Classic, Iconic Tiki Place
Evidently, the London Trader Vic's closed just after we spent an evening there in late December 2022. I'm glad we got to go there because it was apparently the oldest surviving Trader Vic's left at the time, dating back to the early 1960s. Decor was classic Tiki, the place was comfortable, service was excellent. Drinks and everything else excellent. Hopefully, it can be brought back, but if moved anywhere else, it will never be quite the same.

One of the greatest restaurants in the world not destroyed by Hilton to make way for probably **another** generic Mayfair steakhouse; so sad. Please come back Trader Vic!

Ever since I moved to London decades ago itโs been a joy visiting Trader Vicโs. Exquisite decor and cocktails, and its history make it to the top of my list of London cocktail bars. I'm very sad to see it will close its doors on 1 January. Hilton team: do you really think youโll do better replacing it with something new? Does London need another bland new bar? Other parts of the hotel feature some great mid century art. Please leave these alone.

Had a lovely meal in December out table was booked for 9.30 pm it was extremely busy we did have to wait quite some time for our drinks to arrive i had the original mai tai very good too.food was delicious and staff very good I would recommend it but sadly heard itโs closing in December which is very sad news there isnโt anywhere like this in london the decor is unbelievable.
Be the first to ReplyTravelled to London especially to visit Trader Vic's
We live north of Liverpool, and we made special arrangements to travel down to London for just one night, simply in order to visit Trader Vic's. The entrance to the Hilton is like any other hotel, really, but they have something very special just to the left as you enter the foyer - when you see the doorway that leads into Trader Vic's, it immediately grabs your attention and draws you inside. From the outset we were greeted so warmly, with every member of staff treating us as if we had been there every day since they opened in 1963! The all-too-familiar glass-and-concrete structures outside, and the December weather faded into a distant memory as we descended the spiral staircase into another world - every conceivable surface is decorated with carvings, tapa print, bamboo, hanging boats, fishing floats, and Chinese ceramic tiles. The overall effect cannot be overstated - it is like travelling to a distant tropical getaway - nothing compares to the feeling of walking in for the first time. The staff looked after us so well, we had great food, excellent cocktails, and we left feeling like we had visited friends. Indeed, we met like minded people and left all the better for meeting them. But what brought us together wasn't just a bar - it is so much more than that - it was the culture and history surrounding this type of bar and the role they can play in stepping outside your own life for a couple of hours and leaving the world behind, which was brought about, in part, due to the efforts of people like Trader Vic. To have a remnant of this time, a living time capsule that exemplifies the zeitgeist of mid-century leisure, hidden in their hotel makes the Hilton the luckiest hotel in London. We are saddened to hear that it will no longer be there in the very near future, and would urge anyone who has any power to change that decision to look at the outpouring of affection for this institution. We would love to come back and experience the passion and warmth that only the staff at Trader Vic's London can offer. Thank you all for making us feel welcome, and we hope things go well for the future.
Be the first to ReplyTrader vics london is an unappreciated gem for Hilton
Annual visit to Trader vics in the basement of Hilton Park Lane. Although not promoted by the hotel its a stunning and phenomenally rare survivor of the mid twentieth century tiki phenomenon. Sip an original 1944 recipe mai tai amongst original art and carvings from both Polynesian artists and oceanic arts in california. Trader vics staff were wonderful as always. Friendly, fun and just a great atmosphere. A couple staying at hilton sat next to us and said the place seemed so much more fun than the 'boring' bar upstairs. They were swiftly talked into cocktails instead of wine! Trader vics London is a special place, in need of a little sympathetic restoration but to close it is astonishingly short sighted.

I have visited this restaurant many times and it is truly an experience! Fantastic food and an immersive experience. Staff are fantastic and it simply must stay. We live this place and London would not be thesame without it. Its a piece of history

Excellent bar and a London institution. Delicious food, wonderful staff, imaginative cocktails served in amazing tiki bars, all served up in an atmosphere that is second to none! Long may Trader Vicโs reign as the longest running and greatest tiki bar in the world!
Be the first to ReplyTrader Vic's is tiki heaven.
The decor. The Mai Tais. The staff. All fantastic. This place is a real treasusre. It's under threat of closure just shy of its 60th anniversary. That will be a tragic loss for London. Treat yourself to some tiki heaven while you still can.

This is the fourth time we have been in there in the last few years. We come down to London for my wife's birthday celebration. But personally I have been going to this tiki bar since the early 1980s when my father used to take us as he worked a lot in London. The bar is staffed with friendly and helpful people and the food it excellent. Not mot mention the cocktails which my wife loves. She says this is the only place in Britain where we have been that makes a Mai Tai the way she likes it. This December we were shocked to hear from fellow diners they are thinking of closing it, the reason we were told that the Hilton just wanted the space. If this happens this wonderfully done our restaurant will be no more. This cannot surely happen! In the 1980s my father told me he took an employee who's birthday it was out with the rest of his staff to Trader Vics here. When they sang Happy Birthday, the next table all got up and toasted her, because the man at the head of the table King Hussein of Jordan asked them to. Made her day! Please do not close this establishment and we will be there next year.

This is a great spot to grab a nice fruity and or frozen drink. We went in the early evening twice during our stay. We opted for the lounge area near the bar for drinks and lighter fare. The noodles and the ribs are good (try them together). I tried a few different drinks but the Daiquiri Apertivo was my favorite. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. I honestly think we went the second time because the manager remembered us and was so nice when we saw him around the hotel.

I celebrated my 40th bday last week and the whole experience was just great. The staff I dealt with ( mainly Giorgia) was just great. She helped me and adviced me to organise and plan everything in all the details, from the food to the decorations. Everything worked perfectly, all my guest were super happy and everyone loved the food, the cocktails and the atmosphere. Thanks so much for making my day special. I will have a lot of great memories of this day. Well done. I do strongly recommend this lovely place to everyone. ๐๐๐๐
Be the first to ReplyGood place for drinks / cocky but food letโs it down
Staff and drinks were excellent but unfortunately the food didnโt match the restaurants ambience. Lamb chops were flavourless and tough, noddles were very plain and food came out cold.
Be the first to ReplyHappy hour is the best
We came across Trader Vic's after a disapointing stop at another hotel bar for some cocktails. For a friday evening it wasnt that busy. We were there during happy hour. The menu for the drinks during this time is not massive but very good. The staff are very nice and we stopped for three rounds of Pina Colada. A lovely suprise when we got the bill. Well worth a visit and we will be returning next time we are in town.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Service, awfully loud music
Located inside the London Hilton Park Lane, we thought a visit to Trader Vic's would be a gentle reminder of home. The setting is one floor down from the lobby, and the tiki decorations begin immediately as you descend the stairs. The food was very good, the servers were engaging and fun. As we were enjoying our main course, the live band started playing at dance club volume levels. It was almost comical as we had to SCREAM at each other to be heard. We abandoned any thought of dessert or relaxed conversation, paid the bill and left. I asked the manager on-duty whether this was supposed to be a restaurant, discotheque or bar. He admitted they are trying to do all three which simply doesn't work for those wanting a quiet dinner. So beware! You can have good food here, but eat early, before the band starts playing. Or, if you want loud music and a bar scene, go after 7pm.

What a great place! The decor is amazing, staff are lovely. The best cocktail menu. Not a massive food menu but the food was nice (if a little pricey)
Be the first to ReplyGreat Celebration
We came to Trader vic for some cocktails to finish our day celebrating my daughters forth coming marriage. We were made to feel very welcome the staff were very attentive and as the time went on the table became quite lively. The staff did everything to help us have a good time. THANK YOU.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Polynesian birthday experience!
I visited with my husband in November 2021 as a special treat for my birthday. Booking was easy on the website.
On arrival we were given a choice of table and it happened to be salsa night, so we were treated with some gorgeous in-house music and plenty of fun dancing from the patrons!
The food and cocktails were both delicious and when I come again I swear it'll be especially for another plate of crab rangoon.
Special shout out to Isaac the manager who served us that night. All of the staff are obviously wonderful but he was absolutely fabulous and made my birthday very special when he found out that was why we were dining that night.
Good Food and Friendly Service
Came here with my wife and a friend, we did not have a reservation, as we decided on the spur of the moment to come here, but they did find us a table for 3, although the place was very full. The Menu is quite extensive, with lots of dishes to chose from. The Service was very friendly and fairly efficient, despite them being so busy. The live music was a bit on the loud side, but that might also be a sign of our age, but I do not complain about it, altogether it was a very enjoyable dinner, very lively and good food. We will return!

Trader Vic's left me high and dry. They accepted my reservation for my sister's hen do for 14 people. They required a card for this which I duly and happily gave. I made the reservation months in advance and planned the hen around this.
Two weeks before the event, they emailed me to let me know they are closing the restaurant for a private event and would be cancelling my reservation.
This has left me scrambling for another venue, in central London, that can take a reservation for 14 people for dinner. Obviously, most places are fully booked. I can't change the date as people have made travel and hotel arrangements already.
Trader Vic's have royally screwed me over. I still haven't found a place to take us.
DO NOT BOOK THIS RESTAURANT UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED FOR THEM TO CANCEL ON YOU AT SHORT NOTICE.
The best experience
I visited in November with my husband and 2 year old daughter and was completely impressed by the whole experience. The tiki decor of the restaurant is definitely unique and adds to the whole theme, thereโs so many interesting and intricate details to take in. As a vegetarian food options can often be limited so it was nice to have a few different options and the food itself was excellent and full of flavour. My little girl was a bit out of sorts and just wanted noodles, that wasnโt an option on the menu but the waitress was happy to accommodate and the noodles were super tasty. The cocktails are fantastic and the choice is endless, even if you donโt want to dine here itโs worth it for the cocktails and the experience as a whole. At the end of the meal my little girl was given a Lei which she was absolutely delighted with and it was such a lovely personal touch. I often feel a bit nervous taking a toddler out for meals as I donโt want to disturb other customers but I can definitely say we were completely at ease and made to feel very welcome. All the staff are an absolute credit to the restaurant and we look forward to visiting again.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful!
Although we only went for drinks, we had a fantastic time and the service was great. Each of the cocktails were amazing and presented excellently! The venue itself is also gorgeous - incredibly well done. We really enjoyed the music. Only downside was service charge added for each separate drink brought to the table. Much better to order at the bar!
Be the first to ReplyA bit meeh
Sometimes with 8 people you donโt want to be anywhere you might be considered loud or annoying so enter Trader Vics with ease. Iโm not a fan of corporate brands but it suited the purpose for what we needed a good old catch up and laugh.
As you would imagine drinks on Park lane to be these are expensive and measured. So you get a first taste of alcohol and then the bucket of ice kicks in and youโre like meeh! Fancy glasses do what they set out to do and trick you into thinking you are getting a polonesian masterpiece.
Food was ok, burgers a little dry and other food again just meeh. Only really nice dish was the ribs. Waiter was a bit slap dash, I asked him to write happy birthday on my friends dessert and they wrote it on mine?
Expensive but then itโs park lane, would I go again, probably not
Unchanged Since the 60s
Returning after over 40 years I was pleased to find the taste the concepts still the same....
High Points: Isaiah who sat us and offered to take our pic upon leaving with a signature photo, our servers, our food quality unchanged for decades in taste, and our barman sailer who came to give us a rum-flame special dessert drink as a treat, complete with special rum and story
Low Points: n/a
Unique Points: all the service ware and dishes and cups are very Asian in inspiration and we were happy to see many tables of Asians eating around us too; definitely a place for drinks and Asian "tapas"
Food: exquisite
Service: attentive, deft, anticipatory, generous
Ambiance: music, lighting, decor, and all transported us from the London Hilton to some islands in Asia
A little bit of Hawaiโi in London
Celebrated New Years Eve at Trader Vicโs and had the most amazing time. The staff were exceptional and the show with the Satin Dollz was a blast. Music of the 49โs to modern day. The drinks served by a most friendly staff were tropical and delicious. The food, too, was very, very good. I hated to leave and would heartily recommend a visit to this swanky hotel (Hilton) on Park Lane and a stop at Trader Vicโs.
