The best Vancouver meal we had
Unassuming location housing the best meal we had in Vancouver. It was worth the drive to experience this evening. We had the chef's tasting menu and chose the Duck as our main. Our four appetizers were a Burrata Salad, Kanpachi Crudo, Bison Tartar and a Garlic Prawn Papaya Salad. The Burrata Salad featured two things I don't normally enjoy: tomatoes and mushrooms, yet I was fighting my better half for every bite. The Kanpachi Crudo was deceptively simple with complex flavours, it provided a gorgeous symphony in our mouths. Bison Tartare sounded like an odd mix but was delightful, the crisps looked too thin to be supportive but managed to hold its own while melting in your mouth. The Garlic Prawn Papaya Salad had the perfect amount of spicy bite. The Roasted Duck arrived with four steamed wraps. Now I am not a fan of duck, but this was the most delicious duck I've ever tasted. I wrapped up the duck with the cucumber slices and cherries for a custom duck taco. The wraps disappeared before the duck did but it was tasty on its own. Desert was the Basque Cheesecake. Trying to be good, we cut ourselves only quarter slices. The top of the cheesecake was lovingly "burnt" evoking childhood memories of marshmallows around the fire. It was absolutely delicious. Ignoring my diet, I kept picking at the remaining half until the server took pity on me and brought out a takeaway container. I didn't think it would last the night, but it was just as tasty the next day. The Michelin guide is right “if there’s a dish you simply must order it’s their wonderful Basque cheesecake.” The entire time service was friendly and attentive. We found the meal perfectly paced, never rushed, and we still got out with time to spare to make our show. Also of note, while the playlist featured excellent tunes all night, the kitchen itself was almost silent. Chef Steve Kuan runs a well-oiled machine, everyone focused on putting out the best plates they can. In the dining room, we could have a conversation without straining to hear one another. Torafuku should definitely be on your list of restaurants to visit in Vancouver. My review does not do this restaurant justice, but this one truly does, search Akeena + Legall + torafuku

Last minute decision but a pleasant surprise. First time visit so did not know what to expect. Four for a late lunch and we each had a Kickass rice bowl. A great mix of flavours, we enjoyed them very much. Looking forward to more visits to sample the rest of the menu.

Our family was visiting Vancouver and we picked Torafuku by chance for dinner one night. What a great find! The place is quite small but welcoming. The staff there are delightful and seem to really enjoy what they do. The food - well, the food is fantastic. They offer a tasting menu for two that looks great, but since we were 5 people we ordered individual dishes to share. Each one was quite unique and absolutely delicious. If you have nothing else there, have the cornbread and the cheesecake (Basque style). Really a great find. Go. Enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyTorafuku: Offers A Great Valentine’s Day Menu At A Good Price.
Torafuku, the Pan-Asian restaurant, on Vancouver’s Main Street, in the culinary joint neighborhood of Main Street & Chinatown, is offering a very exciting Valentine’s Day menu, available from February 11. It includes four appetizers to share, an entree with a “starch” to share and dessert. It costs 65$ per person and draws upon the various cuisines of Asia, with this menu’s main focus on Korean dishes. Best to book soon. Service is great and dishes reach across the delicious offerings of Asia. Posted by S Fuller.

We had an amazing dining experience here. The food was so good and the service was great. We did the set menu and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely would recommend checking this place out.
Be the first to ReplyTorafuku started out as a food truck...
Torafuku started out as a food truck if I remember correctly. I like their play on Japanese flavours. I always get their karaage lunch rice bowl. It's affordable take out and fills you up. Another good option is the half pork belly and half chicken karaage if you can't decide. Their chicken is really crispy but still has a thin coating. I also like the spicy mayo and chili they add on top (although I do like spicy food, so might be biased). When I go dine in at this place, I also get their crack salad. It is quite good too. Service inside is mostly self serve, you go in, order your food and find a table to sit at. Ambiance inside is very industrial chic with high ceilings.

First time not cooking at home for five weeks so I did it right with take-out from Torafuku and, damn, was that the right move! Fried chicken, pork fried rice and beef noodle bowl. Not one single missed mark with each one delivering on levels of unami and the five basic tastes. There were lots of happy eating sounds and at least one happy food dance. I hope it opens for dine-in again soon because I now crave their pork belly fried rice which, oddly enough, combined done flavours out of my favourites but worked oh so well! And the broth of the beef bowl was something I could bathe in!

This lil gem of Asian Fusion food was a long awaited experience! Three of us shared plates of salad w/calamari, noodles w/mushrooms, and my FAV......scallops on risotto👌

We arrived to 5:45pm and though the place was not busy we agreed to leave by 6:45pm. The restaurant ambiance is quiet open and contemporary. The waiter and waitress were very attentive and fantastic with following up with the food taste and quality. We ordered: The Chai - very good alcoholic beverage you like chai and plum taste Pork belly skewers - was super flavourful and rich Chicken thighs skewers - was good, not my favourite Chicken gizzard - no picture but was my husband's favourite Mochi - tasted like Chinese deep fried roll Tiger ball - really good with gooey cheese Get in my belly roll - if you like spicy tuna you would love this The food came out at a good pace. As we finished another one was served. Great service explaining the dish with ingredients. We left full and satisfied. Would come back to try other dishes.
