Nice Dinner!
Pleasant surprises with simple looking dishes. Service was good and food served within 10 min of ordering. Manager taking the order was honest in not over-promoting nor recommending too many dishes. Just that the roast duck meat cooked in 2 ways - too small a portion of meat for 2nd portion
Be the first to ReplyWORST Restaurant in K11 MUSEA
We had a reservation for new year's eve at this place. We even booked a table near the window that comes with a consumable rate. However to our dismay most of the food were already sold out, some of the items we ordered didn't even arrived because the servers were not even attentive enough to add it to our orders. The worst thing was it took them a lot of time to serve everything! It was really a terrible experience. Just look at the duck they serve it was only skin and bean sprout. This place is not worth it for the price.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience - somewhat overpriced. One dish was pure charcoal!
This restaurant was recommended to us by a Hong Kong resident and regular patron of the Ye Shanghai (Admiralty)venue. Despite booking well in advance, and requesting a window table or some view, not only was our table in the Basement section on the 6th floor, instead off on the main floor above, but we were seated in the entry corridor, with all the passing traffic as customers came and went! My only view was of a pillar! The food was delicious, with the exception of the Crispy Eel (HKD128+) which was nothing more than a pile of charcoal. Not the slightest taste or presence of ANY meat - just pure charcoal. Our HK resident friends now know to avoid this disaster dish! It was Saturday night and although waiters were attentive when they brought the food, being a busy night and due to our location hidden well away from the main dining area, it was difficult to ask for service when we needed some assistance. Such as more rice, or the vegetable dish to be served with the Half Tea Smoked Duck. Our table was not set with any condiments (sauces etc). We felt their attitude was we were only a couple of tourists not worth impressing.

Thanks to a reservation, we weren't actually seated by the window, but we had a seat where we could see the night view. Appetizers Shrimp fritters Rice with bean paste Fried noodles (looks like fried udon) Xiaolongbao Tsingtao beer The shrimp fritters and rice with bean paste were delicious. The waiter must have realized that we were tourists because he told us that it would taste even better if we put XO sauce on the rice with bean paste, but it was 50% more delicious (lol). The XO sauce is in the seasonings on the table, so you can put as much as you want. But the garlic is really strong, so be careful if you have a lot of things to do after your meal. Even so, shrimp is plump no matter where you eat it in Hong Kong. The fried noodles (looks like fried udon) are like fried udon with a light flavor, and it's a bit disappointing considering the other dishes are delicious. I recommend this place for its location, service, and taste.

Don’t go for lunch, most selections unavailable and service not so accommodating. Expensive for the portions and a rushed experience
Be the first to ReplyGood food and nice decor
The title says it all. I’d dinner at Ye Shanghai with a few friends. We ordered quite a lot of food to share. Save and except noddles with crab meat and roes which tasted rather bland, every dish was delicious. I particularly liked pan fried pork dumplings. The decor was nice and the service correct.
Be the first to ReplyA nice place for Shanghai cuisine
This restaurant is under Elite Concepts, with two branches in HK, one in Pacific Place and the other in K11 MUSEA. Offering Shanghai and Zhejiang cuisines, the latter one has been awarded Michelin 1-star status and so we decided to try it out.
With two seating period, we arrived at 6pm per request. The staff showed us to our table, which is on the floor below by going down the internal staircase. While not having the nice view on 7/F, our booth is comfortable, and I like the décor which has a chic and contemporary ambience.
We had Tea Leaf Smoked Egg 古法煙鴨蛋 ($56) for starter. The smoked egg had a light smoky fragrance while the taste was delicate and not overpowering. The egg yolk was also runny. Nice appetizer.
The other starter was Sliced Pork served with Garlic 蒜泥白肉 ($85). The chili sweet soy sauce on top of the thinly sliced pork, plus the abundance of mashed garlic, provided a feast of flavours and I like this even more than the smoked egg as appetizer.
Next, we had the soups, with me going for Hot and Sour Soup 酸辣湯 ($65) while my wife had Double-boiled Matsutake and Conch Soup 松茸燉響螺 ($128). The hot and sour soup was only lukewarm in temperature unfortunately, so while it had a good balance and sufficient intensity in spicy and sourness, I would have to deduct a lot of marks here.
Coming to the main dishes, the first one was Braised Guandong Sea Cucumber with Scallion 蔥燒遼參 ($480). The premium sea cucumber had got a nice bouncy texture, and had been braised well to infuse with the flavours from the thick sauce. The scallions further provided appealing aromas and was a good complement to the sea cucumber. A nice dish.
The Wok-fried Sliced Fish in Yellow Wine 糟炒魚片 ($228) was also quite good. The yellow wine had wonderful aromas and the unique taste was a perfect complement to the fish fillet, which was lightly seasoned. The wood ear fungus not only provided a contrast in colour, the bouncy texture was also a great contrast to the tender fish fillet to offer complexity.
The last main dish was Yunnan Ham with Honey Sauce 蜜汁火方 ($90). The bun was served steaming hot, and the staff helped us to put the ham and the bean curd skin on the bun. The ham had been steamed to make it soft and easy to bite, with the sweet honey sauce helped to balance the saltiness of the ham. The bean curd skin delivered the crunchy texture to make a enjoyable experience.
It is always a true test for a Shanghai restaurant in how they made Steamed Pork Dumplings 鮮肉小籠包 ($80). This one had a really thin skin, with lots of the jus from the pork fillings. It was a bit tricky to hold it up, but successfully transferring to my mouth without bursting it, the reward was lots of jus and the flavours from the minced pork. A good reason to sharpen your chopsticks skill.
Coming to dessert I had Glutinous Rice Dumplings in Osmanthus Soup 桂花酒釀丸子 ($42) and my wife opted for Sweet Jujube Jello 滋補紅棗糕 ($52). The soup got a good fragrance from the Osmanthus and the fermented rice, and the rice dumplings had a very good chewy bite. The jujube jello was also quite good, not too sweet and got an equally great chewy mouthfeel.
Service was good, with the staff attentive and friendly, again I would hope they could share briefly each dish on the ingredients, cooking techniques etc. which would make the whole experience so much more interesting. The bill was $1,509 and overall a fair deal.
Great view, convenient location, disappointing food and service
Wonderful location, great views if you got a window sit, however, food is ok. Some dishes are exceptional but some is very salty. Did not really expect such inconsistent cooking for the pricing they are charging.
Service is spotty. We have ordered dim sum and some main courses. End up the kitchen sends everything together. The table is not big enough to have everything. What ashame. We have to ask them to pause the service so that we can finish what is on the table. We then need to ask them to resume table service again. Waitress are not that tentative.
Not sure it's worth the price.
Food was not as nice as expected, nor the service
Food was not as nice as expected, nor the service. Only recommend the smoked egg, and nothing else was impressive.
The environment and decoration were rather good.
Staffs were mostly polite but I won’t describe them to be professional. Never introduced when serving all dishes and they won’t assist pouring tea.
In conclusion, a slightly above average Shanghainese restaurant, which is largely contributed by its comfortable environment, but I don’t believe it worths a Michelin star.
Not as outstanding as Ming Court
Despite both have a Michelin Star and both serve a hairy crab menu, Ming Court was better in terms of food with a much more reasonable price. YeShanghai's view was superb though
