We decided to try someplace new, so my wife had made
We decided to try someplace new, so my wife had made reservations. We get there a few minutes before our reservation and are told that our table will be ready shortly, even though there was an open table. We had to wait for a party to finish their meal before seated. Due to rainy weather and their patio dinning being closed they decided to pack as many people indoors as possible. There was very little room to move let alone walk around. My wife's chair was hit several times by the person seated behind her. We decided on a salad, 2 appetizers and 2 pasta dishes. The size of the portions that came to the table was a disappointment. The spaghetti plate was so small that it wouldn't be enough for a regular person, let alone someone who likes to eat. The fettuccini was buried under a mound of what I believe was shredded truffles which over powered the dish. The flavor of the pork meatballs was amazing and about the only bright spot of the whole dinner, unfortunately, it was one of the appetizers and we had to split 2 meatballs among four very hungry people. The pricing was a bit high, but I guess it being a "scratch kitchen / Restaurant" means the can over charge. Our server was very pushy and kept insisting that what we had ordered would not be enough. That we should order up to 8 dishes to feed our family of 4. Once we ordered the server was hard to locate and very "whatever" with us. My wife and I tip accordingly, and the service given merited the tip received, so to see the server complain to a coworker, and then watch their face drop as the looked up and realized I was standing right there was a priceless moment. At this point I had wished I'd listened to my wife and not left a tip at all. Overall, for what we spent, we should not have walked out of there still hungry, and I don't think we will return to this establishment anytime soon.

This is my "go to" restaurant when visiting my children in Pasadena. We all absolutely love this place. Wonderful service, nice wine list, and the pasta is fantastic. A favorite is the squid in past....incredible. The olive oil cake is a must-try as well. Be aware....VERY popular and in demand, so do make a reservation in advance.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, wonderful staff, and a cozy atmosphere
Incredible food, wonderful staff, and a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Came here for a friends birthday and with a group of 6 people (with pretty high standards), the fact that we all left feeling 100% happy and satisfied was a big deal. We were advised to get 10-12 dishes for the 6 of us and we went crazy actually going for 12. Realistically, we would have been full and satisfied just getting an appetizer or two and then individual mains but what's the fun in that! Everything was great. Standout appetizers were the local wild mushrooms with polenta and the citrus salad. Standout pasta was the torchetti and the carrot/squash pasta that I can't seem to find on the menu online but was to die for. It is on the expensive side but the quality definitely matches the price.

Love love love this place! Food is astoundingly pure satisfaction. I will keep coming back until I try everything on the menu. Portions are a little small for me (it's so delicious that I want more) but it's good enough to share so you can order other things on the menu. There's a parking structure across the street or limited street parking if you're lucky. Always make a rsvp a week or more in advanced since they usually get booked fast. The space is very small and I didn't like sitting so closely to the next table but I understand that they tried to use every inch of space there is. But that's the only disappointment for me. I will still keep coming back for sure! The last time I came, we ordered the meatballs which were awesome! The squid ink pastas was also wonderful and I don't remember what else we ordered. I didn't get a chance to take pix and post review then. This time we ordered the Crudo, spinach pappardelle, torchetti, and a dessert I forgot the name of. All were amazing! I want to come back now!
Be the first to ReplyFood very good.
.. service not... ambiance no comment... Not recommended.Cacio E Pepe, tasty.
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant has a warm ambiance and a cozy bar area.
Although the restaurant is on the smaller side, it's perfect for an intimate dinner or a night out with friends. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time to secure a table. When we arrived, we were advised by our waiter that the dishes were meant to be shared, family-style, but the portions were smaller than expected.I ordered the local wild mushrooms, the cacio e pepe, the squid ink lumache, and the torchetti (pork ragu). The cacio e pepe and pork ragu were okay, not outstanding. However, the wild mushrooms and squid ink pasta were my favorites. The truffle butter and polenta in the mushrooms were delicious, and the squid ink pasta had a burst of flavor with lots of seafood and umami. One thing to note is that there is parking available in a structure across the street, but unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't validate parking.
Be the first to ReplyCame on a Tuesday.
They were packed by 7 Pm. food was excellent! The burrata was so good! Carrots were nicely paired w a yogurt. the spaghetti was amazing. Cacio e Pepe was honestly just"ok". Dessert was great! Our server was lovely Ambience was a bit crowded but the experience wasn't effected too much. I'd go back die the spaghetti :)

First time here and I had a great experience! Our waitress recommended we get the Wild Mushrooms and I'm so glad she did, it was phenomenal! Definitely my favorite of the night along with the Squid Ink Lumache (included pics of my faves). Flavoring was just right and pastas were nicely al-dente. Service was great and will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming.
I was super excited to try this place given all the incredible reviews, but the food just didn't live up to my expectations. It has a nice casual neighborhood vibe with a great wine list and a decent selection of Italian varietals. We tried the straciatella (excellent), squid ink pasta (way too Al dente and the sauce was overwhelming), spinach pappardelle (ok, but once again felt undercooked) and the torchetti (best dish of the night). I don't know that I'd necessarily return or recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious ! And good service too.
We love the arugula salad and the tonerelli. Perfection

Outdoor dinning experience is great! Food and drinks are high quality. Stephanie and staff are very nice and helpful. Definitely a good choice if you are looking for a unique Italian dining experience.

Great California fresh inspired starters and pasta! Nice glass pour wine selection and able to squeeze us in on a recent business trip with a college without reservations. Would love to try this again with a larger group to be able to sample more of their menu! Highly recommended.

OhOh! Nice new find in Pasadena right opposite a parking structure. Interesting menu that's meant to be shared family style among friends! I especially enjoyed the Octopus dish, roasted carrots, and Olive Oil cake with ice cream and fruit topping...yummm. Ate outside on the sidewalk and was very warm and cozy under the heater lamps. I can also recommend the "White Lotus" cocktail!! BTW, the service was excellent! I will definitely make a return visit to try other menu items.
Be the first to Reply120% recommend!!! Amazing Italian food, service was spot
120% recommend!!! Amazing Italian food, service was spot on, ambiance is perfect for a date or a table of 4 (we had 6 and it was a little tight). The place is small but totally worth squishing in.I wish I could remember all the dishes we ordered, but it was a blur of flavor and happiness. I know the mushrooms and arugula salad were lovely starters. The salad was a great balance to the pasta we had coming and coming. My friend loved the octopus. The squid ink lobster pasta was probably my favorite, along with the fish special. Then the olive oil cake was the perfect ending. Our server timed everything perfectly. I'm pretty sure there is nothing bad on that menu! Try this place, you will not regret it!!
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing Italian restaurant in the heart of old town
An amazing Italian restaurant in the heart of old town Pasadena. Their pasta is truly some of the best I've ever had. The texture, flavors are all unique and delicious. My favorite pasta here is the truffle tagliatelle - absolutely insane!
Be the first to ReplyI loved this place so much.
Went for an impromptu date night and was seated immediately at the bar. We LOVED the bartender Chase--so warm and friendly and she had great wine and dinner suggestions for us. And after chatting and finding out a Chicago native runs the place (I see you Giardinere) was chefs kiss! Explained the good, homey, unpretentious, but still elevated vibes. What we got: Stracciatella- Good not great. Wish we'd gotten the other bread dish instead. Didn't get a photo. Beets- Delicious, classic, and the white dukkah was a nice touch Local Wild Mushrooms- PERFECT mushroom dish. Rich, with sweet notes, and the polenta was cooked perfect. #2 fav of the night. Seasonal Pasta- I got a photo because it was beautiful, but def my least fav of the night. Pasta was extra firm and thick and it just wasn't my vibe flavor wise. Wouldn't get ever again. TORCHETTI- #1 of the NIGHT. I could eat this everyday. Go and order this immediately. Olive Oil Cake- yum. Classic. Coming back ASAP. Loved it.
Be the first to ReplyWe came in a large enough group where the tasting menu was
We came in a large enough group where the tasting menu was required for the table. Honestly, we were all expecting to be a little pissed off for the price vs food. But WE WERE ALL SO WRONG! It was $95 per person, and they said 4 courses. But we didn't realize that each course was 2-3 dishes. By the time we got through our 3 pasta dishes, everyone was pretty full. And then the MAINS came, not to mention the desserts! Don't shy away from getting the tasting menu. It's probably a better deal than ordering off the menu, and it was all delicious!Everyone left completely stuffed, satisfied and happy!
Be the first to ReplyMy sister and I found this place through Yelp.
The menu was small but the pictures speak volumes. So we decided to try it. My sister ordered the octopus salad and I ordered the squid ink pasta. OMG....the pasta portion was so small and there are only few bits of pieces of lobster. The flavor was good but not worth the $32. My sister loved her octopus salad. I gave the restaurant 4 stars because the our server was very attentive and came over and checked on us to see if we are enjoying our meals. Overall, I don't think we will return to this restaurant again.
Be the first to ReplyI have been here several times, the food is always
I have been here several times, the food is always delicious. I've gone before Covid and we also supported this restaurant during the pandemic by ordering takeout. I decided to dine here with my family recently. I made a reservation for outdoor at an early time. Only a portion of the outdoor seats have shade. We asked to put two tables together in the shade and they declined saying they cannot. I'm pretty sure I could have physically put them together and move another set apart so the numbers do not change. They offered an indoor table but we're not comfortable with that, that's why I reserved a table outside. We put our parents who are older on the shaded half of the table. My husband and I were melting, we thought about leaving to the restaurant right next door that had umbrellas. We probably should have. I was upset because they knew how many tables were needed outside because I made a reservation. There were many tables not in a shaded area, if you're going to offer it I think it would be good to extend the shade to cover all of their tables. We also were not offered water or drink order taken for over 5 minutes as we roasted. Just be aware when you're asking for outdoor seating.
Be the first to ReplyTonight was my first visit at this restaurant.
Service was good, so was the food, however the cacio e pepe was not my favorite meal for it was lukewarm and lacked a little flavor. The pork meatballs were tasty as well as the torchetti. I also enjoyed the peach tart as dessert.
Be the first to ReplyService need improvement.
Waited over 45 min to get our first order and waitress gave our first dish to next table but when food eventually came out every dish was great. Overall quality of food was high and would return. Probably one of the best Italian restaurants in Pasadena.
Be the first to ReplyHeaded to Union for a birthday dinnerWe had a reservation
Headed to Union for a birthday dinnerWe had a reservation and we were sat immediately. We ordered the following;Local Wild Mushrooms- i order this every time I'm visit Union. The mushrooms, sauce on top of the creamy polenta. A must in my bookCharred Octopus- was charred well. The herb salad was very hearty and the acid balanced the dish well. Torchetti- I'm embarrassed to say. I've been to union about a dozen times. I've done the spaghetti, cacio, bucatini, the squid in multiple times. They are all really good. I don't know why it took me so long to order the Torchetti. This is my new favorite. We were told to mix in the ricotta and the dish was amazing. From the noodles to the sauce. You'll want to lick the bowl clean or use a piece of bread to do so. Duck- by this point we were pretty full. However, we did manage to get in a couple of pieces. The duck was cooked to perfection, crispy skin and tender. It was served with a plantain. A bit of each dipped in the sauce, yum. We ordered a bit much for two. We had leftovers.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing and totally different than most
The food was amazing and totally different than most Italian places. We were referred to this place through a social media friend that spoke highly of their food. They said it was the best Italian food in all of LA, so we drove an hour away to try it. When we arrived the hostess couldn't find our reservation but finally found it after she realized she was looking at the wrong day. The male host/ manager was on the phone and wouldn't answer the hostess to see if it was okay to seat us at our table. He finally got off the phone after 15 mins and said yes it's okay to seat them there but they need to be finished by 6pm because I have another reservation. At that point we almost left but we drove so far to try, we decided to give a try. We were finally seated. Our waitress (Chase) did not have much patience as we mulled over the menu, seeing this was our first time. She told us that we would need to put our order in and be finished eating with 90 minutes because they had another reservation after us. Kind of rubbed us the wrong way again. She also recommended we order 5-6 dishes because the dishes were small, even though another waitress told us everything is shareable sizes. We finally ordered only to be told that there were no guarantees what would come out first, even though we ordered an appetizer, salad and two entrees. Our salad arrived first, then our appetizer, then one entree, then finally our other. By that time I wasn't expecting much but was very pleasantly surprised with our salad, it was really good. The bread was awesome too. My daughters pasta arrived first which she enjoyed and then finally my spaghetti n meatballs came and it was huge. Every item had a very unique taste and was very fresh. Our best experience at Union beside the quality food was the helpers (Huely n Jonas) they both were amazing and took great care of us. We could never get our waitress attention but fortunately these two guys were so polite and friendly. They went around to every table and assisted the waitresses. In my opinion I would have loved to be able to tip them separately because they made our night. Overall it started out slow but ended with a bang. I would definitely go back and I would recommend this place if you are in the area. I would have given a 5 star rating because of the food and Huely n Jonas but had to give a 4 due to manager n waitress
Be the first to ReplyWhat a disappointment this restaurant was.
I've been wanting to try it for years, and I've seen it on many "best of LA/Pasadena" lists, so my expectations were a bit high. I wouldn't have thought it was good even if I had very low or no expectations at all.I started with the tomato/peach salad. That was very fresh. My friend had the local wild mushrooms. She liked it, but I thought it was heavy.I then got the squid ink pasta with lobster. I understand that paste should be cooked al dente (and I've eaten pasta in Italy many times so I know how that should be), but this was hard to chew! It definitely needed more cooking. It was also served cold. The only special thing about that dish was the color and shape of the pasta. My friend got the fish of the day. It was extremely salty and very overdone that she barely ate half of it.The servers didn't bother ask how our food was, probably because they knew what the answer would be.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner here that exceeded expectations.
Food was super delicious with every dish a hit and no misses. Pastas are awesome with the spaghetti and meatballs a don't miss dish. Service was warm and friendly. The space was bustling. Wines were banging. Can't wait to come back.
