I always love eating here! One of my favorite restaurants.
The food is so amazing especially the desserts!! Such a good price for a michelin star too, and the portion sizes were amazing!

perfect service; extremely friendly staff; excellent dinner at The Vestry restaurant; great views; quiet; elegant; professionally managed. the slightest request was met with a smile and a genuine desire to attend to our wish or preference.

This is a bit of a fancy place because they quickly scanned my attire before they let me in to see if I’m dressed appropriately but they not overly strict and as long you don’t wear shorts or flip flops, then you should be fine. I’m not really sure why because I’ve been in fancier restaurants and this at best cries slightly upscale cocktail bar and no more. The bar is so tiny and if you come prime time then you can’t get a seat at the bar. I left around 7:30p and regular seats are mostly empty but bar pretty packed. I think it must have took half an hour or more for appetizers to come out. How long does it take to cook raw scallops and lukewarm oysters? Scallops were ok but oysters have this sour flavored sauce. Also ordered the shrimps and they were tiny and overcooked. I thought it weird a Michelin starred restaurant would have such a low Google rating and my hunch is correct, the Google rating is more accurate. The astronomical prices, average food, and sub par service does not fit the Michelin rating. You can always tell the type of restaurant by seeing if they replace your used utensils. I placed my used fork inside my finished empty bowl and the server literally took it out and placed it back on my table.

Food was good however, we felt very rushed as there was no breathing space inbetween courses. Well thought out interior but the restaurant lacked atmosphere resulting in us leaving straight after our meal and going somewhere else for drinks.

Extremely good food, amazing service. Nice fusion between Asian/Japan. The oysters and the tuna tartare are to die for, and the desserts are excellent too. Elegant place, super nice location.

We went to dinner and there have both indoor and outdoor tables. We chose the outdoor one. Very nice & warm service. Wine list are also good. Foods are very good and serve in good size, not too big.

We sat out in the shed on Spring Street on a Saturday night and felt very comfortable . The seafood driven menu is beautiful. We got the nori chips with salmon for a first bite - more like lettuce wraps than chips but a great beginning. We started with the toro and hamachi appetizer- both were just terrific. Then the main courses came: the halibut and the black cod , and both were just other worldly. The cheesecake is more like a pudding but it’s the most unique presentation I’ve ever seen. Outstanding wine list , we opted for Austrian Riesling. Highly recommended.

My husband and I enjoyed a truly delicious meal in the parklet the other night. The staff was so gracious and personable. From the comfortable seating, the table set up, lighting to the food and service - it was just a real welcome back to fine dining. The soup special was so light and flavorful and my husband's heirloom tomato salad was so bright with flavors. My halibut was cooked to perfection and seasoned delicately. They deserve their Michelin star and all the praise. It was a wonderful meal to end our trip to NYC and we have recommended Vestry to our friends.
Be the first to ReplyProtypical 1 star Michelin Restaurant (and even better!)
We visited Vestry for dinner. They were so inviting and even though we were dressed casually, we felt so welcome. Our server Roberto was so knowledgeable and easy going. I told him if any restaurant needed to teach how to give Michelin star quality service, they should have him run the course. His manner was welcoming, relaxed but attentive. You never noticed him until you needed him for something and whe you did, he was right there for you. The food was delicious but also very creative. Everything about this restaurant told you it was 1 star Michelin.....maybe it deserves more! We had all their bites and all were delicious and beautifully plated. My favourites were Nori Chips and the Big Eye Tuna. Each dish was done to perfection and others at our table had different favourites based on their own personal preferences. Of the small plates, our group had the Green Asparagus,Sushi Rice and Johan Crab. My favourite was the Jonah Crab. They also had a special feature that night: soft shell crab which was also delicious. For the mains, we had he Golden Tilefish which is medium firm fish that is a lot like halibut. Again, done to perfection so no complaints. For dessert, we had the homemade cheesecake, carmelized apple and chocolate tart. Chocolate lovers will love the tart and the most beautiful creation is the homemade cheesecake. They also have a great wine list with wines by the bottle and by the glass. All in all, this restaurant was what I think should be level of every 1 star Michelin restaurant. Terrific food, service and atmosphere, I would not be upset or surprised if it got its 2nd star...but maybe they are too down to early and unpretentious for the Michelin people, who tend to pick over the top, stuffy restaurants for the higher stars instead of consumer friendly, fun restaurants. We were given the absolute worst table in the restaurant despite being guests at the adjoining hotel. Tiny table between the kitchen and the servers station and poor service. We had to constantly reach over to the wine bucket to fill our wine.

We are wowed by fancy food on Instagram and that’s why we booked Vestry. We were wowed by everything about this place. The restaurant is beautiful, seating is thoughtfully laid out and comfortable, large tables, friendly staff. No problem with allergy.
The food! Goodness. Possibly the best meal we have ever eaten. Everything was amazing. Tuna toast was probably the star of the show, but who thought mussels and clams would taste nice with custard ! It’s amazing !
Special mention for the cheesecake which made us laugh.
Wonderful solo lunch
I came here alone for a late lunch and was blown away by the beauty and modern luxury of the room and knew as soon as I met a couple staff that it would great. I loved how welcome I felt as a single person dining — the genuine good service and hospitality. All 3 courses were wonderful — best raw fish starter I’ve had — and the rest of the food was pure bliss. I’d love to go back.

This restaurant has a lounge hotel feel to it which you might not expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. It is in the former Trump hotel, now the Dominik. Between the foreign accents of the servers, the look and feel of the restaurant, one might think they had traveled abroad. The food is mainly Japanese with a number so sushi dishes, wagyu beef Japanese style, and other dishes. All was very good. The one dish that was a little tough was the cod. The chicken was excellent as were the maitake mushrooms The orange moose was also quite good. Dinner for two, plus wine was $250.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional attentive service combined with fresh and unique cuisine to delight your taste buds, one great experience
From a very warm welcome, acknowledgment, very professional service staff who are discreetly and timely attentive, to the freshness, presentation, aromas and taste of all the dishes, this has to be one of the best that New York has, I don’t write reviews very often, only in times of compliments and when I am impressed, so The Vestry is certainly a must go to dining experience, can’t wait to go back.

After searching for starred restaurants we chose vestry from the menu based on their page.
The light bites were nice but apart from that and the wine the rest was dissapointing. The service and the floor was a very negative atmosphere. In my opinion a generous star was given.
A Meal We’ll Remember Fondly
A well-deserved Michelin star based on quality of preparation, appearance of preparation and place, local sourcing, and service. Our flight to NYC was delayed, we got stuck in rush hour traffic, made the mistake of taking a cab from uptown through the Village on a Friday evening, and so were 20 minutes late for our 6:15 reservation — and were not only greeted warmly, offered maybe the best table in the house for a party of 4, and served without hurry. Our martinis were large and perfectly prepared. The appetizer portions are large — and this is where the chef shines. All four were spectacular — the “surf clams” was a wonderful dish of diced clam and mussel baked in a wonderful and generous sauce. A perfect accompaniment to the sushi rice, also terrific and generously topped with trout roe. The big-eye tuna came with delicious brioche, and there was a special veal ravioli to die for. Dinners were terrific, our favorites were the beef cheeks (slow cooked and topped with foie gras, very rich and very wonderful), the striped bass decorated with radish, and the poached cod (huge and perfect throughout). Wine pairings were terrific, especially the white burgundy by the glass. My favorite dessert was the huckleberry tapioca, with perfectly fresh huckleberries. Service could not have been better, extremely attentive waiter who always appeared when needed and never intruded. Is there a but? Well, even for NYC the prices are eye popping. To my mind, worth it for one of the best meals of a lifetime, but come prepared. And come hungry!
Be the first to ReplyAte here only because I was a hotel guest
This menu is innovation just for the sake of innovation. A Michelin star feels GENEROUS. Too overly complex to enjoy dinner without the conversation inevitably being about the meal...in a way that brings more questions than answers. The salmon (the easiest fish in the world) was pretty good, but not mind blowing. But caramelized rice? Why? Rice is already a beautiful thing. I ended up feeling nauseous after Day 2 of dinner. Also not sure I love the cheesecake literally coming with a faux mouse on the plate. This is New York City. We're outdoor dining, babe. The PTSD is real.
Also if you want to eat dinner in under 2 hours, good luck! This restaurant is your new home now. You want to order? Too bad.
Fantastic find! Loved it.
We went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and we’re so happy: the food was delicious, the place is modern and retro with a touch of Tom Ford glam, the staff was very attentive and friendly. They even brought us a hand written note wishing us a happy anniversary! A very sweet touch. I had the hamachi crudo (superb) my husband the squash blossoms (divine!!!) I then had the corn risotto (sweet, creamy, delicious) he had the chicken (please get it, it was sensacional…!!!) he won! my pisco sour was special too. Would def go back, a hard earned 1 Michelin star. Kudos to chef ❤️👍🏻

Had a delightful lunch of small bites at Vestry. The tuna brioche was textured and balanced, and paired perfectly with a glass of Japanese whiskey that was suggested. West coast oysters were fresh. Service and space was relaxed. Looking forward to coming back for dinner to try the larger format seafood dishes.

My family and I stayed at The Domick Hotel so, we mainly ate there because of convenience. After seeing that it had a Michelin star, we got excited yet, it left us underwhelmed. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant itself is beautiful and with a comfy ambiance. However, it lacks proper ventilation and once a few tables are full, the place gets hot. Wait time was a bit longer than usual and the food was nice, subtle, and fresh. Yet, nothing wowed us which is why we will probably end up forgetting eating at Vestry as it was unremarkable.

Everything we had was very well prepared and tasty. The outside seating was very nice and the wait staff were generally very good. Nice cocktails and wine service. The fish heavy meal was all very fresh and well prepared. I would not go out of my way for this spot but if in the area it is worth a visit.
