Located in a central area, Tsurutonan is near Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc. Earlier today, we walked in with a group of 7, and were immediately seated and handed menus. We received great service throughout the meal and left satisfied with our experience! Unfortunately, our food experience wasn't as great. I got the creamy truffle udon, and while it was delicious for the first few bites, it was extremely heavy and made it hard for me to enjoy the dish. Now, hear me out. I'm someone who enjoys cheesy, oily, and greasy foods on a regular basis... but this dish made me feel queasy and had me thinking I might throw up; I couldn't finish the dish. Now, the reason why I'm giving the place 2 stars though is because of two reasons. 1. The value of the meal lived up the its expectation. We were served huge portions, which we had hoped for with the hefty price tags. For my one udon bowl, I paid about $34 including tax and gratuity. 2. I tried some of my friends' meals, and they weren't too bad! The sizzling sukiyaki was definitely the best, although it wasn't the best udon I've ever had. Admittedly, I felt like I could make it at home. The Wagyu udon that my girlfriend had strongly tasted of mirin, or some kind of alcohol as if the broth hadn't been simmered enough, but she liked the taste... so to each their own! Overall, we were looking for a place that served hot bowls of soups on a cold, winter NY day, and we got what we asked for. Was it the best? No. Would I come again? Probably not. But if you're someone who likes to venture to new places (and pretty places!), try this place out! Maybe you'll like it more than me :)
