camden’s eateries were buzzing as we walked back to the tube. This place had plenty of empty spaces. Wonder why.?
Be the first to ReplyI can’t believe Gordon puts his name to this place
As you can tell from the title it wasn’t a great experience. It all started when the staff weren’t aware if the specials board on the outside of the building that has been there for at least a few days since I noticed it and is still there today. When i asked the staff what was on the seasonal set menu. They told us that it finished at 6pm (see the sign and this was a Monday night at 7pm). They then brought us the seasonal menu and said we could still order. The price on the menu that was brought to us had a price of 2 courses for £19.50. So I questioned the price and the waiter got the manger. He explained that the sign out the front was incorrect (it looks pretty professional snd intentional; again see the photo) and that I would be charged £19.50 as was on the menu. I complained and he said what he could do. We ordered the food and it was so bad anyway. Wings were covered in too much sauce. Like something was being disguised. The cauliflower was watery and quite tasteless, as well as the fish main also being tasteless. I really do think Gordon should maybe do a spot check of his own venues and get off TV complaining about other peoples restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyKitchen nightmare at Ramsay owned restaurant.
So my first review on any restaurant. I came here a few years back for a Sunday roast and it was of a really decent standard. My daughter and I had to grab something to eat prior to an event at the jazz cafe which is located near by. This was a Friday night around 7 pm and I was surprised to see the place almost completely empty. We sat at the bar had a nice gin and tonic and looked at the menu. My daughter decided she was not that hungry and just ordered the chips. I asked the staff member if there was anything he would recommend and he was quite perplexed. I ordered the haddock and chips. Soon after placing the order a very strong fishy smell filled the large room we were in. The dish arrived and looked fine. However when I cut in to the fish a repugnant stink off spoiled fish emanated from it. I took a small bite which i immediately spat out . My daughter did the same to confirm. I suggested to the manager that she taste the fish . No apology just said “the chef will sort it out”. We left immediately feeling nauseous from the tiny taste of this rotting fish. If Ramsay needs a place to film an episode of kitchen nightmares he needs to look no further than this place , a restaurant that is of concern to human health that his own company owns.
Be the first to ReplyBest dining experience! Thank you Damiir!
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of your fabulous team! However, a special appreciation to our fabulous waiter! Damir was absolutely amazing! Fun and memorable experience ! My friends and I enjoyed his humor and hospitality and we will definitely be back to your restaurant and make a special request for him to be our waiter again! God bless!

Although the food quality was good. I ordered the half roast chicken. I had to remind the waiter about the bread sauce which accompanied the dish on the menu, it arrived 15 minutes later. My partner ordered the seam bream with fries, again the fries arrived 10 minutes later. Most good quality restaurants would have just discounted the bill accordingly, but ‘no’ the full amount was on the bill. Not impressed at all! No atmosphere at all.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner, Great Service!
The York & Albany is a lovely little restaurant just on the edge of Camden Town. My family and I went the other night to celebrate an anniversary. The host who greeted us was extremely nice and accommodating and we found the meal to be excellent. The appetisers of burrata and the chicken wings were quickly devoured. When one of my relatives inquired about whether or not they offered calamari as an appetiser, the host was happy to check with the chef and they delivered a delicious serving for our party. Our mains were all great and made to order and we really appreciated the special touches - a "Happy Anniversary" dessert and complimentary glasses of prosecco. We've dined here a few times over the past several years and with service and food like this, we will continue to do so for years to come!
Be the first to ReplyDreadful!
Waited around 20 minutes for bread . There is no vegetarian option for Sunday roast so left with little options. One is the £13 superfood salad. This is 99% Kale and some sweetcorn, spoon of avocado and shavings of radish. The service was terrible, where they forgot to bring one of our mains, others were stone cold and forgot the wine. When you complain you are simply told they are short staffed. Dreadful, won’t be back
Be the first to ReplyBirthday lunch
I would've given this place zero, if that was possible We arranged a Sunday lunch for a party of four reasonably grown-up children and three adults. The service was abysmal. The food was terrible. They forgot to make two of the meals and messed up one of them. The roasts and fish were cold My superfood salad was simply a bag of kale poured onto a plate. We ordered £100 bottle of wine which they forgot to bring and all in all it was the most dismal 10th birthday lunch, you can ever imagine very disappointed as my family had travelled a considerable distance to meet there and we had very high hopes with it being branded Gordon Ramsay hotel. That clearly means absolutely nothing Just a name if I ever meet Mr Ramsey, I will be delighted to tell him how awful the entire day was.
Be the first to ReplyWorst experience
Oh wow it was awful. I really like Gordon Ramsey and definitely thought of all chefs his place would be the best so I was super excited to eat here but apart from the company of my friends and the quite delicious mocktail, it was appalling all round. Let's start with a tv playing sport as you enter. Fine maybe it's a "pub" But when you're charging that money, I don't want to feel like I'm in a cheap sports bar. The entire place was filthy, dirty plates and cutlery piled up everywhere, the furniture had definitely seen better days, just tatty, worn out and stained. It really has the vibe of a Wetherspoons. The toilets! Ugh! it's like what you would expect to see at a nightclub, they are clearly not checked on or cleaned regularly, floor littered. The staff were all really slow, low key rude and seemed dopey to me. They weren't on it at all. I'm veggie but have been for many years and really don't expect extra special treatment around this. I'm not precious about it, I simply don't eat meat or fish. There were two unappealing options for a Sunday. One was a superfood salad and the other a cheese and tomato pasta. They had no veggie options for a roast, okay fine. But I wanted a roast without meat. Simple. As all my friends were having the roast beef, I just wanted the same without the beef, stick some broccoli on the plate and call it a day? but it was like I asked for a ostrich egg with gold flakes. Any basic restaurant in the world can understand this but they seemed to feel it was impossible. Through gritted teeth they obliged. So we ordered and then we waited... And waited and waited. It took over an hour to arrive. This makes no sense as every thing is precooked, they just have to plate it like with every carvery. They served my friends first, mine took a further five minutes to come out. I took that personally at that point to be honest, it was embarrassing, like I had been singled out for daring to be veggie. I definitely felt bad vibes and my table were all very polite, I've worked in hospitality most my life, I treat waiting staff with respect always. I looked at my plate and my heart sunk. I don't know how they had the audacity to serve it. I would have laughed if it wasn't so pitiful. Three potatoes, four carrots, a slither of cabbage and a very dry, badly made yorkshire for £30?! They must be joking. It was stone cold, it was underwhelming in very possible way. Hands down the worst meal I've ever had. I would have been far happier with a veggie burger from MacDonald's and that's saying something. I was so hungry after, it was just a really disappointing experience and I will never again eat at a restaurant with a stamp from G.R. he's obviously very busy being famous and telling other restaurants how to behave instead of focusing on his own!
Be the first to ReplyNo allergy menu, but can cater for them
I went to this restaurant with my department for a work lunch, there were a at least 10 of us in the group. Admittedly I was a little apprehensive of this lunch before going; I’m allergic to gluten and dairy, and noticed that the website has no allergy menu or anything marked as such on their main menu. When I tried call them to get allergy menu info, I was told they would be able to cater and would send me an allergen menu. When I heard nothing back I then emailed to ask the same thing, but again no reply. Luckily the experience at lunch was a pleasant one, but I wanted to flag this up as having allergy menus can help people with allergies to see clearly what they can eat and plan in advance, and I do think Y&A should have one on their site. Anyways, when we got there, a waitress came over to me and went through the menu with me. There was hardly any starters for me to have but there were a few main meals that were either naturally gluten/dairy free, or could be a easily adapted. I went with the roasted cod, with a side of honey carrots. The fish itself was lovely; the sauce wasn’t too heavy, the fish was a nice thick portion and the potatoes were fluffy too. However the carrots were not a good idea; the sharp honey taste overpowered the fish, so if I came back I wouldn’t have that combination again. The rest of the table had a mixture of meals, but the battered fish was a favourite with those who had it. For pudding I had coconut sorbet, which was just perfect, taste wise and to end the meal with. Others had sticky toffee pudding or the cappaccio fruit with ice cream, both seemed to go down well too. The waiters did look after us very well; they were attentive, made sure we all had our drinks and refills, and took down the orders swiftly too. As there was one item in the set menu that wasn’t available, they allowed us to pick a side/starter from the main menu as a substitute if we wanted to. Also we went during a promotion on the month where we were given a complementary cocktail (or mock tail if preferred). I didn’t catch the name of it but I had the mock tail and didn’t finish it, due to its sharp lemon taste, but the alcohol version went down well with the group. Overall it was a lovely restaurant; food was very good, decor and atmosphere were nice and staff couldn’t be more attentive. As stated above, it would’ve been nice if they had allergy menus on the site and/or provided in the restaurant so that people with allergies can see what they can eat, otherwise you’re just relying on the staff, and on the off chance someone who doesn’t know the menu well ends up helping someone with severe allergies…well it could be disastrous. Despite this I do recommend this restaurant and the food.
Be the first to Replyvery warm and welcoming

Be the first to ReplyGood relaxing place to hang out
Was planning to have pizza next door but ended up in this one. Good atmosphere for a relaxing dinner and drink after a long day's shopping in London. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is very good quality and well worth it.

Recommended to go here, and was slightly disappointed. Very pricey and not good value, although food was fine.
Be the first to ReplyOur first wedding anniversary
Our first trip to Y & A didn’t go as planned! However wow did they make up for it this time on our return. As promised they really did everything and more. We stayed in the suite, letting them know it was our first wedding anniversary. On arrival complimentary drinks, a beautiful room with a little choccie surprise and all I can say is the staff went over and above to ensure we were made to feel very special. We can’t wait to go back and enjoy The York and Albany again. Special thank you to Anna, who could not do more for us. Made our weekend away one time remember. Thank you so much x
Be the first to ReplyPoor quality Sunday lunch
My son and fiancé treated me to a voucher for Sunday lunch and we visited this weekend, the starter was very nice but we were all really disappointed with the Sunday lunch. We were all disappointed with quality and expected much better for the £27 per main course. All the meat was tough but mine I was not even able to cut and out of the large 2 slices only managed 3-4 small pieces. The roast potatoes were almost just boiled potatoes and had hardly any colour and the veg was not seasoned. The gravy and Yorkshire pudding was nice. Overall disappointing but especially the meat. As I spent so much time trying to cut my meat I only had one potato and some of the Yorkshire and veg as I was getting hot and flustered try to cut the meat. The waiter took my plate away and didn’t ask if everything was ok as I had left pretty much all the meat and a fair bit of the veg. When the waiter came with the bill I did mention my disappointing so that they were aware of the issue and a manager came over and was apologetic. They deducted one of the main courses which was very good of them but it really was about the disappointing meal and service in what should have been a lively gift and pleasurable Sunday lunch in what was expected to be a good quality restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service
For our last night in London, me and my husband came for dinner. The server, Dar was excellent. She recommended food and paired with wine and both were excellent. Me and my husband could not have been more pleased. We saw she also had a table of 12 yet was still fast, accommodating and attentive. Highly recommend! (And try the Cod!)

Enjoyed a brief lunch on a very hot day Staff great A bit disconcerting when going to the loo to have Gordon Ramsey's photo staring at me!!
Be the first to ReplyLazy and poorly run by incompetent staff at street pizza
Upon arrival I realised that the multiple tries to get a table booked were wasted minutes as it wasn’t busy in the slightest, the menu offers two beers, only one of which were available, for 4pm on a Saturday I find that appalling, took 20 minutes to bring any of our drinks, which was laughable as I poured my own ‘canned’ IPA and the other drinks were refillable self served soft drinks. Lack of option, 4 different pizzas just doesn’t cut it. We opted for bottomless pizza for 4 people, quite frankly I was disappointed with the quality of food, base was soggy and the crust was tough and burnt. The first 3 slices were brought round swiftly, but waited a further 20 minutes before another slice was offered, with waiters walking past my table not offering any more to us multiple times whilst serving other tables, I had ordered 2 tomato dips at the same time as we ordered drinks when we arrived, I still haven’t received these at this point. Staff were friendly enough but seemed timid and very quiet, it came to the point where I was fed up and we had decided to leave, the service charge almost seems comedic when you put the meal into perspective because the service was just lazy and unorganised; for a restaurant with such a prestigious name attached, I was thoroughly disappointed and will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyRubbish and a waste of money
We came as a table of 15, the service was slow, food took ages and arrived cold and not cooked well at all. I’ve had better Toby carvery’s. I recon Gordon would be embarrassed to be associated with this. You go out to have a nice meal but I think my 8 year old step son could do better
