I was so excited to spend Labor Day here and paid an expensive price for a Vip table hoping to get an experience that would fit the price. However, I've realized with this place it doesn't matter what you pay them. The staff at surf lodge will still treat you like crap and rip you off in the process with dishonest representations of what you will get and not apologize when they are in the wrong. Awful experience with absolutely no customer service and a staff that is immature with a terrible attitude hoping to empty out customer's wallets with no consideration or nice treatment of the people keeping them afloat. Long story short the rest of my party who I had arranged in advance with surf lodge to join my table were not allowed in and I was required to pay for 3 extra slots that were not used. Surf lodge took zero accountability and on top of it all and dealt with the situation with unapologetic bitterness. They made us pay anyway and denied what I emailed them , also lying about being able to split the bill with the rest of my group. This place deserves to go out of business and I will NOT be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyDo NOT go to this rip off of a place.
We had a group of 14 people so we had a 2 course price fixe menu served "family" style that we paid $150 each for. They barely gave us enough food for half the people at the table. Appetizer was 12 pieces of bread with butter and 3 pieces of burrata to split between 14. Main course was 3 small plates of pasta and a few steaks (the steak was probably the only thing they gave us enough of). We asked for another dish of pasta since each of us got only about 7 noodles and we were charged for the extra plate. Additionally, we stayed in the hamptons so we had about a 30 min ride out to montauk and my 32 year old husband asked to use the bathroom while we waited for our reservation. The response from the asshole in the front was "didn't your mother teach you to use the bathroom before you leave the house?"

food was so overpriced, the crowd is just what you would expect.. a mix of younger 20-30s and then older adults partying like they're in college still. restaurant waitstaff was nice, security was friendly. bartender in the inside bar was definitely rude. absolutely make a reservation in advance or you are not getting in and they will make you look and feel stupid. crowd things out after 9 on sunday. i would never stay at this hotel for the price id you're looking for anything relaxing. good sunsets from the deck though.

Charged me $300 for missing a reservation the night after we ate there and got food poisoning ( most likely from there)! Not willing to talk on the phone/ cannot talk to a human. Food was mediocre and ambiance/ service was fine. For spending $600 on dinner and drinks for 4 and then the slap in the face of no understanding I will not recommend or ever go again! Head to si si in east Hampton instead of this place full of jerks!
Be the first to ReplyThe staff was rude.
The environment is awful and the people we're classist (both upper and lower). Was asked to leave because of talking. Very unclassy. If your looking for a restaurant on the water do not come here. You can find a much better restaurant with better people and food
Be the first to ReplyLaura is amazing.
Best of all time. She made our experience extra special. 10/10. We love her
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely terrible service.
They sat us for brunch, gave us menus, took 20 mins to come back, and then told us the kitchen was closed. Avoid at all costs.
Be the first to ReplyDon't go here.
They'll let you buy drinks and as soon as you swipe your card they kick you out onto the street with no warning. Worst experience I've ever had in Montauk and I've lived here since I was 3.
Be the first to ReplyNot bad but not great.
Nice ambiance and at night I'm sure it's kicking but for lunch it's a yawn. The service was slow, and it took 10 minutes to get 2 canned beers to the table. No prompt water refills and some gnarly inedible fries didn't help. I am sure that in Montauk there are other options to better maximize your clams.

It's a decent place to go out with a group of friends, but I don't really get the hype - definitely better places to go. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and every time I went to use the bathroom there was a new person throwing up....they are not cleaned throughout the night and are really nasty. On a side note, I would not recommend eating here - they took a 9:30pm reservation and then messed up the food order and instead of fixing the issue, they just said the kitchen was closed and some people didn't get food at all.

The Surf Lodge is really cool if you're visiting from a really boring place like Cincinnati.
Be the first to ReplyHave never had a pleasant experience.
Staff treats me like I'm poor and don't belong.
Be the first to ReplyOkay this place is absolutely INCREDIBLE.
I would say there is a reason why it is legendary. I came to the Hamptons for one of my best friends bachelorette party and this was the location of our last hoorah. It could not have been anymore perfect. When we got there we were really surprised because you cannot actually part at the surf lodge and there is no valet. You have to part at the train station that is right down the street and walk over. We didn't have a problem doing that but we definitely wondered if it was safe. Once we made it there we walked up to the ropes and got our ID checked we had already reserved a table. When we got there it was around 5:30 and it was the perfect time to arrive. The place was not too crowded and we got to our table right away. The waitress mentioned that we had the best seat in the house. We were seated to the right of the stage if you are looking at it. We didn't know what to expect so we ordered a 6L bottle of Rose and go the party started. Before we knew it, there were security guards by the stage and Wyclef got on stage. Let me tell you, what a party. There was something magical about being tipsy watching the sun go down with your best friends listening to live music. If you are in the Hamptons don't miss out and experience for yourself.
Be the first to ReplyOhh the legendary Surf Lodge.
I just hopped off a plane and made it to Montauk when my friends took me to dinner here with zero warning of what I was getting into. Here's what you should know:1. Make a reservation if you can. Otherwise, it can be harder to get a table.2. Crispy tuna rice is delicious. The rest of the food is okay... typical things you would find over the summer in the Hamptons and at that higher price point.3. Be prepared to pay up... you're paying for the vibes4. Music and party game can be wild... but the crowd can be younger depending on the day so check the set list before you head over.5. Staff is nice overall.
Be the first to ReplyI was waiting in line with a few friends and the security
I was waiting in line with a few friends and the security gentleman said we could not get in without getting a table. Again letting in 50 people ahead of my group to the bar area, again the gentleman refused to let me or my friends in without paying thousands of dollars for a table. There were plenty of people in the bar area getting drinks. He was judging me and my group, and let other people in, without letting my group in. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. The gentleman was short and covered with tattoos. I would think being in customer service he would have learned how to interact appropriately with customers. This establishment really needs help with their cultural competencies.
Be the first to ReplyTaylor our server was absolutely AMAZING.
I have had tables at busy bars before but never have I noticed what a good job a server was doing, she was so sweet and fun and checked on us so often GIVE THIS GIRL A RAISE she genuinely made the night. The vibes are fun and music is good, honestly the food was also so freaking good like the chef did not have to go that hard but dang they really did so KUDOS!!! The music outside does end VERY early so if you're getting a table outside just be aware of that bc they will not let you stay outside bc of the noise. The only downer was how genuinely mean the bouncers were, I don't even want to say it bc I am sure they deal with the most entitled a-hole customers on the reg but being short and annoyed is one thing but this was a bit over the top, something may have happened recently that they were all on edge so idk. Taylor is my girl, that chef is amazing those tenders and fries were divine!
Be the first to ReplyI don't recommendation The Surf Lodge for the following
I don't recommendation The Surf Lodge for the following reasons: Very expensive for a "motel-style" accommodations - they charged $1000/night! It's not on the ocean but on Montauk Lake. They did not provide ample towels, no wash cloths. Lights were out in the bathroom. They did provide beach towels however no beach chairs or umbrellas which we ended up purchasing. The TV was Roku - you couldn't get regular channels. There were no plastic cups in the bathroom to use. They did provide a simple continental breakfast, but it was the same everyday. The place is a hot scene on the weekends for a young crowd, so parking was limited - we had to remind staff to save us a parking spot. When we called to inform them on all these things, they didn't offer a partial refund or a "free night". We won't be back to the Surf Lodge.
Be the first to ReplyNo one informed us what time the kitchen closes, our order
No one informed us what time the kitchen closes, our order was taken down wrong (food and drinks), we were very rushed, I asked the hostess for a candle as we were celebrating our friends birthday and she rudely answered they don't have candles and"you can try the market in town". We were then kicked out by security so they could set up for the concert. We waited on line for 2 hours only to be told at that point they will not let in patrons for GA. Really disappointed about this experience. We have been supporting Surf Lodge/Snow Lodge for years now but this left a terrible taste in our mouth and we will certainly reconsider going back.
Be the first to ReplySHOCKING experience here.
If i could, I'd give this place negative stars. I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant ever. Literally. My sister-in-law made reservations for four of us to have dinner on a Thursday night, which apparently cost $75pp just to hold the res? Once we arrived, we were quickly taken to a picnic table, where two other patrons were sitting - we sat on the other side of the table - community seating, no problem. Then, some vicious woman appeared and yelled at us to move down (closer to the two women seated at the end). She gave no context or reason but spoke to us like children who had been misbehaving. It was quite shocking. She then barked that two other people were going to sit on the OTHER side of us - that these tables seat 8 people. The picnic tables aren't huge and that would absolutely not be the most comfortable, but we're amenable people and would have gone along with being smooshed between two couples, but the outrageous tone and punitive instructions completely turned us off. I let her know how I felt, that she was rude and there was no reason for her to speak to us this way, at which point she scurried away to do something else in the restaurant and then swung back by to confront me and yell in my face that "Nobody has EVER called her rude before" (which was aggressively rude and childish - so meta) and then she stomped off. At this point, sticking around to be abused when we'd paid 300 just to walk through the door was not going to happen and we all decided to walk out. Fortunately, my SIL was able to get the deposit refunded and speak to a GM who was super nice and apologetic - we honestly appreciated him trying to make good by offering a free drink and other accommodations, but there was really no chance for any kind of redemption at that point. This place is a scene... and not a good one. If you have any sort of self-respect, you'd be better off dining someplace else; like Scarpetta, Harvest, Duryea's or the Gig Shack.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing ambience but food is so over priced.
very average menu. chef does a great job but nothing to ride home about.
Be the first to ReplyThis is not the place for an intimate dinner.
It has a bar/party atmosphere you would find in Fort Lauderdale, don't expect to hear anyone talk unless you're screening across the table. It was just all-around an interesting experience. Also, imagine paying a premium price to be seated at a picnic table and share it with another party--just nuts. The atmosphere: was a party. You can't hear yourself think. The staff: was relatively friendly and tried to be helpful, but they couldn't hear anything. The food: average at a high mark up.Cleanliness: the table was fine; I don't know about the deck bar, though.

This place is THE WORST! I could go on and on but suffice it to say if you want to experience an utterly obnoxious attitude obviously set by the horrid trashy owners, do hang out there. I guess the success lies in its locale and the few options in Montauk. I've rarely had such an unpleasant experience at a venue.
Be the first to ReplyMy MOH got a table for all 11 girls on my bachelorette
My MOH got a table for all 11 girls on my bachelorette weekend. We didn't have to wait long to be seated at all! Marc Jacobs had his pop up so we looked around until they walked us to our table. They did make me take off my sash but I didn't care/ wasn't surprised. We got the last dinner reservation possible so we could hang out for a bit after eating the DJ was great. Such good vibes! Food was BOMB. 10/10
Be the first to ReplyNever been treated worse in my life.
Was there on June 25. Ordered a drink for my wife and I around 4, which by the way was close to $50 in total with tip, and before I could sit back down staff was walking around telling everyone to leave immediately. Only explanation was they had to "clean" the area. There was no cleaning, they had already staged every table for bottle service for a band that we were told didn't start for 2 more hours. The place at the time was maybe 15% capacity. We tried to quickly finish our drinks that they gladly sold to us literally less than 5 min before and in a matter of minutes 3 bouncers were in my face telling us to leave. We weren't the only ones they treated like this, there were a handful of others. If I managed this place I'd be embarrassed.
