Poor service and deteriorating food quality
The cheese fondue was too diluted & tasteless - the raclette was burned & service was so slow ; inspite of very few people in the restaurant - I have been there many times but the restaurant is a hit or a miss ! So disappointed to see there drop in Quality and service - this was one of my favourite restaurant - Max the owner is so unfriendly - it’s like he is doing us a favour to dine there … so cold and unfriendly - he wasn’t like that before
Be the first to ReplyPerfect for a Christmas party!
We had a staff Christmas party here in December and everyone loved it! Everyone ordered a variety of different dishes and all of us left very satisfied. I loved my cheese fondue, along with various things to dip in, as well as the carpaccio-style starter. Really friendly owner too and, as I said above, the ideal place for a festive meal!

The Swiss Chalet is a cozy European restaurant hidden in the not-so-noticeable Hart Avenue in Tsim Sha Tsui. The wooden décor and rustic design of the dining rooms resemble those of an Alpine chalet, just as the restaurant is named. Servers are hardworking and accommodating. Most of the customers are big families who have known the manager and chef since before the millennium. Highly recommend the crispy and thinly sliced Hot Melted Raclette Cheese with New Potatoes Pickled Onions and Cornichons (HK$78/taster portion) and the flavorful Beef Tartar flavored with Calvados with toast (HK$198/as an appetizer).

We ordered some fondue and the quantity we got for the price was a bit disappointing, having had fondue in France and Switzerland it felt really unsatisfactory. The chocolate fondue was quite good.

The Swiss Chalet is one of the few Swiss restaurants in Hong Kong. As a Swiss graduate, this is some heartwarming food that I wanna have every once in a while. Bündnertäller $168 A platter with air-dried ham, bacon, beef, salami and pickles. Something that would never disappoint you and must be paired with wine. Walliser Raclette mit Häpperä $128 Hot melted cheese would just never go wrong! Jeegermeischer Fondüü mit Chrüütli und a chili Enzian $298 Cheese fondue with white wine and and mushrooms. The mushrooms enhanced the umami of the pot. But the fondue was lighter than what I had before they moved. Enzian, a liquor produced with the root of gentian flower that is similar to Suze, was also added into the mixture. Overall the food quality was good. Servers were attentive. Better to go with more friends to share more dishes!

Twenty years ago while staying in Hong Kong my wife and I had the pleasure of eating at The Swiss Chalet. We ended a cruise in Hong Kong this November and stayed a few extra days to do a little sightseeing. I had done a little research before leaving on the cruise and found that there a Swiss Chalet restaurant in business there and it was near the Hong Kong Sheraton we were staying in. The hotel gave me directions and it was within walking distance. The neighbor and restaurant entrance looked a little different from what I remembered, but it was 20 years. We ventured inside and found that some of the decor seemed the same but still different. A gentlemen came over and after talking for a few minutes told us they had been in business for over 20 years but had moved from the building next door a few years prior. The menu looked good so we returned the next evening for dinner. Service was good and not rushed. My wife had the Veal Cordon Bleu and I had the Osso Bucco. We agreed that both our meals were very good with the meat tender and juicy. Prices were reasonable. We would return to eat here if in Hong Kong again.

Having last visited the Swiss Chalet in October 2004, my mother and I decided to go there, her for the first time. We were greeted by owner Max on our arrival and the food we chose - schnitzel with veal - was fabulous. Highly recommended

If you want decent Swiss cuisine do no more search. Reasonably priced (for HK) and authentic dishes. Make sure you try some of the Swiss specialty drinks.
Be the first to ReplyNice experience
Location and decor great, nice atmosphere, staff were ok, food was interesting. A little heavy for my party's palate but flavourful nonetheless. Particularly liked the spinach/cheese fondue which was less rich compared to the traditional cheese and bread.
