I had the Cioppino and my wife had the lobster. The Cioppino was just as good as other high end restaurants.

After a month's refuge in Carmel (from the icy Northeast), our celebratory "final-night-out" meal at this 55-year-old mainstay was easily in our top 3 favorite experiences, and probably my favorite of all. From the host's greeting, to the cheerful staff in the gorgeous conservatory room where we dined among white geraniums in full bloom, and on to the fantastic meal, we loved all of it. I had the Dungeness crab/artichoke "pot" which was a cross between a lush crab chowder and molten crab cake (but light, and irresistible!), followed by the cioppino special that was among the best I've ever had. My husband had the grilled prawns for his appetizer, and the grilled ahi tuna entree. (We are both fitness freaks, thank goodness, and shared everything - no regrets or balking from the scale this morning!. Whatever you do, do *not* listen to anyone who says this restaurant is "for tourists.". NO, it is for people who love excellent restaurants that celebrate special occasions, as well as for regulars who were enjoying their meals in the more casual bar area, which includes corner tables, some near the fireplace. It is the classic that restaurants long gone wish they could have become! GO!

My wife and I spent our Valentine's Day Dinner at The Sardine Factory and we were not disappointed. Everything from the warm welcome, the great service from our server, romantic ambiance in the Conservatory Dining area, to the delicious food 5 stars
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great experience all the way around.
This is the second time my wife and I have eaten at the Sardine Factory in the last few years and it does not disappoint. While it is in the middle of the tourist-heavy area of Cannery Row and the aquarium, and doesn't look like much from the outside, it is like stepping back in time (in a good way) passing through the front door. An elegant interior and a cozy, old world charm define the bar and dining room. It's very pleasant and inviting for an upscale or romantic experience. The food was fantastic all the way around. We started with a round of cocktails, including one of the specialty drinks, a strawberry lemon drop, for my wife. She loved the freshness of the strawberries in the drink. We followed drinks with some appetizers and the chowder all of which were excellent. To be honest, by the time we were done with appetizers we were full. Very generous portions and hard not to finish. For entrees, I had the filet and my wife had the lobster tail; a strategic choice so we could share and both enjoy some surf and turf. Both were good excellent. It was a bit odd that the lobster wasn't served with drawn butter, but it was tasty just the same. Perhaps the most pleasantly surprising part of the evening was the very robust conversations we had with two different sommeliers. With a large wine list we appreciated the help in navigating it. We want to try something new. We explained what we liked, and why, and gave them a price point that we wanted. Both clearly had a deep knowledge of their list and absolutely nailed what we were looking for. I never felt like they were trying to sell me something. It was a great experience with both of them. The only slight disappointment came at the end of the evening when we were enjoying our coffee and digestifs: they were out of tiramisu. Ultimately I think we were both relived because we were already so full neither of us really wanted dessert. It was more like we were playing a game of dessert chicken with one another at that point. While it is not inexpensive to eat that kind of meal at the Sardine Factory, there is more than enough value in the food and experience to justify splurging. I highly recommend trying it.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a decent experience here.
The reservations were completely booked but we were able to walk in and find a table within about 15 minutes. The cocktails were pretty good; I had a mezcal drink that I enjoyed. The house Cabernet Sauvignon was good and reasonably priced. I would not recommend the cheesy house bread. The crab stuffed mushrooms were ok. The calamari steak was tough in texture. The ribeye was pretty good. The lobster ravioli was good. There was live music and the ambiance was nice; we were seated next to a fireplace which really was a nice touch on a cold evening.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful immaculate vibes after a day in Monterrey.
Staff was super professional and punctual without making you feel out of place. Just a. Gorgeous gorgeous restaurant. We liked our food as well, but I can't get over that space we were in. I had a steak she had I think a Seafood pasta, and we had our first time trying abalone to start. Oh my god forgot about that delicious abalone, not quite like escargot as I was led to believe from the aquarium informant. We both had juice and we didn't break the bank, overall very romantic and a great date for two kids. Loved it haha

The service was great, the food came quickly, and my filet minion was cooked to perfection. The wine list had at least 300 wines to choose from. Everything was a bit pricy, but I guess thats what you expect from a Michelin star restaraunt.

Wow. Where to start, I came into the Sardine Factory a few nights ago, with my Girlfriend, and was blown away. Kris at the bar made us a mean round of strawberry lemon drops. He also is a super personable guy who is easy to talk to, which helps with the mood when you're on a date. Then we were shown through to the wine cellar and given a history lesson on the place by the AGM, Spencer. He took the time to walk us through, sit us at our table in the atrium, and work as the liaison between the chef, sommelier, and our server.Let me tell you, I have never before understood the idea of going to a restaurant for a date. The experience never matches up to expectations. However, at the Sardine factory, we had the sommelier, Stephen, come to our table multiple times and answer all of our questions. This was so nice because he was checking on us without us having to ask for him. Then we had our server Antonio taking care of things I didn't even know that I needed. Refills on drinks and bread without asking. He came out promptly multiple times to check on everything and it never felt overbearing. Also, Eddie, our busser was so attentive and kind. I felt like he would catch something falling off the table before I even knocked it over. Throughout the evening, Spencer came by our table multiple times and was able to chat with us about everything. Between Stephen and Spencer, there was no agony over any of the menu choices or wine choices.Bro, if all that isnt enough, they serve gelato inside of an ice swan. Unreal. Hopefully I can increase my income so I can start coming here more often. Crazy.

And it's still going! High end bartenders, wait staff, great quality menu items, intimate environment and still the same great piano player!!
Be the first to ReplyThere is a bit of magic to this place.
There are so many beautiful and ornate dining areas, and the whole restaurant exudes a timeless, enchanting grace. The food is mediocre and overpriced, but somehow that almost feels secondary. My Cioppino was not flavorful and the seafood in it was very bland. Sadly, not a $65.00 bowl of food. However, the waitstaff is attentive, efficient, and friendly. I would recommend going at least once to experience the ambiance!

My family took me to The Sardine Factory last week for my 70th birthday! The experience was awesome, just as I remembered it several years ago!I worked at The Sardine Factory in the early 1980's and I loved it. The food is out of this world and the service is first class. The staff was more than accommodating and very attentive.I recommend The Sardine Factory for a casual dinner, or for an evening of Celebration!

Be the first to ReplyHad a great meal and a great time here.
I'm normally vegetarian but decided to go for it since I was on vacation and get the sardines. They did not disappoint and the greens they were served on top of were simply amazing as well, especially the fennel. Had it with cheese bread which was so good too and it was a perfect sized meal. The ambience of this place is wonderful too, so many different rooms and a couple private ones. I sat in the lounge where the full menu was served as well and there was a piano player as well. I'll be back next time I'm in Monterey.

The Seafood was Amazing and so fresh. The petite Maine lobster tail, wild Pacific prawns, seasonal pacific oysters, clams, sardines & shrimp meat; and assortment of dipping sauces are so fesh tastey. We also had the most delicious and mouth-watering boneless ribeye steak. Everything is to die for.

We sat in the conservatory around 5Pm and the setting is magical as the sun begins to set. Staff is amazing and they all together seamlessly. The abalone appetizer is worth trying even at $39 since there are not many places where you can get fresh abalone. We also got the mushrooms, bisque, chowder, sandabs, prawns and were all very good. The bisque did have a distinct alcohol(?) after taste so i did not finish it. The bread is hot and fresh. There were a bunch of reasonably priced wine by the glass in addition to the extensive wine list by the bottle. Overall a place we like to visit whenever we are in the area.
Be the first to ReplyWay too overprice .
Decent atmosphere & decoration with calming music. It is a formal dining place with traditional decorations.

Be the first to ReplyThe Sardine Factory is a favorite Monterey restaurant for
The Sardine Factory is a favorite Monterey restaurant for us. There are many excellent Monterey restaurants but few excel in all areas. Sardine Factory is a Monterey staple. The decor reminds me of a classic steak, or seafood, house. Many rooms are classic elegant containing nice pictures, plush seating, table cloths, candles, wood paneling with carpeting and lighting to set the stage. This elegance is great for anybody that wants to celebrate a special event or dine as the rich did in the past.We like the conservatory that is all glass nestled amongst the trees and statues. During the early evening it is more open and airy but all restaurant seating is designed to please unless you prefer fast food at one of the burger or restaurant chains.Monterey is known for local fish. Sand dabs, sardines and abalone are common. Sand dabs are small fish that are hard to find outside Monterey. Many people think sardines come out of a can full of salt. Abalone is a muscle like clams or mussels but very large. It takes great care to make Abalone tender without being overly chewy and requiring a sharp knife to cut it. I never liked sardines because all I knew was the canned junk. It was hard to get past that taste. The Sardine Factory does an excellent job with sardines. We had their sardines at a previous visit and were pleasantly surprised.Tonight we had abalone that was excellently prepared. The muscle was breaded and fried to perfection. Prior to that was the Oysters Rockefeller and burrata with tomatoes. The burrata had two large pieces of burrata. The chef surprised us with the decadent chocolate dessert for our anniversary. We are a fan and recommend you give Sardine Factory a try. Note -- they have free parking next to the restaurant space permitting.
