The food could be better
Last week I had a client over for lunch. We both ordered a cheeseburger and chocolate cake for dessert. To take the positive first. The chocolate cake was very good. But the cheeseburger was a disappointing affair. A thin piece of meat/burger in a semi-warm and dry brioche bread was not exactly a positive gastronomic experience. Even with many guests for lunch, the food should be in keeping with the atmosphere and not least the reputation of an institution such as Theatercafeen.

This was once very good, but now it's just regrettable how bad it has become. Service is like nothing, the lutefisken ok but no more. It was just very unfortunate to be there tonight. A good waiter did everything he could to ensure that it would be good, but unfortunately most things were missing apart from a friendly and pleasant waiter. All credit to the waiter.

I am more than happy to recommend the Sunday dinner offer at Theatercafeen. Super service, wonderful atmosphere and bad least fantastic food this Sunday with Beuf de Bourgogne and Crepes in the French way is one of the best I have eaten in a long time regardless of country or restaurant.

Burger for over 300 without a salad leaf. Small prawn sandwiches for NOK 299, and Napoleon's cake where you have to look for the vanilla cream. Not possible to pay separately without bringing a pencil and calculator. Never experienced worse service in Oslo.

Very good crockery and food. Very nice waiter who is both attentive and very friendly. Recommended a visit, very good.

Pleasant and attentive service. Drinks came quickly and the food was excellent. Nothing to note. The overall experience of the visit was impeccable. Actually as expected
Be the first to ReplyClassic location, with ambiance
A return visit to this wonderful classic cafe with a sense of grandeur and flair. Great for casual dining and coffees with wide bar venue. Delicious perfectly presented food. Dress smart and book ahead.

Not sure why it took me so long to try this place, but I loved it! Food was delicious and service was attentive. Beautiful atmosphere. I would love to return again soon.

Theater cafe was great. The decor is elegant tablecloth, candles and flower. The food was cooked to perfection, service top notch. The resturant is spik and span clean. In addition to my meal i got the desert cheese to go, it was yummy.

Beautiful restaurant but…. Found our waiter very condescending as we asked a few Qs about the menu. Husband very happy with his order of cod. Friends both had the stew and it was fine. I, however, ordered the steak tartar. Have to admit when it came it looked like my dog’s wet food. Although the egg and aioli were on the plate in little containers, the presentation was less than pleasing. A sprig of parsley perhaps? Another garnish? Have eaten tartar many places. By comparison this was way too large a serving - how much can you eat? Should I have cut up my fries to eat with it as no crackers or toast anywhere. Most disappointing meal in Oslo.

Pre-Theater dinner at this venerable restaurant did not disappoint. We had a wonderful table with an expansive view of the classic dining room. The food and service did not disappoint. Be sure to make a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, service and atmosphere.
All in all: Great food, service and atmosphere. Historic restarant placed in the heart of the city centre. Prices are ok for the quality of what you get. 🥰🍾 we had pur weddingdinner here. So happy we chose it. Turbot (piggvar) var amazing. The pork was way too fatty for my taste. But this place has it all! Go for lunch or dinner. Book well in advance.

Theatercafeen is located inside the Continental. It also has an entrance from the street. We sat at the bar, which we enjoyed. We shared 2 entrees, the turbot and the shrimp salad. Both were excellent. We enjoyed the bartender who gave us tips on where to dine in Trondheim, his home town, and our next adventure. The dining room is beautiful.

Interesting menu and everything was delicious. I never thought I would use that word to describe zucchini but their appetizer was amazing. The Thai udon noodle Bolognese was unique and delicious. We also had turbot and an orzo with asparagus done in the style of risotto that was very good. For dessert I had a parfait with lemon cello sorbet that was delicious. All of the staff were gracious and professional. There was a picture on the wall and my wife asked who the person was. The waitress went out of her to get us an answer. Her effort was noticed and appreciated.

The restaurant is nice with a pretty good menu. The decor takes to back to the 1920s. The menu is pretty good.
Be the first to ReplyFish cake? Hrmpf!
We had avocado toast and fish cake(s), - the last one was for me. This was during lunch time and the noise from the many guests was very loud. We had a nice and helpful waiter and she let us move to a better table with less noice. The avocado toast was quite good. Fish cakes was one of the restaurant’s signature dishes and of a size comparable to a medium pancake (there was only one), one of the biggest fish cakes I had ever seen, with apples, pickled cucumber, curry mayonnaise, and rye bread. The presentation of this dish was very simple and not very fancy. I’m still wondering what the fish cake tasted, but I honestly still don’t know. Everything tasted curry mayo. I think this dish cries for a new and better deal and new design. Signature dish? Hrmpf! Look for more reviews by MulleEllum.
Be the first to ReplyGOOD SERVICE AND CREATIVE MENUE
The staff at Theatercafeen was very helpful and friendly - always going out of their way to help. The menu is interesting with a quite small but well thought through selection. They have now an intestine selection of vegan dishes.

I ordered the Mussels sorry to say 275 kr for the worst mussels I've had 80 per cent of them were white, so many red and green chillies that spoilt the dish even more. Don't know where they get their mussels delivered from need to change straight away.
