Tsukimi Austin Reviews from The Last Year
Went here for lunch with my parents.
We were going to try their buffet option but my parents were not in the mood to eat a whole lot so we ended up buying ala cart. My parents and I shared an Omakase and Karaage. Omakase was pretty ordinary but it was fresh and delicious anyway. Nothing really stood out memorably. Just typical. The restaurant was pretty clean and well maintained. The waitress was also nice. Restaurant for lunch hour was nicely lit and the interior was pretty modern too. It is a good place to eat. Haven't tried their AYCE yet. Maybe we will try that next time.

Always!!! Amazing food, great service, and they're super quick as well. I usually sub the cucumber for avocado and they're very accommodating :) love this place for both eat in and takeout

I had previously given a good review, and admittedly the food is good. However, last time we went we had a very uncomfortable experience with the older female hostess. For background we come almost every week for AYCE and tip $20-$30 each time. Tonight we were in a hurry to get dinner after work so we stopped here on the way home. I only had cash so I paid my bill and said she could keep the change. She told me, "That's not enough for a tip. You need to give more." I told her the cash was all I had but she kept saying it wasn't enough. I had to get my husband to come back and use his credit card just for a larger tip. She told us she had to start a new transaction since we already paid in cash and charged us a fee to use card, again just for the tip. As regulars who are always polite and have never had a bad time here we were really off put by her behavior and unfortunately won't be back.
Came on a Saturday around 4:30 pm.
They had a single waitress working the whole establishment. She was literally RUNNING table to table while the hostess read a book. Food took forever. Sushi absolutely sucked. Everything tasted off- the scallops tasted like literal bandaids. The tuna eggrolls literally tasted like canned tuna. Nothing was fresh and stuff took FOREVER to come out even though the place was about a quarter full, if that. Will never return. Felt bad for the server she tried.
I visited Tsukimi in Austin with high hopes but left
I visited Tsukimi in Austin with high hopes but left thoroughly disappointed. The sushi was far from fresh and lacked the quality I expected. Even worse, the service was lackluster, with staff appearing disinterested and inattentive. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience that I won't be repeating.
DO NOT GO HERE Rude to customers and holds their customers
DO NOT GO HERE Rude to customers and holds their customers hostage forcing customers to tip more than 20% and would have bad anger issues if the customer's tip is lower than 20%
Unfortunately, I have to leave a 1-star review for Tsukimi
Unfortunately, I have to leave a 1-star review for Tsukimi based on my recent visit. The visit was far from what I expected, especially considering the reputation of this place. While the service was basic at best--my water was refilled, and we received a couple of rounds of sushi with some extra napkins--this didn't make up for the overall experience. The sushi itself was a letdown; it didn't live up to the hype or the premium expectations set by the ambiance and the price point. More distressing, however, was the interaction at the end of our meal. Despite the fact that we were the only customers at the time, the suggestion of a forced 20% tip--especially after an unremarkable dining experience--was surprising. It was even more shocking to be confronted by the owner in the parking lot, demanding a higher tip in a manner that was both aggressive and unprofessional. This experience left a sour taste, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend Tsukimi based on both the food quality and the service received.
Saw other reviews warning about this place and should've
Saw other reviews warning about this place and should've listened. Not only is the sushi below average it is definitely a money grab based off the options available when you get there vs what you see online prior, lot of things you have to pay extra for or not included in ayce. Not only that, the service is lackluster and on-top of it they expect you to pay 20% minimum and up on any bill even if it's a party of 2... Look I understand if it's a big party and you include gratuity already but anything less then 5-6 people should warrant for the customer to set the tip, not the BUSINESS! Left a sour taste in my mouth especially the fact the owner will let you know about his dissatisfaction for not tipping a ridiculous amount for mediocre service, not a great look for any business especially one that promotes ayce. Don't recommend this spot to anyone, save your money and go to a deserving sushi spot!!!
We wanted to try something different and heard that this
We wanted to try something different and heard that this place had decent sushi. We went in and it was empty, that should've been a red flag from the start. We got the sushi and it was alright... the meal was ok. Nothing special. We went to pay and the lady ask me "do you want me to put 20%" and I looked at her and said no, we just paid for alright sushi and it was $80. We paid and we're about to leave when the owner came out RUNNING and YELLED at us for not putting 20%. The owner was extremely rude and you do NOT treat customers like that. We will never come back.
!! DO NOT RECOMMEND !! WARNING: They PESTER you to tip
!! DO NOT RECOMMEND !! WARNING: They PESTER you to tip 20%+ or else they will get MAD at you. Went at 8pm and there was only 1 party there and left shortly after my gf and I sat down. This was a bit of a red flag and we should've known. We only ordered 2 rounds of AYCE. Our service was normal, nothing extraordinary. The one time they filled my water it was already 80% full. The only thing I asked for was extra napkins. Food was alright and everything we expect from an AYCE sushi spot. Just a little better than HEB at unlimited amounts. We proceeded to the checkout and the cashier wanted to put a tip amount THEMSELVES. I said no, I will tip the amount I want to based on my experience. Originally I was going to put 15% + round up but instead I put 11% and rounded up. As I started my car the owner RAN to my car, KNOCKED on my window and YELLED at me for not doing 20% I told him I can tip whatever amount I want and I'm not required to pay what THEY want me to pay. He continued to yell at me and said NEVER to come back. I have NEVER experienced anything like that. I read other reviews on Google and Yelp and this IS NOT the first time they've done this. BE WARNED

Good little spot in North Austin with good music in the background. Had the Ahí Tower and it was great! Friend had a few salmon and even though it did not taste as fresh - like if had been out for some time- all the other times it has tasted great. Our waitress was also very attentive and overall a good location.
Update review: it is a shame, it was a great place to eat
Update review: it is a shame, it was a great place to eat sushi. However, they are making you literally pay the tip percentage that they want instead of having options for different percentage or even when you ask for a certain tip amount they don't accept except the tip they already decide in the receipt which I believe that yes, you should pay for the service but you should be able to select how much you want to tip the server according to your experience. Unfortunately, I won't come back.

My favorite Austin place for sushi! The AYCE price for lunch is more than reasonable, and I love that they give small portions of entrees so you can try a lot of things without wasting food. But the rolls they give you are loaded - full size with lots of fish and fillings! I came prepared to do some damage and wasn't up for the challenge. I can't wait to go back!
Worth Trying … Good Food …
First time at this restaurant. 8 of us. 7 ordered from the all you can eat menu. Sushi delivered promptly. Miso soup, pot stickers, calamari, all fantastic. Yellow tail, surf calm, salmon, and eel nigiri all tasty. Salmon skin needs yo be pan fried more, as it wasn’t crispy. Red bean ice cream a winner. Server was amazingly efficient. Nice! Negatives? Oh my, the list of rules regarding ordering and how many pieces, and the rounds, is almost exhausting. Wow. Big turn off. Restaurant is worth trying as food is good quality and tasty And, good service. Reasonably priced. Good value.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
