This is my second time here.
The first time was many years ago. The food and service were delicious. Be sure to book a table seat versus bar seat as the bar seats don't have a back. We did the chefs table and let them surprise us. The guac was SO good. Only thing I didn't love was the fois gras. But that's an acquired taste. Also the fish tacos were just ok. I'm not a fan of battered fish tacos.
Be the first to ReplyStill dreaming about Xixa.
Came here for Valentine's Day and it did not disappoint! Tasting menu was only $55 pp. I lost count of how many courses it came with but I was stuffed by the end of the night. I had to make room for their dessert though because that espresso flan really hit the spot. Some memorables were the spicy blue crab sopes, the scallops aguachile and the prawns. However, the foie gras al pastor stole the spotlight. Long story short, Xixa blends Mexican and Asian cuisine perfectly. They are known for their carrot elote and for someone who ain't a fan of carrots, I must say these were flavored well with the right amount of sweet and savory. Their deconstructed drinks are also a must try! Can't wait for my next visit and this meal was so satisfying I've already made reservations for their sister restaurant Traif.

Very solid experience at Xixa - wasn't completely blown away, but I enjoyed it a lot. The chef's selection is really the way to go. You get to try a good bit of the menu for a great price. The pacing could definitely be improved, service was a bit inconsistent but otherwise very friendly, and the food was solid across the board with a few standouts. If I were to go again and order a la carte, I'd go for the fish tacos, the octopus pasta, and the ceviche. The pork osso busco gets an honorable mention, you basically create your own tacos & it comes with a ton of food. Cocktails were beautiful, I recommend the Lost in the Dessert if you want something that's not too sweet. Dessert was also great, I'm typically not a fan of flan but it was incredibly well-executed. The restaurant itself has a very cool, modern vibe. It wasn't too crowded when we went but I imagine it's very lively on busy nights.

Came here to celebrate my birthday and had such an amazing time! The quality of food is top notch and what really sets them apart. Our server, was amazing! He took such good care of us and made sure we always had what we needed and that our glasses were full! I just wish I lived closer so I could come every week! I will definitely be back again and again! Thank you!

Went on Valentine's day and was extremely impressed by this place. It was a pre fixe menu that night and all the food and cocktails were unique and 10/10. My favorites were the short rib, the burrita guacamole, and the best tortilla soup I've ever had. Loved the flan as well!

So, it's a regular Girl's Night dinner and one person wanted "Mexican". Xixa came up in the Yelp suggestions. The ratings were good, and the health code is an "A", so we went there. We were the first to arrive as they opened and were seated promptly near the back where there are booths. We were given menus and explained about the "a la carte" and the "tasting" menus. The menus (drinks and food) are a lot to take in and we were chatting but the waitress (host) was VERY attentive to get our order. We were also waiting for another person to arrive. As we talked and figured out what we wanted to eat, I noticed that the "flowers" the restaurant is decorated with are cotton branches in bottles. Interesting. I also noticed that the artwork is of the side and back views of nude women. Hmm. My friend eventually noticed the cotton branches and also noticed the ropes on the ceiling. Okay!Eventually, we ordered drinks and food, talked and enjoyed the music playing. A small number of diners had arrived. The food came, tapas style small plates and mine was good. Although the wings didn't look the way I expected the flavor combination was tasty. The octopus was very good. Our friend joined us and ordered the carnitas which I tasted, and it was very good. For dessert, the churros were amazing! I never tasted churros this good! As we were enjoying the dessert and drinks, we began to feel a bit of pressure to finish as the host stopped by often to ask if we wanted anything else. It was then that she told us about the time limit on dining. The restaurant was almost empty but she explained that they were expecting customers with reservations. It's alright; we were almost done. At some point during the night, we asked a staff person to pronounce the name of the restaurant. It's pronounced "Shicksa". I am familiar with the word from my years living in Crown Heights and I asked if it is a Yiddish word and this was confirmed. I don't react immediately because I usually take time to think about what's brewing.Merriam-Webster defines a Shiksa as often disparaging: a non-Jewish girl or woman. There are other iterations on the definition, but none are uplifting of women. Sometimes we move in and out of spaces and don't notice much. At other times we are compelled to dig deeper which results in wondering what the considerations were when others did what they did. "Xixa", cotton branches, women's sensual art, ropes; what were the owners thinking? Will I go back? Nope. I have too many unanswered questions.

5 stars for the grilled carrots elote, edamame, and the pineapple express drink. Service was a little slow-it's a busy spot, but food I think makes up for it.

Needed to leave a review after dining last night, with such incredible plates! The service was outstanding, they were attentive and answered questions while explaining each dish! What we ordered: 1. Tempura Fish Tacos - by far the best fish taco I've ever had, crunchy, but light with a soft fish!2. Grilled Carrot 'elote' - outstanding, different take of an elote in the best way blending with Mediterranean spices and flavors!3. Braised Short Ribs 'mole verde' - truly no words for this melt in your mouth meat and it didn't stop there! It's served with homemade ginger, scallion tacos and homemade crema, hot sauce, pickled squash, and a corn salsa!4. Espresso flan - the best I've ever had! Each dish you could tell was so well thought out, each bite so flavorful and a true experience! Being gluten free, I appreciate how everything on their menu is also labeled for allergens!
Be the first to ReplyOne of my top NYC dining experiences so far for sure.
Came here on a recommendation. Xixa's been around for approximately 9 years and offers a $55 tasting menu with approximately 10-11 chef-selected dishes. No overthinking the menu here! Come hungry because the food feels like it just keeps coming. Service was great. We were seated immediately (with a reservation) and felt like we were being attended to the entire time. Some brief specifics on the dishes we were served (without specific dish names - sorry!):Grapefruit guacamole (8/10): served with 3 different types of chips. Nice aftertaste of the grapefruit that was not too overpowering. Tanginess and spice of the jalapenos complemented each other well. Fish tacos (9/10): incredibly cooked fish. Soft, melt-in-your-mouth on the inside, crispy (but not too thick/heavy on the batter) outside. Yum!Shrimp ceviche (10/10): didn't know shrimp could be cooked so tender. Amazing sweet and tanginess to this that left me wanting more. This one rose higher in the ranks than I initially expected.Fried chicken (7/10): to be fair, this was *really* well fried. The sauce was awesome. The chicken was tender and fall-off-the-bone. But stood out a bit less compared to the other amazing dishes.Foie Gras (11/10): incredible. The sweetness from the pineapple really pulled everything today. A must have. Octopus rice (9/10): octopus was cooked perfectly. The short grained rice (?) here was plump and tender. The perfect amount of flavor - not bland but not too overkill either (which was VERY welcome in the pool of flavor that constituted this meal).Short ribs tacos (9/10): the meat fell apart on the plate. So soft and tender. The handmade tortillas were the highlight here.Artichoke dip (6/10): out of everything, this was the dish I liked the least. Maybe I was starting to fill up, but it felt a bit heavy at this point. Would have made a great appetizer, just not sure if felt like it was in the right place being served here.Green tea churros (10/10): we sat praying for dessert and were pleasantly served not one but two desserts (see below). These were so hot, soft, and fluffy on the inside. A perfect cap to everything. Flan (10/10): like the churros, this really rounded out the meal.We also tried the Paloma and Midnight in Paris. Both were excellent and had flavor profiles that meshed well with our food.Keep in mind that these rankings/ratings are really only relative to each other as I felt like the entire meal was fantastic - thus the easily earned 5 star rating overall. Left here feeling full and content. Had high expectations for this place but it definitely hit the mark. One of the servers (managers?) threw in some almond flavored infused dessert tequila at the end of the night. Will definitely be back here in the future for this place as well as its sister restaurant down the street!

One of my favorite spots in Williamsburg, nice decor and tone to restaurant. It's a small staff that is very attentive and the food is great I cut the short rib with my spoon and it was super flavorful. The desserts are also delicious and all dope twist on pony time favorites.

I was excited to come try this place out but we had a poor experience when we showed up with a large party, no acknowledgement and we were told we had to do a tasting menu. Half of the party left disappointed, we stood because we were hungry and were just trying to get a decent meal after a long day. The dishes for the most part are inventive but didnt quite hit the way we thought they would. They do make a great ceviche and guacamole. We tried a few of the entrees which were solid but tasted pretty bland. The drinks were good but overall the ambiance of the restaurant and how dim the lights are felt like we were at a karaoke room in K-town.
Be the first to ReplyXixa doesn't even deserve 1 star.
Let's list the nonsense in chronological order.1. We made reservations for a group of 8 for dinner. There was no notice that there was a maximum or a concern for the size of our party.2. We arrived and were not greeted or escorted to our table, where some of our party was already seated.3. No water was served, nor was there a food menu. When we noticed, I had to catch the hosts attention. She informed me that because we were a large party we would simply "get the Chefs' selection". At no point before was this explained to us after sitting there for more than 10 mins. It wasn't an option aside from whatever the food menu was, it was what was going to be served off rip.4. We expressed we would prefer to be able to order from the menu due to not wanting to just be surprised with whatever the Chef felt fit to serve us. We have never been to this restaurant before to even consider this option. Plus, we had no idea what we were even working with. Please see this link to understand more on Chef selections/choice and when it makes sense... (<a href="/redir?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.themanual.com%2Ffood-and-drink%2Fchefs-choice-meal-orders%2F&s=fbafffb6eb08b7ce607d1d0e93668ab0e0bc1c6a74c8d75f8198f4f1ef99ebfd" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">themanual.com/food-and-d…</a>)5. Our server comes back from talking to the Chef to let us know that if we were to split our party as two groups of 4 we could choose from the menu, BUT had to meet a minimum of $45 per person OR we could do the Chef selection for $55 per person. What????? lol I've never had so many rules and restrictions thrown at me this way.No thank you. The issue was that we weren't given a choice in the first place. We were welcomed into this space to feel comfortable enough to even consider a tasting menu. Xixa wasn't packed, we were able to make our reservation an hour before for a party of 8 on a Saturday night. Doesn't make any sense why any establishment would ever just assume people go out to eat to just have whatever food just served to them without making it like a perk or a special offer on the side. If we hadn't asked for food menus or some attention we would have just had random dishes tossed our way. It's the most lazy and inconsiderate experience I've ever had dining out. Bummer.

Came in on a rainy night so I'm not surprised the place was half empty, but nevertheless had an amazing experience. Katie (the waitress/bartender/server) does everything! And so well! She's super sweet, checked in on us more than we deserved and took care of every one our needs. At first I was a little alarmed that she was the only one there but she's so efficient and helpful that you are left needing nothing. Also she makes amazing drinks!!!! Thanks KATIE! Much love, and I'll definitely be back again!! But wait there's more!!! SERGIO! Sergio is the man!! He came over and checked on us after dinner but not only that, he offered us a delicious Moroccan Mint Flan dessert which was totally delicious. Idk what the owner is paying these people but they need a raise!!!! As I'm writing this review, Katie approached our table with complimentary almond tequila shots to pair with our complimentary dessert. Someone pinch me, this has to be a prank. The people here are too nice. Gosh I'm almost embarrassed. Lost for words.

The last time I was in the city, my partner and I had an incredible dining experience at Xixa. This spot is a low-key-style restaurant that offers high-quality and gourmet Mexican cuisine. Since it was our first time there, we decided to check out their tasting menu with the cocktail pairing and from start to end we were wowed by it. From their guacamole to their tartare everything was done with such an exquisite twist. I'm usually not a fan of cocktail pairings because I like certain drinks but this one caught me by surprise. From their unique ice cubes to their sangria everything tasted amazing! Their menu is very seasonal, which I loved. You can really tell the chef has a passion for Mexican cuisine and for creating innovative dishes.

I have never been more stuffedxsatisfied in my life than after the tasting menu here! For the price point we had an extraordinary amount of food and GOOD food too (foie gras? Woah). The servings kept coming and they were all tasty. Definitely would recommend but also make sure to wear something that will accommodate that extended belly.

Soooo good. We did the tasting menu and every single dish was amazing.

Wish I took more photos from this meal, but all I got was the cocktail. Isn't it pretty cool though‽‽ The offer of a deconstructed cocktail with margarita cubes was too tempting to pass up, and ended up being a delicious choice; the spices & fruits of the cube mixed together so well in the end. They had a tasting menu that looked like the steal of the century ($55 for 7 appetizers, 1 main, and 2 desserts - I can't see it getting better). However, we opted for a la carte, and I got the carrots elote (eh it was fine, even though that I was most excited for that) and the artichoke fundido (WHICH WAS IMMACULATE! I'd go back just for that). I wish Xixa had a bit more clout, as I live a block away from it and didn't even know it existed. However, I'm happy to keep that as my hidden gem in NYC.

One of the best meals I've had in a while! Everything we ate was good to great, and the dishes were innovative and fun. Came here with my husband for an early Valentine's dinner. Highly recommend the chef's choice. For $50 per person, we shared 8 savory dishes and 2 sweet ones. What you get is ultimately up to the kitchen, but you can request to have specific dishes or to avoid certain ones. In our case, we had 4 savories we definitely wanted to try, and one sweet we wanted to avoid, and the restaurant accommodated our request! Standouts were the grilled carrots elote, foie gras al pastor, roasted bone marrow tacos, garlic butter octopus 'en su tinta', and lemon poppyseed churros. We also had the blistered shishitos, coconut shrimp ceviche, spicy confit chicken wings, 5 spice duck carnitas, and green tea flan. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible dining experience.
When I first walked in I thought the menu maybe seemed a little too focused on every item having a "twist," especially the drink menu whose format with ice cubes was a little off putting to me. I was ultimately so wrong!!We chose to do the tasting menu, which, for $50 or so a person, was an incredible deal. We were able to customize it pretty thoroughly to include the dishes we did and didn't want, and to exclude pork. Every single thing was delicious and so unique. I have never enjoyed raw scallops before (I love ceviche, raw fish overall, and cooked scallops), but the scallops with blood oranges made me a believer. Incredible dessert. Everything A+. The one thing that was maybe a 7.5 or 8/10 was the short rib, which I must admit I rarely find to be done great at restaurants, but it was still very good.Amazing and unique dining experience and epic deal if you do the tasting menu
Be the first to ReplyI came in on Friday for a 6:30pm reservation for two.
I'm a big fan of tasting menus so I just got that with the wine pairing.First I have to shout out the staff. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and more importantly very well coordinated. The meals and drinks were also very well paced. The wiping of tables and new clean plates & utensils every few dishes was a very nice touch The tasting menu featured a 10 course shareable meal for $55 and 4 drink pairing for an additional $40. This price is phenomenal and unbeatable. The food was delicious from beginning to end and the drink pairing complimented the food very well. You will not leave hungry and the food does taste as good as it looks in the pictures.I heard they have a sister restaurant and I can't wait to go there next

Wow! This was one of the most unique upscale Mexican food experiences I've had. The food was amazing. We tried an app, meal course and dessert. They were all phenomenal. New and refreshing take on Mexican food that I had not been used to. Most other elevated restaurants serving Mexican food at higher price points are great, and they serve maybe a slightly more refined, sophisticated version. Xixa took it to another level of refinement! One of my favorite restaurants yet. The lighting in there doesn't make for the best photos but overall it felt nice, chill and romantic. Had our V-Day dinner and it was perfect. Foie Gras Al Pastor Diver Scallops & Shrimp Diablo Green Tea Churros w/ Sauces

Great value for the $50 tasting menu, loved the grilled shishito pepper and venison tartar, Foie gras melts in your mouth.Green chill cheese and tortilla chips is really grassy.Honey seaweed glazed crispy chicken wings is interesting, but I didn't love the flavor combo.Main course is snapper fish taco, the pickle on top makes it really refreshing, I'm surprised a deep fried fish can melt in your mouth like that.Truffle risotto is the best truffle risotto I've ever had, they are not shy on the black truffle and the white truffle butter, but it is on the saltier side.Tortilla with short rib is a little blend, could use some salt from the risotto.Cocktail is real strong.

Love this place with their unique offering on the menu, but don't love their Chef's Menu (Family Style required for 8 people +) sadly was forced to go with this for my birthday celebration and cannot even choose any specific dish I love.1. Scallop Ceviche2. Guacamole 3. Octopus & Chorizo stir fry - didn't like it.4. Baked Cheese - too cheesy5. Chicken Wing - dry and not good6. Fish Taco7. Ouzo Mushroom Risotto w Shaved Truffle8. Carrot - terrible9. Short Rib 10. Flan11. ChurroIt's a lot of food for $50 pp which is a good deal. However, I rather choose quality over quantity. None of the dishes i would order if I have a choice.
Be the first to ReplyXixa is Williamsburg's best hidden secret.
We did the chefs tasting menu + drink pairing. All of the food was absolutely delicious and VERY generous portions, especially for a tasting menu! $50 per person + $40 for the drink pairing is an absolute steal for anywhere, let alone in New York. The staff was also very friendly and overall atmosphere was great. We will definitely be back to dine again!

This restaurant has been added to my list of must-try NYC recommendations for all my friends who ask! I haven't had much luck with fancy Mexican. I was even let down by Oxomoco in Greenpoint, which is Michelin-starred. But Xixa, especially the duck carnitas, blew me and my friend away. The duck was crispy on the outside, and fall apart, melt in your mouth on the inside. Not any fat was left as it had all been perfectly rendered. It was absolutely divine. Everything else we got - scallop ceviche, grapefruit guacamole, drinks - was inventive and good as well! It's also pretty lowkey. If you book on Seated you can also get a nice cashback.
