10/10 EXPERIENCE!!!!
Let me start off by saying this restaurant had CLASSIC SERVICE. This place really allowed you have a nice dinner date night. Coming from a Caribbean background The Food was great. The food had an authentic taste but still with a classy vibe to the restaurant. We had the jerk wings, coco bread, and the taste of island. Everything was hot and flavorful!! When I go to restaurants that are franchise everything is always rushed, but not here. My Husband brought me here for a birthday dinner and it was a great intimate time. The waiter was very friendly with a great attitude. I recommend coming here with reservations & great patience. Truly enjoy the carribean flavor & music, I promise if you slow down your mindset it’ll make your night worth every bite!!!!

We arrived at our reservation time of 5:00pm, the same time they advertise they open for dinner. I was surprised to see several people inside already eating. Since we had a 7:00pm show at the Straz I would have come in earlier if I had known. Our waiter warned us that he was the only one in front of house and he hoped we could be patient with service. I told him that we had 1½ hours—a normal amount of time for dinner—and he assured us we would be OK. I would have been fine going elsewhere and returning on a different day and that I didn’t want to have to rush eating. Nevertheless, it took a very long time before he took our order. The menu, only available on their website via my phone, is relatively short—normally a good sign. I got a Yah Mon Signature Cocktail with Passion Fruit. There is an option of “virgin” or “relaxed” with the second choice meaning there is liquor. I love passion fruit and the drink was tasty but didn’t taste of alcohol. I asked the server if they used rum and he said that it was wine based. An ounce or two of wine for an extra $5? The menu should have clearly stated that the drinks were all wine based. We got some of their wings for an appetizer and they were good. But we barely had time to eat one of the wings before our entrees came. I guess that’s how they figured they could save time—by rushing us. My wife had the Caribbean Chicken Platter for an expensive $39. There was chicken, rice and beans, fried plantains and a bit of slaw—all inexpensive ingredients. The chicken was quite good and flavorful. I had the Escovitch Fish, one of my favorite things to eat in Jamaica. It was a whole, small snapper for $49 with rice and beans and none of the salad mentioned on the menu (unless you call the load of cilantro dumped over everything a salad.) For that dish $49 is expensive. Similar ingredients at one of many local Thai restaurants that serve a whole snapper would be $20 less. In any case the fish was nice, but the Escovitch was way too heavy on the vinegar. Everything is very overpriced. One drink and one appetizer and two entrees added up to $115 before tax and tip. I waited a long time for the bill and had to go up to the kitchen door to get it and pay. I expected to see 20% added to the bill since the website says: “Kindly note that a 20% service charge will be included with each order to support the seamless execution of our services and maintain exceptional standards for your satisfaction.” I don’t really like enforced tipping, and usually tip more than 20%. When the waiter showed me the total on the credit card machine he said that the 20% added was for the kitchen staff and would I like to tip him an amount as recommended on the screen with an additional 20-25%. Now that takes a lot of gall. It felt like a scam and I refused. Food was good, service was bad, and the pricing was way too high with WTF tipping policies. I won’t return.

I am a foodie and LOVE GREAT FOOD!!! This is up in my top 2 favorite restaurants of all time!!! The coconut bread was extended with a to go order and the snapper stew…I slapped my moma. The fried cauliflower was like no other cauliflower that I have ever had. Each flower of the cauli had an individual crisp. Worth the wait for FRESH, HOT and DELICIOUS food!!!!
Be the first to ReplyNOT AUTHENTIC AND WAAAYYYY OVERPRICED
Pros: ambiance, service, host Cons: taste, drink options, price, portion sizes The food is not authentic Jamaican food. The servings are small. I got the carribean chicken dish that comes with curry chicken, brownstew chicken and jerk chicken. My date ordered the brown stew red snapper. The fish was good. It was a large portion. It came with one little scoop of rice and peas. The jerk chicken was baked not smoked as authentic jerk typically is. The brown stew chicken was not good. The curry chicken was ok. All three meats came with one small scoop of rice and peas and about a half cup of kale salad. I added on a roti skin for the curry. It was heavy, pasty inside and dense. They were out of plantains which was really disappointing, but they did offer another side to compensate. I ended up getting a side salad which was some spinach with cherry tomatoes, cucumber and a balsamic vinegarette. We opted for a banana pudding with rum raisin ice cream. Pudding was dry. Ice cream was minimal. The pricing is crazy. The fish dinner was $49! And the chicken trio was $39. They serve tropical juices- pineapple, passionfruit, coconut- that you can add rum too but all the rum is flavored. No Wray and Nephew. No Appleton. No Myers. Disappointing.

This looked like a hole in the wall, but once you walk inside you are met with a quaint restaurant and outstanding service! We started with jerk wings, coco bread and Caribbean meat patties. The waiter made suggestions and he was on point! We then had the Caribbean chicken platter. Curry, jerk and a sweet stew. The plate also included rice and peas, salad and plantains. Everything was super flavorful and fall off the bone tender. Highly recommend!

Honest review and feedback--this was my husband and I 3rd visit. The other 2 visits were before Covid. I was exicted to visit again. The atmosphere was still awesome! We ordered beef patty, coco bread, Jerk Wings and Oxtails entree. I didn't apprecoiate the server hovering over me when it was time to check out and pay the bill--it was weird. Never experienced that before. Typically, the sever gives you space I get it --inflation-- but prices were too high! Overall, the food was tasty.

Swindler and Hustler should be the name of this restaurant My party attended after church and mind you all of us have attended this restaurant 3 times before. The waiter/owner says for a large party we want to make sure you all are Good and not have to wait so we will give you an Appetizer platter. The platter had 1 beef patty cut into 5 pieces. 1 cocoa bread cut in half and 8 wings (a total of 16 wings, 2 beef patties and 2 cocoa bread) which we found out AFTER we got our check he was going to charge $202 for this!!! He kept the iced teas going and after the 3rd serving he said, "Just to let you know the drinks are single serve!" Lastly, we get our check and he splits it 3 ways. There was a party of 2, a party of 3 and a party of 4 with 2 babies. We had to pay for food that we didn't eat and was told to figure it out. The prior times we came we did not experience this and was served by the same waiter/owner. When we questioned him on the platter he tells us it was mandatory due to the size of our party. Reservations were made by phone and was not advised at the time. I will NEVER come back to this restaurant AGAIN. I could get better food and better prices from Jerk Hut. For the amount I paid I could have gone to Flemings and ordered a Rib Eye Appetizer and dessert for 2 people He is a swindler, sheisty and a hustler. Obviously their restaurant is suffering to have to carry on this way. I am reporting this to the BBB as well because customers should not be treated the way treated us. Now Yah Mon to that.

As soon as we landed in Tampa after a very eventful flight, we were in the mood for some comfort food in a nice calm yet home place. Yah Mon was a winner. Great food. Very nice ambiance. Curry was very good. The drinks were amazing!!! The service was personalized and stellar. Coming from DC, Jamaican food is expensive so the pricing was on par. Nothing to cry about. When I am in Tampa again, will definitely stop by again.

Nothing special about the food if you are a Jamaican. The oxtail was too salty. There was literally there peas in my rice and peas. The service was okay. We were initially told that there were no menus but the menue was online. So we pulled up the menue and order. When the bill came we were shocked about the Ballance due. When I looked at the receipt it showed different prices than what I saw on line. The waiter then stated that I went to googles page on the restaurant and not the restaurant website it self. This was not stated to us initially. Also their prices are outrageous. Six people with one desert and one appetizer with bears and two glasses of wine with each persons entree up to a whopping $500 dollars. Just way to expensive. Not worth the mo way at all.

Upon entering, the atmosphere was a little noisy with music and a large table. They seemed to be taking many covid type measures. Viewing the menu requires you to look it up on your phone. Service was a little slow. There seemed to be one waiter handling orders and payment and another person who brought your food. There was only one other table though it was a larger table. Definitely, most of the attention was to them. I had three dishes: Beef Patty: This is similar to an empanada. I was sold on this after being told that the Entree platters can take a while. Very little meat inside and not a lot of flavors. The crust wasn't that great either. Basically, I prefer empanadas more. Caribbean Chicken Platter: This came with three tights of chicken thighs (Curry, Stewed, Jerk) I got a Jerk chicken wing too. Rice and Plantains were also included. There was good flavor in all of the food though some of the chicken was a little dry. Also, the curry and stewed chicken along with rice and plantains are obviously prepared ahead of time and held. So the only thing that needs to be cooked to order is the jerk chicken and the salad so I'm not sure why they say it requires so much time. Bread Pudding: There were many reviews of the Rum Cake but I was told they ran out (even though I was probably the first customer of the day to order dessert, maybe they got a lot of take-out orders?) I got the Bread Pudding instead. The piece of bread pudding was a little bit on the small side but otherwise, it tasted good. The rum ice cream definitely had a lot of rum in it. Overall, the food was good but not the greatest Caribbean food I've had. They are quite expensive ($5 for a patty, $34 for the platter, $9 for bread pudding). Probably about 30% more expensive than they should be. Their website says they are an "elegant" restaurant, but nothing about the food or atmosphere screams "elegant" or fine dining. Maybe the pricing is based on all the reviews. Payment is via a tablet though a bit awkward setting the tip on a tablet being held by your waiter. If they were cheaper (like most other Caribbean restaurants, I would have given 4 stars.
