The Feathered Nest Country Inn Nether Westcote Reviews from The Last Year
Sadly didn’t live up to my first visit! Disappointing
Had a wonderful dinner here end of March on a quiet Thursday evening. The meal and service was exceptional and was just sorry that I hadn’t tried it sooner. Decided to take my parents there a couple of weeks later for my mother’s birthday. Was Friday and notably busier than my previous visit. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the first time. I had the same starter ( duck salad) it was completely different than before sadly. My mother had it on my recommendation and hers was sadly drowning in the sauce. My mother and I chose the Picanha steak for main and it was basically inedible. Tough, couldn’t chew it and generally bad cut of meat. Dad had the duck and said it was extremely fatty. Complained to waiter and it went unacknowledged apart from we got offered was a glass of dessert wine. At £34 for a main which we both hardly touched, I thought this was a poor effort. This is not a cheap place to eat but sadly it did not impress at all second time, even the service was not as good. Sadly I have been put off from trying it again.
Expensive and not worth it
There were four of us we were eventually shown to our table, but were not shown where to hang our coats it took them 20 minutes to give us a menu and offer a drink ! Not even a glass of water! The restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse. The meal when it came was mediocre. Recommendation: there are much better places around.
Fantastic experience but be prepared to pay for the pleasure!
The location and accommodation were perfect, a real get away from civilisation. We planned on eating from the 6 course taster menu as it was my wife's Birthday however neither of us were blown away by more than three of the six courses so opted instead for the ala carte menu. Our starters were delicious, duck salad with pomegranate, blood orange and feta along with a portion of stick pork belly bites. For main course I opted for saddle of venison and my wife opted for a steak. Both dishes were delicious, the service brilliant and the atmosphere perfect. I never mind paying for great food and a good experience but I did think this was overly expensive for what was served. Two tiny slices of venison beautifully presented did not warrant the price I'm afraid, otherwise no criticism and we would return again if visiting the area. Not saying anything was bad at all but I have had better for less in other highly rated establishments.
Disappointing and very average service.
Being honest, I’ve come away feeling disappointed with the overall experience, which is really sad considering it was for such a special occasion (my husband’s 50th). The message hadn’t got through to the member of staff who greeted us on arrival that our friends being there was a surprise. Despite the weeks of planning, the surprise was spoilt on when he confirmed in front of my husband that ‘your friends are here already’. I let it go because I didn’t want to make a fuss, but felt really let down with the lack of care, attention to detail and communication between staff. We went on to enjoy drinks in the bar and then the six course taster menu. The food was absolutely delicious and can’t be faulted. However, the service, and general attentiveness was very average. This wasn’t what we expected, as I’d hoped to make my husband feel very special. The waiting staff weren’t overly friendly or attentive, and at the end of the night made it very clear that they wanted us to finish our drinks and leave, by turning the music off, cleaning up around us and generally making us feel somewhat of an inconvenience. Considering we were overnight guests, and it was before midnight, it was again, disappointing. Particularly when the overnight stay, dinner and drinks came with a very sizeable price tag, and service charge included. The check out was also disappointing. We were presented with one bill for the two rooms, including the lunch that our friends had charged to their room before we arrived. I’d also bought a special bottle of wine for us all on arrival, which I didn’t want our friends to pay for. We therefore had to spend time separating out the different elements of the bill, which again didn’t really make for a happy end to our stay. A real shame, and not what we expected.
I felt let down it was a special lunch for my wife
Disappointed with the service and quality of treatment. This is a beautiful place and the food sings, however it was Saturday before Easter and knowing that tomorrow will be a lot busier I just hope they step up. I liked relaxed, we did get a nice smile on entering and the Asian gentleman was charming but there was no attention at all, we sat with our main plates in front of us for ages, the table was not tidied between courses and we wouldn’t have been offered another drink if we didn’t specifically ask when our meal came. I’m not a picky customer it was really basic stuff. No dessert or coffee offered so I had to go to the bar to pay our bill whilst our dirty plates sat in front of us. I paid the tip because I feel bad on the kitchen staff and anyone working hard. I know the out of town brigade will praise your lovely location, but you are going to need more than that like you’ve had before. Come on guys 👍
Lovely Cotswolds Stay
We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Feathered Nest as part of a break to explore this bit of the Cotswolds. We'd absolutely recommend it - a lovely setting and our room was extremely comfortable. We dined there on the Saturday evening and had a really superb tasting menu. Breakfast each morning was also delicious and extremely high quality. Thank you to Susan and all the team who were really friendly and welcoming!
Comfortable, Cozy and an Amazing Experience.
We came here for our anniversary and had an amazing stay. The staff was extremely friendly, and the room was comfortable and cozy. Downstairs, the food was amazing and the bar had an excellent selection of wine and spirits. The tasting menu and paring list we had was particularly good! It was the perfect spot for a quiet getaway for a few days. It is also centrally located in the Cotswolds, and definitely worth returning each night.
Needed to go to McDonalds in Witney afterwards
Really curious. Service a bit Shakey in that they don’t like two way conversation. Food was mixed. Not all the menu was available. Can pay £32 for a Sunday Roast, or £22 for a small piece of pasta which is more of a starter than a main. They rip off vegetarians. Don’t go here.
Everything was incredible, we look forward to our return!
Absolutely wonderful Friday night stay at the Feathered Nest. Very warm and welcoming. We stayed in the cottage which was just gorgeous, our own kitchen and living space with a fire set for you ready to light when you arrive which was lovely to enjoy while we relaxed and got ready for dinner. Bed and pillows were very comfy and the shower was great. Lovely old and beautifully decorated pub side to the restaurant where we enjoyed a drink made by the lovely barman before we sat for dinner. We both had the taster menu which was incredible start to finish. You could tell all ingredients and produce were of great quality and cooked to perfection with care by the head chef Renee who came out and served a few of the courses and poured the jus for the venison. Very personable and a lovely gentleman. Waitress’ were lovely and attentive. Delicious pastries and full English for breakfast the following morning, again the quality of ingredients were excellent, the sausage and black pudding especially. Had a lovely walk around the fields leading back up to the village, perfect end to a fantastic stay. Will definitely return!
Excellent all round experience
We booked in advance for dinner, bed and breakfast. We were welcomed and made to feel at home - rooms were comfortable and well appointed - beds and linen excellent quality and comfortable, good facilities with SMART TV, digital radio, coffee machine, bolted water etc. Rooms were very quiet and we slept well. We had drinks in the bar area in front of the real fire - special mention goes to Rui (I hope I have spelled that correctly) who made consistently excellent cocktails and was very attentive throughout our stay. Dinner was excellent - we had the six course tasting menu and every course was fabulous. Our excellent visit was rounded off with a lovely breakfast the following morning. We were very pleased with our stay, loved the for and drinks, and felt comfortable in our rooms. An excellent experience.
Absolutely amazing food and ambience !!! Went here on a
Absolutely amazing food and ambience !!! Went here on a trip to England and wanted somewhere special for my anniversary dinner ! It did not disappoint, from the food to the atmosphere to the service. The drink menu was amazing as well. The service was also 5 star.
