The Herbfarm Woodinville Reviews from The Last Year
The Herbfarm is a fantastic restaurant and experience.
This is the best place to go for any special occasion, the food and service is spectacular. Then the interior is stunning and elegant, but you also feel very comfortable. Although Seattle is casual, you will in here better if you dress up a bit. If you do go, I recommend staying at the Willows Inn. It is a long meal and you want to drink all of the great paired beverages and nice to be able to have a small stroll to your room. I have been here a few times and it was fabulous each time. They continually rotate the menu to go with the seasons and availability of fresh food, but each visit was just perfect. I did a detailed review of food in past review, but it must have disappeared. I was just going to post a few photos and share some updates, but have waited too long and forgot details. I do know we both had the best time and strongly recommend people to visit here if they have never done it.
Underwhelming.
Kind of a big let down. The portion sizes were too small and the food just didn't hit the mark. Overall, the dishes were bland and unremarkable. 3 stars because the service was fantastic but, for $900, we expected to be wowed and leave satisfied. Canlis, Eden Hill or Cafe Juanita are far better and much less expensive.
I wanted to love this place.
I was so excited to get a reservation here and have the whole experience for my birthday. Unfortunately, it did not excite me the way I had anticipated. The service was amazing. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The wine pairings we had were awesome. I truly enjoyed the wine. The pinot blanc was new for me and I thought was wonderful. However, when I say I came for the food, I wish that were true. The food was meh...we left after the fifth course. The initial snack of salmon roe and crackers was too fishy for my liking. The first course of dungeness crab bao and soup was kind of boring. I don't particularly think this crab has much flavor anyways, but the bao filled with crab tasted like bread. The soup's texture was strange with the addition of the quinoa to give it some heft, but I thought the flavor was good-not great. Second course was the bread and it was probably the best thing I ate all evening. Third course was sturgeon with a horseradish cream. I liked the cream, but I was not a fan of the sturgeon's rather tough, dry texture. Fourth course was a foie gras and truffle dish that had a slimy texture offset with some foam. It tasted rich as expected for foie gras and truffles, but I couldn't get over the mouth feel of the entire dish. The fifth and final course we stayed for was a purely vegetable dish that didn't scream anything amazing. It was frankly pretty lackluster. My husband looked so uncomfortable. A man with a zest for good food couldn't get out of there fast enough. I wanted to give the next course a chance, but when I saw the presentation at the table over, it was time to go. I truly appreciate the talents of those working at the HerbFarm. It was apparent their knowledge and appreciation for food and wine was top notch, but the food just didn't hit the right notes for me. I don't know if I am going to have to "eat" the price of this dinner after skipping out early, but it was really a disappointment for me. My husband and I still had an amazing birthday celebration despite the culinary letdown, but The HerbFarm didn't live up to the hype for us.
Nothing Beats The Herbfarm.
This is the ABSOLUTE best dining experience ever. The food is truly farm to table with service that is unparalleled. The wine matching is extraordinary. I’ve been a couple of times and can’t wait to return.
First time having here dinner for my partner's birthday.
Unforgettable---and I don't say that lightly. Yes it's expensive and I was worried it would be more hype than substance but we were both bowled over by the entire experience. Astounding nine courses over four and a half hours with smart wine paring. Warm, cozy and unpretentious. Perfect service. Some of the best food we've ever had. The entire night exceeded our expectations. Kudos to the Herbfarm and their remarkable team.
We had an absolutely outstanding experience.
It rivaled out night out at Alinea in Chicago. The food with the wine pairings was incredible and the service sublime.
This place is absolutely Magical.
Spend the money, get the wine pairing. Talk to everyone, the service is impressive and perfect! The Food is a journey to another land. Let them feed you. Don't fight it. Just do it. It's beautiful inside and this place transports you to another world. So like I said, just do it. Don't bring picky people who will Complain and are picky eaters. Leave them at home. You will thank me later!

Came for a Saturday night dinner in the winter and it's almost like a show. You need a reservation to dine here so go to the website and make the reservation. You have an option of sitting at a communal table where you meet other people or a private table. Both are great option, it just depends on what you are in the mood for. The chef and sommelier start the evening off by going over the menu and the wine pairings and there was a guitarist playing in the dining room. The ambiance is awesome and is the service. The menu changes seasonally. Our meal was a winter menu and the food was great. The lamb and sturgeon were my two favorites with the bao and broth a close third. The palate cleanser and desserts were all very good. Overall it was an enjoyable meal in a pleasant setting and worth the splurge.

If the Herbfarm was a person taking me out on a date I would have left the date thinking "omg you are one of a kind and I hope you ask me out again!!! " I've lived here long enough to know the lore of the Herbfarm. I'm not shy about shelling out for a special occasion meal but for some reason kept hesitating at the Herbfarm. I wish I'd been here years ago!!! The whole experience from start to finish was perfection. You are going to receive a level of dining that you can't experience at many other restaurants in western Washington (maybe 1-2 others??). The Herbfarm was heads and tails above anything else ever had in the area. The attention to detail and personalization was outstanding. I really felt like I was on a date and the whole staff was woo-ing me Especially after watching The Bear, I have a whole new level of appreciation for chefs. Not the obsessive fan girl/celebrity chef experience but a true admiration for their dedication to the craft. You see that through and through here. I won't play by play the whole meal but I'll say it was so incredibly enjoyable that we can't wait to do it again. A must. Absolute must.

This is my fourth time over the years eating here, the first three were wonderful but I was very disappointed this time. Because the menu stays fairly similar through the week (I'd checked the posted menus in the days before we went) I expected them to have things down seamlessly. Wine servings seemed smaller. Three times my dates and I were slightly pleasantly tipsy by the time the madeira was served at the end (which it no longer is). The hotel was full so we ubered up there with the expectation that we would not want to drive, but you can rest assured that driving ourselves home would have been fine. On my other visits I liked every single item. Two of the dishes were under-seasoned and bland, and one was over-seasoned to the point of being unpleasant. The first dish was delicious and interesting, the bread was amazing. My biggest complaint was the black cod, which is my favorite fish in the world. The previous dish, an onion potato salad had been wood roasted and it had a delicious rich smoky oiliness, so I was excited that the black cod was also wood roasted in the same oven but there was no flavor of smoke at all, no hint of salt, it was just a bland white fish with no flavor or texture, and the sauce wasn't plentiful or flavorful enough to mask that. It's the only time in my life I haven't had a great experience with this fish at a restaurant or when cooking it at home. The roast lamb was really nice, but the wild rice side was served arancini style, and it was greasy, and didn't make any sense texture wise to serve with the dish, it didn't add anything to it. Desert included huckleberry pie with candy cap mushrooms to sweeten it. Those mushrooms were so overpowering with maple flavor that it brought back my childhood memory of drinking ipecac syrup - I couldn't taste huckleberries at all. I tried a couple of bites both my date and I found it disgusting, which was a really bad way to end the meal. I find it hard to believe that the dishes are being tasted and the chef and crew expected some of the items to turn out like they did. Service wise it had a few downsides - a server said they would bring a second glass of a wine that was really liked and they never came back. They have the teas and coffee, and I love the dandelion tea more than anything, but they poured me a small cup and didn't leave us the presses that still had quite a bit of tea in them (and I can't seem to buy it from them online anymore). After dinner we had gotten our coats, gone to the restroom, and were walking out the door when they came to find us to give us a parting gift of apple butter. That was just really odd as they knew people were leaving and presumably could have caught people as they exited the dining room. For the price I am going to be nit-picky, and I'm really disappointed since this was my one big splurge of the year, and didn't expect such a big let down after my other experiences there..
Never heard from the owners or management.
I figure, they got my money, and thus all is settled. Again, I think that the Herb Farm should be avoided.
More than a meal
I would say that the experience that I had at this restaurant was one of the best things I have done. The attention to details was just fabulous the food was exceptional and the service was great. I went by myself and sat at the farm table where I not only had great food but also enjoyed meeting wonderful people. It was such an amazing time and I will be going again. It was more than just a meal it was an experience. Before the meal you get the option to walk in the garden that is filled with edible flowers and the herbs that you will be having in the 9 course meal which you can taste before the meal starts.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
