The Lark Santa Barbara Reviews from The Last Year
Good food and good service.
We sat in the shaded outdoor area . One of the better restaurants in Funk Zone.

Everything from the food, the service, and the ambiance was immaculate. Definitely worth the drive even if you're coming from out of town! The cornbread and the pork ribs blew my mind!

The Lark has a charming outdoor eating area that welcomes diners with vertical greenery and outdoor heaters allowing ambiance and comfort to be in tact even on chilly evenings. The menu offers a variety of flavor combinations and after tasting many appetizers and main dishes, all are filled with unique ingredients and masterful flavor profiles. The Brussels sprouts were incredibly flavorful with chopped dates providing a sweet balance to the savory sauté or roasting oils and spices. The fried chicken was a huge winner as the crispy breading was perfection. The service was fantastic and they helped us decide the perfect amount of food to order and their suggestions were very helpful!

The Lark in Santa Barbara is hands down the best place to eat in town! Every time we go, the atmosphere just blows us away--so inviting and perfect for any special occasion or a romantic date night. Although it's not the cheapest option in town, every dish is worth it, making it my go-to spot for a fun night in SB. The service here is always top-notch; you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. And the food? Absolutely impeccable. It doesn't matter what you pick from the menu, it's going to be delicious. My personal favorites are the brown butter cornbread and the hope ranch mussels--they're out of this world! Also, if you're here in the right season and looking for a cocktail, the Summerland is incredible. If you like Whiskey, it's the perfect drink to start off a memorable evening. I can't recommend The Lark enough. If you find yourself in Santa Barbara, make sure you give it a try--you won't regret it!

Came for brunch in the hipster "funk zone" area, at the fairly well-known restaurant, The Lark, for my first time. Service was friendly and great, although our food came out a bit slower than expected. Still, the hostess, waitress and bussers were all informative, fun and kind. The food was fantastic! My spouse loved the shakshuka, as it was powerfully flavorful with cast iron to have that roasted touch. We could've done without the green olives in it, but more for personal taste. My chicken and waffles were also excellent. The waffles were surprisingly light and crispy, with some heavy honey butter to kick you in the mouth. Fried chicken was good. We enjoyed our mimosa flight- particularly with the sparkling wine/champagne served in a separate chilled container to dole out for the flavors (pomegranate, grapefruit, orange and cranberry, iirc). All the other sides like the oyster and hangover fries were well-suited to curb any remaining appetites. Love the decor too, particularly in the booths. Very charming, and classy, while still chill. Easy to find this restaurant nestled with other shops, pastries and coffee. Definitely would come again!

Welcome to the most below average dining experience of your life... Showed up and seemed like no one was prepared to have us there. Staff was nice. Seemed like the hostess was doing more than she is paid for and entertained us while our waitress lagged. Super awkward experience all around server was okay. After reading all this and you still decide on coming here for dinner, get the brussel sprouts. They were the only thing that impressed us for our grand total of $240 (for 2 of us) So disappointing
We sat outside.
It is a great patio area and sheltered from any wind. The food was exceptional. It was the best meal we had in Santa Barbara. Our group started with several small plates, including beets, crudo and Brussels sprout's. For the main course we tried the fried chicken, pork ribs and fish. The fried chicken was fantastic. Everyone loved everything we ordered. The service was top notch as well. Highly recommend The Lark for a nice evening at an upscale but casual restaurant that epitomizes Santa Barbara.

The lark's ambiance was very cozy and vibey but that might have been my favorite thing about the experience. We got the beet salad, the catch of the day, and the brown butter corn bread. The cornbread was my favorite of the three but even that didn't blow me away. Service was fine, but we probably won't return just because there wasn't any standout dish for us.
This is such a great place in Santa Barbara.
We first visited a few years ago and loved the food, but didn't have outstanding service or a great table location. It still didn't ruin our experience. During this visit, we had a different yet equally bad seating location, but the service was perfect, and the food was delicious! We tried the cornbread (DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!), the Brussels Sprouts (yum!), the oysters (Skip this one, it was the only let-down of the night), the ribs (Great), and the Mussels (Ridiculously tasty!). We finished with a delicious matcha ice cream with macadamia nuts and coconut. Manager, Patricia, was so welcoming and made sure that we had a great experience, and we sincerely appreciated it. 100% recommended restaurant in Santa Barbara.

My wife and I made a reservation here to try out their coastal and Texas-inspired dining experience with shareable plates. The food comes out as it is prepped and the expectations were set high but fell a little bit flat towards the end. Time and Tide - A herby vodka cocktail with mellow citrus to start and a slight bitterness finish. Easy to sip on throughout the meal with not too strong flavors Crispy Brussel Sprouts - Incredibly savory first bite with umami and acid on the first bite! Brussels sprouts are cooked crispy in the outside yet tender on the inside. Tastes like soy sauce, lime, and a little bit of spicy kick. Handcut Pappardelle Pasta - A light carbonara sauce on firm pasta. Seasoned well and the citrus breadcrumbs add a nice depth of tang and crunch to each bite. 6 Hour Smoked Duroc Pork Spare Ribs - Taste and texture really varies on this one. I had an end piece that was tough and dry, but I also had a rib that was tender and fatty. Decent smokiness on the first bite with a mild kick at the end. Coleslaw was creamy and compliments the dish but nothing out of the ordinary. Service and advice on navigating the menu was easy thanks to our server Corina. I could've ordered the not as popular dishes but I wanted to try something different than the seafood items. Maybe I'll come back for those next time.
Highly recommended
Great food in a very nice atmosphere. Great service, also suitable for families. We were recommended to order several dishes to share and we went a bit overboard. Still ate everything because it was so good! Only the chocolate dessert was pretty unimaginative.
You’re having a lark
Great ambience with low ceilings and the vibe of a Swiss mountain lodge but where did the food go? I bet a deli in Downtown Mogadishu has a better selection and yet this place was packed. Obviously doesn’t hurt that it is in the tourist hotspot of The Funk Zone, but young Molly and I were so unimpressed that we ordered Brussels sprouts and a wedge salad and moved onto lusher pastures down the street. Hats off to the Italian maitre des who worked hard to get us seated, and maybe they can now set him a new task of fixing the menu.
Food tasty, but overall, will not go again.
The menu is super limited. The popcorn appetizer is excellent! We understand that the food is served "family style". We ordered corn bread, Brussel sprouts, and fried chicken to share. The brussels came out first (huge portion, way too much for 2 people), then the cornbread (perfect size for 2 to share), and 30 minutes later (no joke) the fried chicken came out. A surprise was that it was served with grits, which is new, and not advertised on the menu. All very good, but the timing was awkward, who wants to eat brussels and corn bread, then wait a half an hour for chicken? We were almost full by the time the chicken arrived. It really took away from our overall satisfaction of the meal. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, but the music is very irritating! boom beat dance music. Super pricey for the overall experience. We probably won't go again.
Let down for lunch
Lark was one of to go places when in Santa Barbara so when we heard it had now opened at lunchtimes, we gave it a much anticipated go! Yet our experience was that the lunch menu was extremely limited with limited to a good few egg dishes and a not so great fried chicken. Lunch was a total and utter let down.
Not worth the hype!!
We had heard good things about the Lark, but boy were we disappointed. Service was poor at best, bathrooms were dirty, out of order and not maintained and many areas of the restaurant need upkeep and regular maintenance. Maybe they've changed ownership or managers. THERE ARE BETTER CHOICES IN THE AREA! TOMAS, BOUCHON, LA QUITA are all similar priced and offer a much better experience.
Highly recommend
Loved everything we ordered at The Lark. Dishes are served family style so we shared quite a few options between four adults - everything was delicious. It was a perfect choice for dinner in Santa Barbara for our family (kids loved it too).
Good experience
PROS -good wine selection -delicious and creative food items -great service from Laurel (?) -good vibes -food reasonably priced except for oysters at $4 each and way too tiny -friendly front desk checkin CONS -very very hard to find parking -wines a bit high priced -bathrooms dirty
Nice casual spot
Loved this place! Fresh ingredients, inventive menu items, lovely location, and excellent service. Lots of shaded outdoor space, set off from main drag so limited noise. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts, but honestly everything was great—fried chicken, pasta, oysters, cocktails….
Amazing Hanger steak
The bartenders were extremely professional and knowledgeable! We love eating at the bar just to have the friendly interaction with the bartenders. The ambience was great! We ordered a few apps and the hanger steak to share and it was incredible! The popcorn the hand out is so addicting! Must go if you are in Santa Barbra!!
Rather disappointing. Does not live up to reputation
Rather disappointing evening meal. Service was slow to start. Menu limited and a sharing dish experience which is hard if someone in the group has allergens. Food was underwhelming. Would not recommend for a family.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
