Highlight of our trip to Burano.
Staff was top notch and the fish risotto was the star. Make sure you go with your appetite and the risotto is a min order of 2 which comes out to around $50 EU. We had the waiter select our wine based on what we ordered and it was Devine a Chardonnay pair perfectly with the fresh Bronzino which was deboned table side (very cool presentation). Highly recommend you make a reservation at this Michelin star restaurant. We were going to go to the acclaimed Anthony Bourdain recommended one but it was closed on Tuesday. The razor clams and scallops were so fresh and full of flavor.

Trattoria al Gatto Nero, is a famous Venecian restaurant on the picturesque island of Burano, a short Water Taxi ride from Venice. The restaurant was founded by Chef Bovo and his wife and is led by his son Massimiliano. It is a special place located on a canal bordering the ocean, it is charming and intimate and the fresh fish caught from the Lagoon is delicious. We shared an appetizer of fresh clams and scallops, which were delicate and sweet, a true delight; homemade fish risotto cooked to perfection that burst with flavor (a dish not to be missed), handmade in-house tagliatelle with fresh prawns and cherry tomatoes followed by a grilled Branzino with a side of artichokes. It was an amazing lunch. Pictures do not adequately convey the ambiance of the setting or the quality of the food. My husband and I consider ourselves excellent home chefs, but after dining at al Gatto Nero we realize we have more work to do to master the fine art of italian cooking. Highly recommended. Reservations required.

Be the first to ReplyDining at Al Gato Nero was a phenomenal experience! My wife
Dining at Al Gato Nero was a phenomenal experience! My wife and I arrived in Burano about an hour prior to our lunch reservations and explored this gorgeous island prior to our meal. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were very fortunate to have an outdoor table along the canal with a gorgeous view of the colorful buildings. The restaurant was full booked and anyone without a reservation was turned away. We initially thought this was going to be a relatively quick lunch, but we were very tempted by the restaurant's 7 course tasting menu and ended up spending hours of the afternoon enjoying our meal and the view. The meal started with a complimentary glass of prosecco and our first course was Spider Crab. The crab was shredded and super fresh with a hint of lemon. The second course was the Tris di Crostacei all Griglia which consisted of tender flavorful scallops with a light char and a hint of lemon and juicy fresh razor clams. The third course was Antipasto di Vongole Misto which was basically a mixture of tender juicy and fresh clams in a super flavorful briny broth. The fourth course, Risotto alla Buranella, which is arguably the restaurant's most popular dish, was delicious. This briny flavorful risotto lived up to the hype but, ironically, was my least favorite dish of the meal. The food was just that good. The fifth course was the Tagliolini alla Grancevola. Al dente and briny pasta was mixed with shredded shellfish and flavorful tomato. The sixth course (and main entrée) was the Branzino (or Sea Bass). The fish was meaty, tender, and flakey and paired with savory potatoes and juicy tangy tomatoes. Finally, our dessert was creamy with crumbly almond cookies. We were so stuffed after our meal we canceled our dinner reservations that evening. We could not have asked for a better experience in Burano. We had one of our best meals in Italy with one of our favorite views. Dining at Al Gato Nero is a must.

The best meal we had in venice!! Amazing spaghetti with clams - the sauce with tomatos was fresh and paired well, the pasta was cooked al dente, and the tiramisu was the best we had so far on the trip. The service was exceptional - and we also got complimentary prosecco!

Amazing food and service! We were given a lovely glass of Prosecco while we waited for our table. The owner asked about our food preferences & told us he would cook for us. Everything was exceptional. The scallops...so delicious, cooked perfectly. And the pasta...and the dessert...everything was delicious. We were sent here on a suggestion of Giorgio our Airbnb host & it was absolutely perfetto!

...this was/is hands down the best risotto on this planet and possibly in the solar system . We saw Fred Sirex eat here and rave about the risotto and with the wife being a fan I planned a day trip to Burano from Venice. I had zero intention on having risotto (because it's never "wowed" me but they have a two person minimum on the risotto ( due to the preparation process). The wife was going to order something else, but I insisted because I wanted her to have this "perfect" dish. Boy, am I glad I did. It was so flavorful and creamy while still light and balanced. I'm converted and can't wait to replicate this dish at home. Oh...not to be outdone, our appetizer of muscles, clams and scallops was redonk as well. The wife isn't really a shellfish fan but was literally spooning the juice between muscle bites. Service was impeccable and the chef is a cool old guy too. They have received a Michelin star for 2021 and I'm giving them my star too. Well worth a special trip if you're in Venice.

Do i need to go on? Ok, fine i will! This place fills up quickly, so i recommend getting a reservation before you come here. The food is good, although i do believe the internet has hyped this place up a little too much! It is not Michelin star worthy as they have received. We both ordered the Risotto alla Buranella. It was good, but i was left a little underwhelmed. I also ordered the jumbo shrimp. They were fresh but not a ton of meat for 10 euro each. Lastly, the dessert, Tiramisu. Again, good not great. Its expensive, theres no getting around that and the food was decent but i was a little disappointed considering what i had heard about this restaurant. The wait staff was attentive and friendly throughout our meal and made us feel super welcome. The best part of this place is the free prosecco at the start of the meal, unfortunately It went downhill from there.
