The Palm Court New York Reviews from The Last Year
The overall experience is very average.
Hmm... I should say it's very bad. The restaurant is dark, not very suitable for taking pictures, and the food is not delicious... The most basic one for the four of us is $95/person. If you only want to order three or two portions, the remaining people need to pay $30 each, which is equivalent to the cost of tea. The waiter seemed to be an Indian or Pakistani uncle, and there was an embarrassing moment in the middle. We told him that we need to add some hot water to the teapot; he then asked me what kind of tea was in it. While I was answering him, the uncle took off his mask and put his nose directly to the spout of the teapot with the lid off to smell it! ! ! What kind of disgusting operation is this?

The food and service is good but be warned I read on website and called hotel and was told the palm court breakfast is open from 6-10 am I got there at 9:30 and was told breakfast for guests at hotel open till 10 non guests till 9 I was mad they offered to eat in champagne bar but I said no I ate afternoon tea which cost me $465 for 3
While I have been fortunate to savor delightful high tea
While I have been fortunate to savor delightful high tea experiences at various places around the world, Palm Court left me longing for the excellence and sophistication that define the true essence of the high tea tradition. While priced comparable to other esteemed high tea places, it lacks the quality and quantity in food, creativity in the menu, and the service fell far short of expectations.
Anniversary meal
We went for our anniversary meal and it was truly a lovely evening. The staff were attentive, polite and even complimented my wife on her dress. The ambience was great and the service brilliant. The only negative was that I couldnโt get a black coffee unless I was staying at the hotel, not sure why but this did not ruin our evening. Would definitely go back
Unique and posh experience.
Afternoon tea here was a great experience. Pricey, but the luxury fits the price tag. It felt like I was in England at a posh tea club. I don't think there is anywhere I will experience this in the US. He food and service were outstanding and our servers, especially Khalid, were gracious, kind, patient, and thoughtful. I would recommend this experience to anyone for a great Sunday afternoon event. Great for birthdays, couples date, or girls day out tbh. I went with my girlfriend and we loved it.

I came here for a birthday high tea on a Saturday, and the decor is gorgeous, definitely an upscale place. However, the price is quite steep and the service and food don't match it. I will say, I have a great experience with our server, but even with a reservation, we had to wait in a long line to get seated. And when I got up to go to the restroom to wash my hands, 1) it was super far away from the dining room on the 2nd floor, and 2) there was a staff member in the women's restroom (a man) who seemed to be refilling the toilet paper who was super rude. I pushed the door open to try and go into the restroom, and the man yelled "no, you can't come in here!" I told him I just needed to wash my hands, and he just yelled "no!" and slammed the door closed and locked the restroom. For a hotel and restaurant of this caliber, you would expect much more polite staff. The man was extremely rude and mean, and when he eventually came out, there wasn't even hand soap in the dispenser. Seriously?? If you're going to rudely shut the door on a guest while maintaining the restroom, at least make sure everything is in place?? Overall, the high tea experience is very fancy if that's what you are looking for, and the sandwiches and pastries are delicious. They did give me and my friend small chocolate cakes with candles to celebrate our birthdays, and our server was really sweet. But the staff members in other parts of the hotel definitely need some training on how to treat their guests. The guy in the bathroom definitely soured the experience. He didn't even apologize and was rude for no reason.
Amazing service from Syed
We went to the Palm Court for Afternoon tea just yesterday for our Wedding Anniversary the whole experience was amazing we were treated like royalty. Our server Syed could not do enough for us and made our day, such a lovely man.We also had drinks in the champagne bar next door and the staff in there also were first class.
Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing afternoon
Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing afternoon tea experiences I have ever had. The Plaza is GORGEOUS and part of going to tea here is just the experience of being in the Plaza. But with that said, it's an expensive afternoon tea at about $150 a person after tax and tip (which is included) so you expect the food to be good. But it was wildly disappointing. With the basic tea you get two scones - a savory scone which is actually very good and a double chocolate scone which is very dry. You get 5 tea sandwiches, only one of which we enjoyed. The classic cucumber sandwich is good, but the egg sandwich is more of a firm egg custard with strawberry jam that is an unpleasant texture with little taste. The Moroccan lamb sandwich has good flavor but the texture was extremely off-putting and paste like, the pastrami salmon was fishy, and the grape and cheese was fine but the cheese is strong (it is a blue cheese which can be polarizing but it's fine). The dessert selection includes a macaron which is good, a cheesecake that has a nice flavor but a soggy crust, a hazelnut rocher with improperly set mousse, an ube tart with another soggy crust and caramel tart which was fine. After a disappointing meal, we were also rushed out of there! We had a 4PM tea reservation, which is the last slot of the day. They begin happy hour around 5 in the Palm Court so the wait staff rushed us out (to go containers on the table while we were still eating, check before we asked for it, table cleared before we signed the check, etc.). It would be one thing if we were just sitting around but we had to wait a long time for the food to even come out so we had very little time to have the tea experience - turns out it was a good thing we didn't like the food because we wouldn't have had time to eat it all anyway! All in all - absolutely skip afternoon tea here. Save your dollars and go to the Crosby for half the price.
Great Service and Amazing Food & Tea
Fariz, our waiter, was fabulous. He made each of us feel special. He serves with an old-world elegance and keeps refills and extras coming! The tea sandwiches, scones and desserts were amazing. You would neced imagine that such light food would fill you up like that! I took my niece and nephew there to celebrate her promotion at work and it was the perfect spot for the occasion!
Outstanding service from Khalid at The Palm Court
Beautiful establishment! We had excellent service from our secondary waiter Khalid. (Not sure if the spelling is correct. He was so attentive and kind. OUTSTANDING service from him
Christmas afternoon tea
We went here when we were holidaying in New York as a birthday celebration. The food was absolutely delicious and as a surprise we were given a cake for my birthday. As the chef was walking through the restaurant I complimented her on the food as the standard was so high. As we were leaving she brought us some Plaza chocolates which was unexpected and delicious at the same time. This is a really special location for afternoon tea so we overlooked the extreme cost of the afternoon. I found it quite disrespectful to add 18% to our bill as our tip. The service was extremely poor and the only time that we saw our server was when we first sat down at our table. Someone at a neighbouring table was complaining quite loudly about the champagne and all of the staff seemed to be bending over backwards to make him happy which is possibly why we were neglected. The place was full so I guess they don't have to offer exceptional service as they know they will still be full every day.
It's The Plaza.
It's The Palm Court. It's all about ambiance, the history, and the sweets. I assume reservations are a must. Arriving, we were immediately greeted by plenty of staff who were happy to hear it was my birthday and usher us over to our people and place watching table for the next hour and a half or so. The seating is comfortable and the view is historic, but I surprised that no one asked to check our coats and by our table's proximity to a server staging area. Looking at the China, I couldn't help but think the gold trim wearing off at the edges was as fitting a metaphor for the deluge of American capitalism as you'll find anywhere. The whole space is beautiful and classic, but in many ways, the best way to spend your time is people watching. As far as I can tell, the three most common patrons are families with young daughters who recently read Eloise, people wearing velvet, and probably oligarchs each of whom add their own character to the proceedings. The food was mostly very tasty. The scones are best enjoyed first and warm, then finger sandwiches that are toasted that perfect amount that gives a little crisp without browning, the caviar macaroon is best avoided entirely as it's an abomination of the highest order although warranted a photo, then the sweets, which are ample, varied, and all delicious. The tea itself was served hot in a big pot and very delicious. As we were wrapping up, they brought over a very tasty slice of chocolate cake with a candle and some happy birthday chocolates, a great ending note. All in all, tea at The Palm Court was a nice once in a lifetime treat although I have to dock a star for the little things at the price point.
Some of the most rude service I've experienced in NYC.
Very surprising for a tea service that cost 150+ per perso. Would not recommend. We arrived early and checked in with the hostess, and she took our name and said to return in 20 mins for seating. When we came back in 20 mins, a long line had formed but I figured we had already checked in and could skip it. Nope, the hostess told us to wait in the line for another 20 mins. So bizarre - why wouldn't she tell us to get in line in the first place? Why did we need to check in with her twice? Then later I asked a server to take a photo of our table because we were celebrating a birthday. She said "No I'm not allowed" and walked away. Truly bizarre.
Great experience!
This was our first time having afternoon tea at The Plaza. They gave us a warm welcome when we arrived and were seated right way. Fariz Tello was our server and he was great! He was attentive, professional and friendly. The food and tea were delicious.
Khalid Rocks!
We received the finest service in every way from Khalid. He was awesome.. told us stories, the history of the plaza, and held a professional standard photo shoot for our visit! This man needs to be promoted to waiter ASAP!
Had afternoon tea.
Nice location and delish pastries. Attention and service at the table were good; however, I felt there is room for improvement - reason why I gave it 4-stars! was superb and staff truly made my stay feel special.
The palm court is what it is.
It's a fun experience for a tourist. It's loud, crowded, and touristy. The high tea choices are pretty limited, but still tasty and you get a lot of food. If you are looking for a tourist experience, go here. If you are looking for a romantic, swanky high tea, go else here
Complete Rip Off Tourist Trap
I am a New Yorker as well as my children. Iโve always enjoyed every few years taking my grandchildren for tea at the Palm Court. This year my daughter, her two children, ages 6 and 4, another grandson, aged 10 and I went for tea. There was an attraction for Eloise with the 6 year old. There were two adults and 3 children. The total of our bill was $842 which I think is outrageous. Although the Palm Court is still lovely, the food was not great. The kids had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, not that there is anything wrong with that, but for $842? Itโs not worth the money. My daughter and I were disappointed and I didnโt like being ripped off. An 18% tip was included. By the way, my daughter and I didnโt have any champagne or any other alcohol.
Best Brunch
This was such an amazing experience! The service was top notch, we had Khalid as our server and he made sure our experience was superb. His thoughtfulness and attention to detail made this experience the best meal we had while in New York.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been โmatchedโ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
