Had a group dinner for 24 people and service and food were fabulous. The owner made sure we were taken care of, and the servers were professional and friendly. We had a choice of three different entrees (chicken, hake, or vegetarian) and desserts- all were well prepared and delicious. The decor is remarkable and some rooms were great for a romantic dinner. Great venue and people. I highly recommend.

If you don't give this place five stars we did not eat at the same place. Incredible meal all around - I got the scallop appetizer, a glass of wine, the rolls with butter, the cod and panna cotta for dessert. Everything was absolutely perfect! But that wasn't the best part of the experience... it was the SERVICE! Paul was incredible from the moment I emailed asking for a reservation. I dined alone and he was so hospitable and friendly I felt like I was eating at a friends house, the ambiance was incredible and I just was so so happy when I left here. I will be back and absolutely recommend!

Fois gras 'bun' is a must try. Favorite spot in Edinburgh so far!

I was referred to eat here by a client who's husband is Scottish, we only had one full day and two nights so our time was valuable. And we were SO happy we were lead in the grain stores direction and impressed with this restaurant! The food was incredible, the ambiance is so classic warm and homey, and the staff was helpful, kind and able to give honest opinions about their favorite dishes. And it's right in the middle of beautiful old Edinburgh! If I ever make it back again, the grain store will be one of my first stops. Thanks again for making our trip memorable!

Adorable restaurant! I just think the interior is beautiful and have printed photos of their windows, because I'm in love! But because this is a restaurant, I will also comment on the food which is also stellar. My husband and I just came for a midday snack of foie grad with the best! Delicious and decadent! Cute and delicious! Highly recommend

Best meal I've had in quite some time and fabulous service on top of it. Beautiful, quiet, and cozy setting and well worth the price. Favorite spot in Edinburgh.
Be the first to ReplyI'm confused why this place is so popular.
It has a great Yelp average, and was recommended by my host here. The location is on a touristy street in Old Town, and the interior is well-appointed and intimate. The service is prompt, professional, and helpful. The wine was very good. So what's the problem? The food. It's not very good. The lobster was tough and chewy - I'm not even sure how they did it. My entree was ok, although the portion seemed identical to the size of the appetizer. They charge you an extra £1 if you want bread, so I figured it must be something special; nope, it's 3 small slices of bland bread with over-baked crust. The prices are too high to justify this low-quality cooking. I'm bumping it up to 3 stars because everything else was good, but in general, is skip this place and try Steak & Mussels down the street.

The food was HORRIBLE!! This restaurant was recommended by Rick Steves. He must have been drunk when he ate there. It was the worst meal we have ever had in Europe. The prices are ridiculous. £1 for 2 tiny pieces of bread, gnocchi £18 which included 4 tiny pieces of gnocchi--any nothing else. I made the mistake of having pigeon-- it was served almost raw and was awful. Don't waste your time and my money.

Good trad food with a great atmosphere. Close to the castle. Old building that was very cool to be inside. The staff was efficient but not especially friendly.
