Volpi's Italian Market Deli Petaluma Reviews from The Last Year
We went to dinner there last night about 6pm.
The Restaurant was busy as usual. The service was great as usual, but the food has really slipped. I had Chicken Marsala. My husband had Spaghetti and Meatballs. My side veg looked to be a pre-frozen medley of cauliflower, broccoli and cross-cut carrots. They were okay. The chicken marsala was tender, but the sauce tasted canned. The polenta was good. My husband's meatballs tasted pre-made possibly frozen and thawed. The sauce also did not taste home made and the food was adequate overall. Service and ambiance was great! I personally would not seek this restaurant out to eat here again, but if I was with people who wanted to go, I'd go and probably have soup & salad. I am also cautious when reviewing because Volpi has its place and is obviously very popular and beloved. Its just not what I would consider authentic homemade Italian.

Food came in late, I ordered chicken tenders and they were absoulutely trash, also the fries, the mf tenders tasted like kfc and they were sticky asf, also some guy kept on giving me water every time i took a sip, also he was cleaning and i acidentaly saw his booty crack, also when i went to the bathroom I saw a midget, overrall trash would never come back not even if they begged me to, also whats with all the accordions everywhere, what even is the theme and I forgot to say I wanted to ask for a coca cola but the server never asked us if we wanted anything to drink, overrall 10/10, if we are rating best trash restaurants, LOL
Volpi's Ristorante and Bar is filled with charm.
This place was build in an old converted general store. The ambiance and food is out of this world. Yes, its old school but its also good school. This is exceptional family cooked food. We haven't seen it on the menu lately but this place was known for its veal piccata. The salmon is a classic favorite. And be sure to order the minestrone soup. Parking is easy and the service is great. One of our favorites in Petaluma!
The Bolognese was top tier.
I can't stop thinking about it. We ate at the strange little bar in the back. It felt like a piece of old California. I don't remember much else, like the service, because I was so engrossed in my bolognese.
The food is not the best.
But, the ambiance, service and neighborhood feel makes it irresistible. We go often and will continue.
Four of us had dinner last night.
We took out of town guests based upon past good experiences. What a mistake. The eggplant parmesan was burned and only warm and tastes like it was old and reheated. The polenta which is usually excellent was tasteless. The raviolis were only warm and cold by the time they were finished but they did taste good. My veal portion was very small and very overcooked but the piccata sauce was excellent. I don't think they have the kitchen staff handles crowds at this time.
Mama Mia that's damn good spaghetti & meatballs.
Geez I took Volpis off my radar cuz of the many choices of restaurants in Petaluma and they have come & gone in Petaluma, but Volpis has been steadfast, so much history and I mean history, wink wink, Speakeasy in the back, look it up. But on New Year's Eve many people had the same idea, Authentic, family style, Italian Food to ring in the New Year. We started with Polenta w/ mushrooms & blue cheese, we had the blue cheese on the side cuz my guest are, lack of a better word, Boring, kidding they are my besties. Then we went for the spaghetti & meatballs, the meatballs are a ground mixture of fine meats, not excessive breadcrumbs or filler. The sauce is a creamy tomato sauce, not a dominating tomato only sauce. We added a salad. And we easily shared it all. They serve bottles of wine. And sangiovese will do fine. I'll add they bring a nice warm basket of deliciously simple but Awesome bread, it's fantastic, no lie, the foiled wrapped butter is really good too. They get their bread from San Francisco that's all the waitress would offer. The secret is sealed kinda like the old days of the speakeasy. Oh before I forget, I had to see the dessert menu & decided on the tiramisu and yes it was a generous serving, enough to satisfy all three of us. We ate a high carb meal but don't get me wrong, they offer Cioppino, meat & other seafood entrees. Oh Volpis forgive me for forsaking you. In summary, good food, generous servings, great selection, fantastic service, fair prices. Great for groups, singles, families. My only recommendations is filter the water. Tap water messes with my palate when consuming great food. I'll be back and most certainly bring your visiting friends here for the food or a drink at the Speakeasy. It's Petaluma History.
We tried Volpi's for the first time after living in Sonoma
We tried Volpi's for the first time after living in Sonoma county for 3 years, everyone has always told me how amazing it is and I needed to try it. We got the calamari which was extremely overcooked and made it very hard to eat. If you know calamari then you know it gets a rubber texture when it is overcooked. I got the chicken picatta with polenta which tasted fine but the white wine used in it had that raw wine taste. The polenta had almost a biscuit taste to me. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs which he said was good. The restaurant itself is cute, and very eclectic it has a speak easy bar in the back. Overall a very homey vibe like your parents made Italian food that night for dinner. I do not think I would go back with how.many Italian restaurants are in the area.
Went there tonight for dinner.
Everything was delicious and the wait staff was friendly, attentive, and timely. The meatballs were delicious! Hubby had the 1/2 and 1/2 special (1/2 gnocchi and 1/2 ravioli), and loved it. I had the Volpi's Pasta and it was again delicious. Cavatapi in a light lemon cream sauce... so good. Ambience was nice and comfortable.
So good.
The food is delicious. It's been one of my favorites for years. I would recommend making reservations.
Food is very good.
Tasty Italian. Service is hit and miss. Took forever to even be acknowledged by the hostess. Looked right through us for at least a half hour. After being seated another 20 minutes before we received any bread or water. Disappointing
Food was AMAZING.
Wonderful service. Clean stocked bathrooms. Get there early when they open because the line starts around 5:00. Didn't have any desert because we had no more tummy room. Can't wait to come back and eat again while we're in the area
Best service in town.
Amazing is not even good enough! The service is on point. The food is authentic and delicious. You would be a fool to not come here

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
