So this review is more about afternoon tea than anything
So this review is more about afternoon tea than anything else. Hotel lobby and Rivoli Bar are wonderful. The high tea ambiance is very British and I love it. But for all coat tales and British tea, the service is not what I expected. Waiters are not in top of it and they should be for the money. In contrast, the Wolseley is better and Gleneagles miles ahead. When I think of high tea and Britain, I think of the Ritz, but remarkably it fell far short of the mark..

We had tea reservations and we didn't feel welcomed by the staff there at the entrance. Upon arriving to our afternoon tea reservation, the experience was completely different. The staff here was beyond attentive and welcoming. Highly recommend for others to try the afternoon tea. The pastries were great and the teas were delicious.

Ridiculous. Never will return.

The walls and the public areas of the Ritz, including the room where it offers High Tea, are hung with oil paintings, and the antique tables are decorated with vases, and ceramics as if it were an art gallery. The entire High Tea experience is itself a series of signature and iconic dishes, such as Finger Sandwiches, Scones, Devonshire Clotted Cream, Lemon Curd, and dainty Individual Pastries. Your High Tea here is accompanied by a live pianist. High Tea here offers the chance to purchase three top brands of fine Champagne by the glass at highly inflated prices. The drinking-age in Great Britain is under 21 (I believe it is 18). There is no posted limit on how many glasses of Champagne one may order, so unless a guest clearly has had too much to drink, if that guest is willing to pay the premium price, that guest is welcome to buy themself a serious 'High Tea' BUZZ. Reservations for High Tea at The Ritz must be made months in advance.

The doorman was so shockingly disparaging and disgusting. He was very rude to me and my family saying that they only let certain types of people in. No one should support this institution.

Anthony and I came here for evening tea on the last night of our honeymoon and it was honestly the best way to end such a beautiful and meaningful trip. Service was phenomenal, as was the tea and the hors d'oeuvres. We both tried soooo many teas! And we had champagne as well. The teas were the best teas we had during our entire trip. This is such an elegant and sophisticated tea and perfect for celebrations. We both can't wait to come back some day!

I loved the place, the music, and overall experience. Highly reccomended

For the price, I was disappointed. The room, bathroom, atmosphere felt extremely dated. The bathroom was pumping in this fake clean smell. The service was okay, but not Ritz levels. Ordered a special cake for the occasion which was uneitable! Horrible tasting. Overall, just not the experience I was expecting or looking forward to. Would skip this and the price tag.

As expected this is a MUST if visiting London! We had the best butler EVER! The ambiance is breathtaking and so ornate. The piano player made it even more magical. the finger sandwiches are ok. I'm just not a fan of eggs, tuna or smoked salmon but my friend loved all of them. The pastries however; were sooo good! I got the chocolate mint tea and my friend got the mint tea. Both were so good. Then the scones came out they were so good and almost like biscuits not like the hard scones you find in the states. PLEASE read the dress code before coming. They WILL turn you away if you are not dressed properly. It was embarrassing how many Americans were not dressed appropriately

My husband and I were completely discriminated against due to not having a British residence. We came here for a one night staycation while visiting our family in the UK. We were both born in the UK, but have lived in the USA for 20 + years. Despite booking our room with the Amex fine hotels, we were told that we would need to provide a physical copy of our passports. We both explained that our passports were with luggage, kids and family over an hour away on their other side of London. We both had multiple federally issued US ID's and a picture of our passports. What should have been a beautiful, memorable stay at such an iconic hotel became an embarrassing nightmare. Truly the worst customer service we have ever encountered. We were never informed that physical passports would be required. The manager Rita really did her absolute best, but her hands were tied due to the ridiculous policy of the hotel. The head of security came over and was so aggressive, rude and antagonistic my husband had to ask him to back off. Completely unacceptable for such a expensive hotel. I usually only write good reviews, but we were so shocked at the treatment we received I felt the need to share. Luckily, we got a beautiful room at Claridge's so our staycation was saved. Claridge's has the most incredible service, amazing staff, food and drinks. Claridge's is everything the Ritz is not and were more than happy to accommodate us - we will definitely be back. I would never step foot in the Ritz again.

I came here in 2019 for tea (champagne too) because I heard the Queen likes this place. I see why its super fancy you feel special the staff is friendly. Just do not be a fool and forget your coat. dress nice do your hair and do not stare at other patrons. The ambiance is like a really good day dream. I had the green tea which was phenomenal, the tea cakes and finger foods were amazing. NOTE: Suit wearers... Do not forget your coat or you'll get the rentals.

Be the first to ReplyI think overall it's a cool hotel, very classy and stylish.
But let me tell you about negatives, that's why it's 4 stars not 5;) no ramp for strollers. Understand it's an older building but come on. We had such a hard time every time we wanted to go out and also what about handicaps? Second thing no electric plug in bathroom. Guess 130 years ago nobody was using a hairdryer. Lol. Overall it's nice and classy and high tea is cool. Also people watching is great. People look really cool there. I also tried to look cool:)
Be the first to ReplyI have stayed and visited many Ritz Carlton hotels.
This one was cold and servers were even colder and not welcoming at all. I was told they won't serve me coffee in the lobby because my shoes were not appropriate. It was a rainy day and I had my Chanel boots on.Chanel get with the program, your boots are not worthy of ritz Carlton but these plastic sandals are!!!!I lefthowever, later on the manger of the restaurant told my friend that they have no such a policy!!! So who is telling the truth!
