We spent a morning climbing Point Dume- loved that there's parking here plus our friend recommended it. Sand covered patio outside was perfect to enjoy a sunny day. Light lunch & everything was delicious & fresh- manager stopped by was quite friendly. Waiter was super on top of things. Indoor decor also lovely & spacious. Restroom was clean- definitely worth repeat visit

We drove two hours in traffic to come to this place and it did not disappoint. We are from Texas and we were on our last night from Spring Break and started driving back after going here. The food was amazing, the views were perfect, and the service was great! Definitely 10/10!

Be the first to ReplyWent here for my little sister's birthday lunch.
Got in just the nick of time for valet parking ($10) or else we would have to find street parking. Seated right away. Had reservations for party of 8. Service took a while tho. Our waiter must have been busy because he rarely checked in on us. Had to walk over to the service counter a few times to ask for things (ex refill on water, utensils, etc). Food was ok. We shared the calamari. I had the salmon. Nothing too fancy. Sis has the tuna tartare. Dessert was tiramisu (that was yummy) with a side of coffee.. Would I go back again? Maybe.

I try to get to this restaurant each time I visit Malibu, it's one of my favorites! Right on the water with a beautiful view! The restaurant is lined with windows and multiple tables at the windows, so you always have a great view! This last time, we ordered the Asian Brussels sprouts that were SO good! And I had the pumpkin sage ravioli- oh my word! And my daughter had mushroom risotto- so good! Do not miss the flourless chocolate cake for dessert- literally divine!

I can't believe I passed it going to Point Dume all these years! The ambiance is perfect - right by the beach and that airy feel that Malibu restaurants get perfectly. Our server, Diana, was so sweet and kind to me and my parents. The food was delicious - amazing calamari, tuna - and we ordered so much that we had to take a burger and some seafood tacos home! This restaurant is way better than Paradise Cove. Highly recommend. Delicious, fresh and beautiful. What could be better?

Be the first to ReplyWe come have brunch to the restaurant often.
Today we headed over to have a nice Sunday meal. Starting with the girl at the reception counter she had a bad attitude and didn't make us feel welcome at all. The french server we had wasn't the greatest either, charged us more on our brunch cocktails and was not attentive. We come here on Sundays to enjoy our day not to deal with rude personnel and have our day ruined.
Be the first to ReplyThe host/service inside the restaurant is lackluster.
The host , the food and the service inside is not worth coming back. NOW why did I give them any stars at all? Because of the Valet guys! The most sweetest and attentive personal! I attempted to come back ONLY for them. This restaurant has a great location but nothing special. For reference we got the Lobster Mac&Cheese/the chopped salad/ and shrimp tacos.

The Tacos and dessert were what I ordered and I wanted round 2!!! Service was great, and drinks excellent!! A lot of fun right near the sand!

I love the service and the view of the beach is amazing.

I've been wanting to try this place for some time now and finally got to go this weekend. Just as others would agree, this place is all about the location. Who wouldn't wanna be able to see the beach as they dine? The restaurant itself is beautiful. The service was decent. The food however is not worth the price. I ordered the Maine lobster lenguini which is about $50 dollars but to be fair you are paying for the pound of lobster. That being said my lobster had an odd texture. I've never ate lobster that was really chewy. Maybe it was just over cooked, idk. But to pay for a $50 plate, I would expect better. My husband ordered a skirt steak which he said had a good flavor but also wasn't worth the price he paid which was about $30 for a little bit of steak and some thin fries. I had to send mine back as I couldn't get passed the chewiness of meal and I ordered the shrimp tacos instead. The shrimp tacos were good, would be a little hard to mess up a taco that just consist of shrimp slaw and aioli. It made up for my lobster but again wasn't worth $35 dollars I paid for two tacos. My husbands drink was about $20 but he said it was worth it has it was delicious and was hefty. I would say maybe their brunch is better as I saw quite a few people eating brunch in the patio and/or possibly coming back to just enjoy the view and a few drinks. It wasn't the worst food I've had but just wasn't worth what we spent. Maybe it's just the price for the view.

Amazing!!! Thank you as always!!! Food and service were great! Love Italian food! Bartender was so good.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for dinner last night with my family.
It's a cute little restaurant right on the beach. Great location. The man at the front and I didn't get off to the greatest start. He came off a tad rude and impatient but maybe it was me being confusing since I was trying to explain I had kids in our party however either way he wasn't the friendliest. Wait staff was amazing and friendly and quick so they made up for it. Food was good, oysters were amazing, fish tacos were great, sweet potato fries were so good. I'd go again maybe just me and my husband. It got pretty pricey with our family of 6 but it's Malibu so I'm assuming that's just Ike way of it. Seafood all was super fresh. Definitely enjoyed this restaurant.

Wow! The view! We came here early on a Sunday for big birthday brunch in March and not crowded at all. I can imagine it gets quite crowded in summertime. The staff seemed pretty confused about where to seat us, party of 8, but after 10 to 15 and lots of huddling they sat us in a beautiful room upstairs. Seriously beautiful views, big windows. The ordering went very smoothly. Everyone's dishes looked fresh. Notably the croque madame ( I added the egg) was by far one of the best I've had. The side of fresh fruit was great. The fresh salmon was perfect. The coffee was great. No oatmilk, but they have almond milk. Did i mention the view?? Incredible. Quiet to hear each other talking. Parking was valet $10 but typical in LA or Malibu. They were nice guys. Go for a special event or with friends. You won't regret it.

Though the location, view, and food were all good, the service we just received was horrible. Important Context: My wife and I often become friendly with our waiters at restaurants, get to know their names, and typically have great experiences with them overall, to the point that waiters remember us when we come back and try to get us seated in their sections. Now check out the experience we just had at The Sunset. I am white, and my wife is black. When we were seated, we were placed in the only other part of the restaurant where there were black people seated. Side note... I'm realizing that this is an extremely common occurrence, irrespective of SES, location, restaurant type, food quality, etc (implicit bias?). I noticed we were seated right next to two black women, but I didn't think much about it because it happens to us often... and because we had a window seat with an ocean view. Then we met our waiter. Our waiter, Hector, seemed nice, but he was not helpful or proactive. We were asking questions about the menu because of my gluten allergy and my PREGNANT wife's dietary sensitivities. Both of these factors are very important, and most places we eat at take them seriously. We hardly got any help when we asked our questions. As soon as the dinner plates hit the table, before we had even tasted the food, Hector zipped by to ask us how everything was. Then he just disappeared. Now picture this next part as you read what's next. We noticed that Hector was serving and being extremely responsive to every other table around us (that were made up of all white parties). But with us and the table of black women right next to us, Hector would constantly pass us up. We tried to make eye contact, said his name, but regardless what we did, we were completely disregarded and ignored... by our waiter of all people! All while every other table around us was being taken care of the whole time. On a basic foundational level, this looks very bad. It doesn't matter how you try to spin it. I had been without a drink refill for at least 20 mins, and I needed something for my food (but at this point it was getting cold as we were trying to get Hector's attention). It got to the point that I needed to go find him. I said something to him, and even that didn't change our experience. We still were left waiting for long amounts of time, though our plates were stacked up and our credit card was sitting out on the table. None of the obvious queues mattered because Hector wouldn't even look at our table or the table right next to us. Keep in mind that we were right in the middle of his section (surrounded by tables of all white clients). Finally my wife (who is almost 9 months pregnant) was getting sleepy and uncomfortable from all of the waiting we had been doing that she got up and asked the host if she could speak to the manager. After putting in a complaint and sharing about our experience, the manager didn't come over to our table to check in with us once, didn't make an apology to both of us or the other table next to us, nor did he prompt Hector to apologize to us either. All the manager did was ask Hector to bring us our check. And ironically Hector went to the table of black women next to us instead of coming to us. There's no telling what the manager said to describe my wife to Hector but clearly he named her race.Side note... When my wife got up to talk to the manager, I asked the two black women sitting next to us about their experience of Hector's service. "Terrible." "Awful." "All we've been doing is waiting the whole time we've been here." One of them said she had to wait almost 30 minutes just to get her Sierra Mist! Get this. Even though these women arrived and were seated BEFORE us and had now finished eating, a white couple was seated AFTER us, were served, finished eating after us, and that couple still got their check and left BEFORE the two black women beside us were even give their check! Again, now matter how you spin it, this all looks very, very bad. Though the racial bias of the workers at this restaurant might have been subconscious and unintentional, it was blatantly obvious... painfully obvious. Embarrassingly obvious. The manager was careless, and he needs to be doing a lot more to assure that his hosts and waiters are providing ALL of his Malibu clientele is being taken care of. A good place to start is by doing some basic racial bias training and provide his employees with consistent feedback and evaluations based upon him actually asking people about their experience of their service.
Be the first to ReplyHad a wonderful late lunch here that really hit the spot.
I'd been hiking around the Malibu cliffs and I was exhausted. On my way back to my car I saw this place right on the beach. I thought it might just be a Malibu version of a tourist trap, but I saw the menu had spaghetti bolognese which I love and was exactly the thing I needed to refuel.I started with the kale salad with apples, pecorino, cranberries, and almonds. It was an excellent flavor combination and was very well presented. The spaghetti bolognese was also excellent and well-proportioned. I got the pistachio tres leches (to go since I was not wanting a sugar crash while driving on the 10) and it too was very high-quality. The service was great and laid back but also prompt and attentive. Great place that capped a great day at the beach.
Be the first to ReplyFood was amazing.
Scallops were very good and seasoned perfect. The best calamari I've ever had. The Burratta salad was good but I'm from SC and our tomatoes aren't as hard as Cali tomatoes I guess. Only 3 stars because waitress wasn't that good and we sat for 7-8 minutes without refills.
Be the first to ReplyFood quality is good.
Beautiful view. There is something wrong with the ventilation on the lower floor; sewer smell so we asked the manager to be moved upstairs.
Be the first to ReplyCelebrated a special occasion with a brunch there.
Handled our large party fairly well. Was not crowded for a Sunday morning. It's been cold so think it's a bit quieter than normal. I parked a ways down the road to avoid the cluster I've witnessed previously at the valet. Aware this is not always possible. Today was easy parking. The upstairs dining areas are so pretty with the big windows and spectacular view. The food was good enough. When Eggs Benedict arrived it was a bit cold, muffin not toasted and eggs were overdone. The croque, potatoes, pancakes and fruit were all pretty good. Service was pleasant. The bar area looks like a nice place to hang. It's really just an incredible location and a cool older property that's been nicely restored.

IF YOU ARE GLUTEN-FREE, GLUTEN INTOLERANT, OR CELIAC (like two of the people in our party) NEVER dine here!! They are not safe. They indicate recipes and dishes that can be made gluten free, such as the pasta, but they do not follow through and will still serve gluten meals. As we ordered we indicated having a gluten allergy and ordered them when the food arrived we clarified with the server that this dish was gluten free which they said yes. As we were finishing our meal another server stopped by and questioned why we were eating the gluten version of the meal!!! Bc we didn't know?! They only offered an apology & they were not genuine about the situation. We will never be returning and this is not safe if you have any allergies.

WOW! We went for a special occasion to this very pricy restaurant. The sunset view was totally blocked by a fence which boggles the mind for a place literally called THE SUNSET. The tuna tartare was very good as were the fries. We ordered a steak medium rare. It came out well done. We sent it back and got another one that was medium well. A guy in a jacket came out and apologized and brought another that was well done. Another guy in a jacket cam out to ask if everything was ok. NO! We have been trying to eat and you can't cook a basic steak! The Yellow tail sashimi was good but the portion was very stingy compared to ANY other restaurant that serves sashimi.Very expensive!
Be the first to ReplyVery good service.
Fun menu and appetizers were delicious. Ambience and ocean view fantastic. The 50 dollar Lobster plate disappointed us. Quality and size of the lobster was subpar. Still highly recommend.

Such a cute place located right by the beach! Dine in or take out and sit right in front of the ocean. The claim chowder was delicious and the pancake were to die for! Seat by the windows.
Be the first to ReplyI have to say, I have been all over the world eating in
I have to say, I have been all over the world eating in restaurants, and I worked in restaurants for 25 years, and this is the worst service I think I have received in a bar setting. We were there to enjoy a day at the beach, and for that it was perfect. But, in the 3 plus hours we were there, we had the server come to the table 3 times, and 2 of those times we had to wave them down. The server forgot to ring in one of our drinks, and after 30mins, I got the attention of the busboy to get her for us. She brought us 2 drinks, said one was on her for forgetting, and said she was sorry. The only saving grace was the busboy that actually did attend to people well. Even after all that, I was hoping to give constuctive critisism to the manager, so as we were leaving I ask to speak with them. A lady said she was the manager, and as I explained what had happened, she said that they always get busy when it's happy hour. When we first arrived around 3:15pm, there were 4 people at the bar, 4 people at a table, and the 2 of us. I'm sorry, but that was not that many people to be waiting on. I told her that if we'd known we would be treated that way, we would have asked to sit in the restaurant and not the bar. She then called the waitress over in front of me and the rest of the bar clientele to ask her if she had treated us that way. As a former manager, I know that you never talk to servers or embarrass them in front of clientele. If that's the way that management treats their employees, it's no wonder they treat their customers in kind.
