My partner and I went for a Sunday roast. We had e delicious starters but the main sirloin beef was outstanding. My partner is very fussy about the meat but today he didn’t leave anything. Also the service was great. We highly recommend it.

My wife had dinner here, full 3 courses each. Excellent restaurant food, delicious experience, will be going again.
Be the first to ReplyLovely sausages in gravy with mashaed potato.
Haven't been to the White Horse in Compton Bassett for a while since moving farther away, but went back between Christmas and New Year for old time's sake. Found out it now has new landlords. The food is still delicious and the new people seem nice. I'm a bit fussy about sausages, as even ones from top butchers have had lumps of gristle in them, but glad I took the chance, as the sausages with mashed potato and cabbage were delicious. The sausages were lovely, the mashed potato was creamy and even the cabbage was nicely cooked. The gravy with it was rich and thick. My partner had the more expensive lamb and he said that was also delicious. Another good feature is that the portions were substantial, as some places make the plates look pretty but don't put much on there, but I was comfortably full. There used to be friendly farm animals, like a pig and ram, but the fence has now been taken up. Just one change I noticed since last time. Glad they're still doing the stay a night with a meal for 2 and breakfast offer.

Their menu does change regularly but maintains high quality. At the moment, their scotch eggs are great; the lamb done two ways was superb; fish & chips also super as was the steak and ale pie. No complaints at all. Very well-recommended.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food - cosy venue, friendly service- dramatic setting!
I am a regular visitor to The White Horse Inn as a fantastic place to meet friends and family half way. It is quaint & beautiful and cosy with thatched roof and open fires the food is delicious. It also nestles at the bottom of the iconic White Horse Hill-perfect for an after dinner stroll to blow the cobwebs away. Thank you also to all the fantastic staff at the beautiful White Horse Inn for a friendly reception from all the staff and excellent attentive service. We were particularly grateful for the tea top-ups when we popped back for a post walk pudding! Looking forward to visiting

My second stay at the White Horse this time with my partner, this time as somewhere to get to Bath for the day because Bath accommodation is so expensive. We drive to the Landown park and ride. No change since I stayed here last time on my own on a stop over whilst doing the White Horse trail on my eMTB. The same great comfy rooms, great ale and the best food, it really is nice 👌 and bi e storage 👍 I can't recommend the White Horse Inn enough. I'm sure I'll be back at some point, either solo with my bike or with my partner again.
Be the first to ReplyA charming country pub in Compton Bassett
A charming country pub. Food was excellent with a good selection. Service was very attentive and welcoming. A very pleasant evening and would thoroughly recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyStayed a night here - perfect
Booked online and stayed a night here this week as we were visiting local national trust & historic sights. Huge car park, a friendly & efficient service. Our room was in a building onsite and was delightful. Nice and warm on a damp day, the bed was huge (bigger than a super king) a spotlessly clean bathroom, nice and quiet and a very reasonable cost which included an excellent breakfast. Thank-you!

Not much on the plate, expensive for what you get, I left hungry as did my partner ! It looked very arranged, even pretty, but not much of it, same for the afters.. won’t be going there again… !
Be the first to ReplyDinner for two
Went to White Horse, on recommendation from a friend and have to say, what a good recommendation it was. Attentive staff, nice table, lovely food, (all three courses were delicious) and superb fine wine selection! As it is not often you see Mersault or Montrachet on the wine list! in a country pub! Great night, great food, fabulous wine, we will come back!
Be the first to ReplyTwo day stopover on the way home
Four of us stopped for a two day stopover on our way home from Cornwall to Lincolnshire, clean and equipped rooms detached from the pub, very accommodating and helpful staff, food was excellent, plenty to do in the area, good walks if that’s your thing, if not lots of places to visit including national trust, we all would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful Inn and will certainly revisit again in the not to distant future.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and an enjoyable stay in a lovely setting
We stayed here overnight in July 2022 whilst I was visiting business clients in Calne, and had an excellent evening meal. Everything was tasty, fresh and prepared with obvious care and attention to detail, and the service was warm, friendly and \ttentive without being obtrusive. We probably need to leave a review for the hotel/B&B separately but suffice it to say that the rooms (located in an annex) were comfortable, clean, well-appointed and quiet. Breakfast was first-rate too with lovely home-made granola

Excellent food in a lovely village setting. We shall certainly be back for another meal in the not too distant future and I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyLovely evening
We had a really lovely evening with great food and service. I was lucky to get one of the 2 remaining pies (as it was delicious!) but all 4 of us had thoroughly tasty meals. Service was friendly and attentive without being too much.
Be the first to ReplyA great mini-break at this charming pub
We stayed a couple of nights here and loved it. Staff were friendly and helpful, Food was delicious - definitely a cut above the pub norm and the best breakfast I've ever had. Location perfect for walking (many trails and routes accessible directly from the pub) and for driving to Avebury and other Wilts sites. I would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyA great inn to relax in with friendly , yet professional staff and excellent food
Want a great inn to eat at away from the noise and hustle of the A4? It is just 2miles off it? or a place to have a break and relax in whilst exploring the amazing heritage sites nearby? The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly staff yet very professional. Wanted to eat outside so led us to the garden with menus and a jug of water . We chose the express lunch menu and ordered fish & chips -as other have said the best fish & chips we have had in a long time and very well presented, We thought good value at £10,other have said thought not good value for money with amount of food but we did think it was value for money as the quality was so good, prefer to pay a bit more for excellent food than poor quality but cheap and a large amount For pudding we chose from a selection of ice cream dishes, again the remarks above applied - most tasty ,good quality and well presented dishes Loved the cloth napkins rather than paper serviettes! Dogs are also welcomed The staff were very welcoming and created a relaxed atmosphere We will be returning soon!
Be the first to ReplyOur Stay at The White Horse Inn
Christian and his team made us feel extremely welcome. We stayed for 3 nights and the breakfast and dinners on each occasion were excellent. I probably had the best fish and chips I have ever tasted
Be the first to ReplyNice village pub. Small size mains.
Nice village pub, very friendly. Dog friendly in the bar area. We liked the menu and thought the starter and puddings were great. We both had the scotch egg starter and loved it. I had the pie and mash which was really tasty but the pie was tiny (slightly smaller than a tennis ball) and it came with just 3 small pieces of carrot. My husband had the fish dish, very tasty but a very small al la Carte portion. Nice mains but a bit pricey for the portion size. A few more vegetables and a larger piece of fish and our rating would have been 5 rather than 4. We both had the apple crumble which was very nice. Overall really nice, but you definitely need 3 courses and won’t be full. And usually I can only manage 2 courses.

Delightful little village setting, the owner/landlord makes one feel at home. The food was excellent, I had fish and chips with minted mushy peas, fish fresh chips the best I have ever eaten and the peas perfect. Followed by a chocolate dessert with ice cream. Stuffed but totally satisfied.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Saturday lunch!
What a lovely lunch! Have eaten here before Covid struck. Standard even better. The service was excellent, lovely staff. Food was amazing, "best pie ever "was my husband's comment on the pork and cider pie. Chocolate salami pudding a bit of a revelation! Would highly recommend!

Stunning food, beautiful surroundings and excellent service. Young staff with fantastic customer skills. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Frangipane was probably the best pudding I have ever had
Be the first to ReplyCharming, cosy pub with great food
My boyfriend took me here for a Valentines dinner. The food was incredible and atmosphere was cosy with lovely lights & cansldles everywhere. It felt very romantic.
I have already recommended to some of my friends and look forward to returning again soon!
Fantastic All Round
Me and my partner came for our Valentines meal, staff were all very friendly, atmosphere was relaxing, food came fast and was delicious from starter to dessert and the wine we were recommended was perfect.

The pub itself is attractive, clean and well maintained, and set in a pretty village.
The food is delicious and beautifully presented with a well designed menu to choose from.
Great food in a great location with great staff. It is now on our list of family favourites.
