A true gem in a beautiful village
Best restaurant in Cookham if not the whole of. Berkshire! Itโs our local and has never disappointed since it first opened in 2008. I hearty recommend the Oak 75 cocktail. This place is foodie heaven
Be the first to ReplyA very enjoyable lunch
Popped in for a Saturday lunch and had a very agreeable afternoon! Nice ambience and friendly staff kicked everything off. My better half had cured salmon to start (possibly the best salmon ever apparently) and I went for the ham hock croquette (very meaty), for mains she went for the Hake (lovely) and I had blade of beef (a slow cooked revelation). And for pudding the Guinness Sticky Toffee Pudding (also great) and I had something chocolate and creamy which was fine (not as great as the Sticky Toffee though). All washed down with a couple of glasses of nice wine. It was not cheap (we should have gone for the ยฃ23pp 3-course set lunch menu that looks very good value) however the food was well prepared and cooked and everything hit the spot to make for a very enjoyable lunch and pleasant afternoon.
Be the first to ReplySunday roast - just superb !
We came for a Sunday roast lunch on a recommendation and wow, it was amazing! Apart from the parking challenge ( car park isn't large), this was up there in one of the best Sunday lunches ever! The starters were stunning, I had the spicy parsnip soup, full of flavour and deliciously thick, my partner had the ham & cheese croquette, with the most amazing ham, superb ! We both had roast beef, the meat was slightly pink and very tender, the best roast beef I have had in a long time, the vegetables were cooked to perfection. The quality of all of the food was outstanding overall. Only a small niggle, the horseradish was the cream version, so didn't have much flavour, however it's irrelevent when you have food this good. We couldn't manage a pudding as too full ,however they looked lovely. Full marks to the chef and team, this one is a winner, we will be back ! you will need to book as it was packed.
Be the first to ReplyYummy Sunday Lunch!
My husband treated me to a Sunday lunch before Christmas and I must say this pub came up to and over reached expectations! The staff were so friendly and helpful, what really impressed my husband was that I was always served first, either drinks, menu or food - a really nice polite touch, not one you see very often nowadays. The food was lovely and the atmosphere throughout the whole place was great. Def one to recommend to friends!

Really good food and excellent friendly service. The restaurant is a very nice place to be and designed beautifully. I just wish the mains were a larger portion size. But will definitely be back.

Visited our favourite eating place to enjoy a family celebration meal , staff were very attentive, the food presented was amazing, never disappointed with this lovely place.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant birthday treat
We ate early on a Friday night for my birthday (early as we had our two young kids with us). The whole experience was spot on. My dad said the parsnip soup was one of the best he's ever had. Fish cooked perfectly and service friendly and attentive. The kids also ate everything on their plate, which is rare! Thank you for making my birthday a special one.
Be the first to ReplyA deserved 5 star experience
For a number of reasons we hadn't visited the White Oak for some time. The main reason being the acoustics where for some reason normal conversation/laughter appears to be amplified to an uncomfortable degree. We visited again last night and were early diners (6.30pm) and the restaurant was much more quiet. We enjoyed impeccable service and just could not fault the professional but warm service. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious though as a vegetarian I would have welcomed more choice of mains. I am absolutely not a fan of beetroot so had to plump for the alternative (risotto). Again, perfectly cooked, just would have preferred the gnocchi but for the beetroot ingredient. The starter of cauiflower soup was delicious and full of lovely flavours - all praise to the chef. My partner is not a vegetarian and thoroughly enjoyed all of his choices Very good wine list with some lovely Argentinian wines. I finished my meal with the cheese board and was recommended a plummy Italian wine to complement it. Excellent advice as the combination worked very well. Overall a very enjoyable evening and certainly enhanced by the highly professional staff.
Be the first to ReplyMore the name than the the price is worth
We had the โ Fest menuโ. The starter (ham hok was good. The main course was roasted turkey breast. It was a slice of dry turkey meat not with a roasted skin. The gravy was tiny not enough for the meat and the sides were not as expected for a well recommended restaurant. The desert was ok but the announced petite fours were far away from what petit fours had to be
Be the first to ReplyGood food but way over-priced for a bar
Visited one Friday night having booked table well in advance. Table was not ready on arrival (despite text message from the restaurant confirming booking) and we were shown to a table outside with no option to sit inside. The menu and the food was very good and the Cheeseboard is recommended but overall portions were very small for the price charged. One new potato in an ยฃ18 main dish seemed stingy. Strangely there is more meat than veg in the mains. Sitting outdoors we found the smoking policy seems 'flexible' depending which guest you are. Overall not the experience the price paid would suggest.
Be the first to ReplyA fantastically enjoyable meal
Came here for a late lunch as a family of 4 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. It was almost transporting, we were seated in the back garden on a lovely hot day and felt so well looked after by the staff. They had a magical combination of being attentive, friendly and professional. We were actively encouraged to enjoy everything and to relax, they made the atmosphere fantastic. We even had little chats with the neighbouring diners, it was all very sociable. The food and drinks were delicious, we enjoyed an outstanding Sunday roast and the kidsโ meals were just as good. We will be back!

Turned up here drunk having been at Henley Regatta all day. Couldnโt understand why the General Manager wouldnโt give me a table when I had a booking. Or why there was a private function. She was too polite to call me a total idiot for booking at the end of July not the start of it! My deepest apologies are owed to her. Anyway, Iโve eaten here before and itโs great.
Be the first to ReplyFABULOUS food and brilliant service
We had a birthday celebration for my brother and there was 14 of us. The food and service was excellent. I need to have a special shout out for Becca who oversaw the service with her team and they were all exceptional. Thank you Becca for making my brothers day so special.

It was our first visit to The White Oak and I was impressed from start to finish. Our party of three and furry four legged friend were made to feel welcome upon arrival. Attentive but relaxed service, we didnโt have to wait or ask for anything. The food was excellent, We all selected different starters and mains and everyone was very pleased with their choice! Looking forward to an excuse to return and sample the desserts!
Be the first to ReplyDoesn't really live up to the hype
Taken to the White Oak by family who recommended the place, we were somewhat disappointed by it. Service staff were sweet - but completely forgot the chips that 3 of the 4 of us ordered - we had to go chasing them, which meant the rest of the meal was getting cold by the time the chips arrived. Then we asked for the dessert menu, which duly arrived ..... but nobody came to take the order and again we had to go chasing to place an order. As for wanting to pay at the end of the evening .... yet another interminable wait, despite the place not being overly busy. The food itself was nice, but not inspired, and certinaly not good value for the money being asked. Sorry, but that's how we found it. Won't be rushing back anytime soon.
Be the first to Replyutterly brilliant
We ate in a pod in the garden. I thought it might be too hot as it was a lovely day but they have a canvass top so it takes the heat out of the sun and we had a lovely breeze coming in the door. The service, the staff and the food were excellent. If I had to criticise i would say the shoulder of lamb croquette for a starter was a little lacking in lamb flavour. However I am definitely putting you on my short list of local places to go...Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Sunday Lunch
The White Oak really impressed us today. Service was friendly, professional and seamless. All the Dishes we ordered displayed the creativity and skill of the chefs, and theyโre using top quality fresh ingredients to produce really vibrant and delicious meals. Honestly, it was by far the best Sunday lunch weโve has locally since before Covid.
Be the first to ReplyEXCELLENT ... FAULTLESS FOOD AND AMBIENCE
We met with friends and had the most wonderful lunch here. The food and presentation is exquisite. Highly recommend! We ate in the garden in the sunshine and were impressed with everything we chose. The set menu is great value and the staff very knowledgeable about the ingredients in each dish on the menu.

Be the first to ReplyFabulous Fish Friday
Wow, what a truly wonderful lunch we had. We were with good long standing friends of ours so were relaxed and happy. Anna was our waitress and she was brilliant - so friendly and efficient. There was a lot of banter at the table (old friends) and Anna was so patient and helpful. We all ordered fish - hake tails for starters and pollock, sea bass and cod for our mains - all absolutely delicious and we all commented that the fish was perfectly cooked. The carrot cake and chocolate ganache for pudding were also yummy. We had a really lovely time and will be back - thank you Anna and staff at the White Oak.
Be the first to ReplyANOTHER ENJOYABLE LUNCH WITH GREAT FOOD
Great service Great food. No pictures this time, we forgot. Having been disappointed in Jan when we visited on spec when they were refurbishing, thought to try again. Though no tables available to book online, got one as a walk in. It was not over busy, both outside and inside was about 70% full. Not sure if it was manpower limiting availability. Anyway another fine relaxing enjoyable lunch.

Lovely bustling gastro pub with excellent food and service! Am used to going to the sister restaurant Three Oaks in Gerrards Cross but we thought we would head to Cookham for a change and it didn't disappoint! Thank you
Be the first to ReplySnooty bartender - wonโt be going back
Wonโt be going back here in a hurry!
Snooty bar lady didnt offer me a trial, served up bad wine, and refused to change wine.
When I told her my wine tastes bad she said โ most people sample before ordering...โ Yet she didnโt offer me a sample.... Then when I asked for something different she said โI would if Iโm a manager but Iโm not not a manager.โ Terrible excuse. Donโt waste your time or money here. Obnoxious bar lady.
Brilliant.
Four of us enjoyed excellent three course meals and were completely satisfied and wholly impressed by our experience. This is a very popular and large restaurant and busy when we visited however they maintained an excellent level of service, attention and perfect food which these days is a challenge so hats off, brilliant thank you.
