I like their tea very much.
They open very early so I come after my morning run and get a hot tea. The atmosphere is very nice, they always greet me at the entrance and serve the food very efficcienty. Pricing is vey much reasonable, for the quality I can even say that its cheap

Had a nice dinner here before seeing a play at Golden Gate Theatre and had a great night. The drinks are seriously so good- I racked up a huge bill just because all the drinks were so unique and I wanted to taste them all. The entrees were all well made, flavors were well balanced and tasty. The apps fell short for me- salad, rolls and octopus were overpriced for what they were. Service was great, we celebrated a birthday and the gave a free dessert and gave us a card

I was very excited to enjoy dinner at this restaurant as it was highly recommended by my foodie friend. Location:It is in the worst area on Market street in San Francisco, full of homeless people on the street. You can see the restaurant but the entrance is on the other side but it is not easy to find. Once entered, the hotel is cutely decorated as is the restaurant. It was almost empty despite being Friday night. Staff whose number outweighed customers in twice were friendly. Sometime they forget things such as bringing a drink. But attentive to other times, changing silvers for each dishes, folding napkins each time the guest stood up. Food was hot and miss with mostly miss. We opted for course dinner. Shrimp and scallops dumpling was barely edible as seafood was not fresh. My friend said his shrimp cattails smelled. Beets salad was very good. Beef steak was very tender, juicy and tasty. Chocolate dessert was ambitious but chaotic and bad- chocolate thing was chewy, and mixtures of different textures and tastes were chaotic and not well fit together. So overall, it was a disappointing experience, I am sorry to say.

The scones and the sesame bread were a highlight. However the sandwiches were not served on a two-tier plate as it should be for an afternoon tea. The tea selection was nice, however I was not impressed in comparison with other two places I had high tea at. Service was ok, very straight forward. Ambiance was gloomy for a Sunday afternoon. Very quiet, we could barely hear the music. It felt like a funeral. The room is very nicely decorated but was empty when we arrived. However they seated us at one of the tables on the hallway close to the stairs and elevators while nobody was inside. We were the only ones there for a long time, then another group arrived. It does not look like a popular place to me. We will not be back

We visited Villon before the theater and it was such a treat. The ambiance is understated elegance, we all enjoyed our meals and the broadway prixe fixe menu is reasonable priced, but the friendly and attentive service we received from our waiter Josh is what is bringing us back. We are returning tomorrow evening and are keeping our fingers crossed Josh will once again be assigned to our table. We are planning to arrive early tomorrow to sample cocktails from their beautiful bar which we weren't able to enjoy on our last visit. A solid choice for dinner in the city.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Villon this past Friday, and I must say, it was an experience beyond compare. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. We opted to sit at the bar, where we were promptly attended to by the talented bartender, Jay. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the menu were evident as he guided us through our culinary journey. Jay's recommendations were spot-on, and his friendly demeanor added to the charm of our visit. Now, onto the food - each dish was a masterpiece in its own right. We started with the apple salad, a delightful blend of flavors complemented by a surprising twist of ice cream. It was a refreshing start that left us eager for more. Next up was the octopus dish, which was nothing short of spectacular. Tender yet perfectly charred, it was a true testament to the chef's skill and creativity. For our main course, we indulged in the steak accompanied by potato gratin and green beans. Cooked to perfection, each bite was a symphony of flavors that left us speechless. To accompany our meal, we enjoyed a round of expertly crafted martinis followed by the Naked and Famous and Pisco Punch, all recommended by Jay himself. Each sip was a delight, further enhancing our dining experience. Speaking of which, I must give special recognition to Chef Jason Fox for his culinary prowess. Every dish that graced our table was a testament to his talent and dedication to his craft. In summary, our evening at Villon was nothing short of extraordinary, thanks in large part to the impeccable service provided by Jay and the culinary brilliance of Chef Jason Fox. As locals, we are already planning our next visit, eager to indulge in the culinary delights that await us. Villon has undoubtedly earned its place as one of the city's premier dining destinations, and we cannot wait to return. Five stars hardly seem sufficient to convey our admiration and gratitude. Bravo, Villon, bravo!

The food was good, service was fine, but nothing special about the food to warrant coming back. It's also in a sketchy area which is not fun to exit into post an expensive dinner :(

Great spot! Beautiful decor & kind staff! The only issue was the drink called "la Perla" it was not good. It tasted of pure tequila but did look very pretty!

Service was non-existent, food was horrible, pretty hotel/restaurant but the noise level was deafening. It took over an hour to get our order of one sandwich and when we received it the "toasted" bread was soggy and limp. Just the worst. The waiter never came back after he took our order. Seriously, we didn't see him for over an hour. I was finally able to flag him down to ask about our sandwich when he came to deliver food to a table near us. My interaction with the manager was weird and borderline unprofessional. One of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant.

Blah... so disappointed. Beautiful hotel but lacks in service. Servers clueless. The fact they close the 'bar area' and there is literally a lobby full of patrons that are awaiting going to the theater shows the lack of knowledge the managers have at this hotel. Yet there was 6 employees waiting outside as bellhops and valet (?). Nuts. Prices outrageous for the food quality.

I loved everything I ate here but the two highlights were the sunflower seed risotto and the duck. The sunflower seed risotto was extremely surprising in depth and flavor and it tasted much more complex than regular rice. Would definitely say it's a must have. The duck sausage and breast were amazing, the sausage was tastefully seared tableside and the breast was incredibly juicy, coming with buns and sauces to mix match flavors. The decor of the entire space felt extremely classy and I really really hope that it can anchor the revival of the area. Service was incredibly classy and helpful throughout and my partner and I will go back again!

From the rough and gritty exterior of the tenderloin, you are transformed to a vibey/transcendent hotel that makes you feel like you're in Hollywood. Villons interior is exquisitely decorated. The staff is a little newer but still navigates you to your hunger desires. The food is fun, extremely tasty and we were greeted with several samples gratis from the chef. The seafood tower was not as expected and the food is a little overpriced but this comes with the territory of dining in Fi-Loin.

..checked in 5 times according to Yelp! And I'm never disappointed with the service or food. Definitely my go to place whenever I'm in the city. Thanks Villon for always being consistent and for pleasing our palates with your updated menu items! Always a pleasure to show you off to my family and friends! Keep it up! Looking forward to my next visit!
Be the first to ReplyFood was extremely tasty.
The lamb dish for two was well done and delicious. Service was very disappointing. We went for an early dinner (5:30pm) because we had theater tickets. After not getting our drinks for nearly 20 mins, the server told us that they were overrun from serving 'high tea' in the afternoon. It was disappointing to hear that the business had overbooked and our dinner was affected by poor planning by the restaurant. Most likely wouldn't return.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for high tea on my boyfriend's birthday.
They got pretty busy but were disorganized from the start. There was nobody hosting or seating anyone, our server did not explain to us how tea went and was slow. Also they never really said anything about my bf's birthday after they called me the prior week asking about his name, etc. The sandwiches and dessert pastries looked and tasted great. The tea was good too, just be mindful that each person gets one type of tea for the duration of the meal.

The good food shared by five was exceptional. Ask for James, he was a wealth of information.. Such a wonderful foodie experience.

I took my girlfriends here yesterday to host my Bridesmaid's Proposal brunch. Prior to yesterday the team at Villon helped me make reservations and answered all of my party planning questions. They truly were great. Upon arrival yesterday, 40 minutes late from the St. Patrick's Day Parade I had no clue was going on, they greeted us with such hospitality and were not grumpy in the slightest over our lack of punctuality. At the table was a beautiful bottle of Champagne compliments of the Manager. Such a sweet touch and so appreciated. We ordered the bottomless mimosas which I believe were around $25 which feels like a pretty good deal for SF. Everyone ordered from the breakfast menu aside from my Maid of Honor who went full send on the buffet. She loved it and went back for thirds. I had the polenta breakfast entree and OH-EM-GEEEE was it delicious. We also ordered a ton of their french fries which tasted like they were cocked in duck fat (drooling as I type this). All of the girls loved their Brunch and loved the vibe of the restaurant even more. We got some really solid photos that I'll cherish forever and even better lifelong memories. An amazing experience to kick off all the wedding festivities this year. Will for sure be back :)My only complaint is that the rooftop bar, Charmaine's didn't open until 3-3:30 which feels kind of late. Would have loved to take in the view and order one last cocktail before we headed out.

I think this hotel is so beautiful! It has a roof top bar and a couple of bars on the first floor. I finally went to one of the restaurants to try their afternoon tea. I wasn't super impressed with the sandwiches. They seemed like they were made the day before and they didn't have any flavor. The bread was stale and the cucumbers were slightly frozen. The pastries on the other hand were fantastic. A ton of different options and unique flavors. I definitely liked the experience but I would not go back for the afternoon tea because it wasn't worth the price at $165 for 2 people. The service and ambiance was amazing.

Came here for our anniversary dinner before going to see a play at the Orpheum. It is a small space and not in the best part of town, but the hotel itself feels nice. We got the tasting menu ($125pp), which was a lot of food! My favorite dishes were the uni and the duck, both of which were excellent. The duck was so juicy and tender. I thought the only true miss was the dessert, but otherwise the food was good. Service was excellent. They were very nice in offering some complimentary champagne as well to help us celebrate our anniversary.

We popped in for drinks on a Saturday night after a seeing a musical at the nearby Orpheum Theater, and had a great time! Excellent cocktails, great service at the bar, and gorgeous, elegant decor.

We had an excellent meat at Villon in November, before heading to see a show at the Orpheum.Sadly it's been too long for any kind of detailed review, but our table of four ordered the Chef's Menu and sampled several of their cocktails. Overall impression was stellar. The food, the drinks, the service, the ambience. Absolutely need to get back here again.Oh, one negative thing I remembered - don't bother ordering the Corpse Reviver Blue.

When looking for a place to eat dinner, I had been looking for somewhere that had innovative food. This restaurant accomplished that and did a wonderful job of making interesting and tasteful dishes. My group and I ordered the Chef's menu (which was very well priced) and all of the pairings that went with it. All of the dishes felt very artfully prepared and went well together. The portions were adequate and not too overdone so that the next course could still be eaten. The staff were very kind and accommodating, and made a substitution on the tasting menu when a member of our group couldn't have fish. Walking into the Proper Hotel felt like it fit well with the tone of the overall neighborhood, and was well done inside. Villon itself is a small space in the hotel that fits with the overall mood of the hotel and still feels like an upscale place to eat.
