I have to say this is one of the best brunch places in Seattle. We ordered latte, it was great! Food was amazing. Servers were friendly. The whole vibe in the store is nice.

I first tried this restaurant with another reviewer a few years ago but I would agree with Justin's review about The Fat Hen being a triple threat. The service has always been highly satisfying and I am impressed they know my friend by name every time. The food is always great and is my favorite place for brunch in Seattle. My favorite order is the mushroom egg thing and a lemon cloud cookie. I'll usually steal a couple of fingerling potatoes from my friend as I just can't resist. One comment I have is that the space is a little small, and so the wait can be a little longer but it's totally worth it. There is a bakery across the street that you can peruse while waiting for for seating.

The waitress was rude and cut me off/interrupted me more than once when trying to order. It's like she uses the automatic 20% gratuity added to the total as an excuse to be rude. There are no substations or modifications which is unfortunate as I am vegetarian. The food is subpar and disappointing that the only non dairy milk alternative is oat milk. I also witnessed the waitress being rude to others and as a previous review stated appeared to be discriminatory towards certain people. It's a very small cafe with very limited seating.
Be the first to ReplyIf you love smash burgers you have to get the breakfast
If you love smash burgers you have to get the breakfast smash, a perfectly sized double patty smash burger with an egg, pickled onions, and decadent sauce. It makes for a rather light meal with the house salad which was delicious. The cold brew was strong and I usually prefer it a little sweeter but it definitely hit the spot. It's such a cute little shop with baked goods and lovely service.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was good.
The place is overhyped though and very mediocre for the price. Hate to say that the cookie I ordered for my kid was the highlight of the breakfast but it was.

Amazing food! You must try the orange juice, it's so good! I would recommend the shakshuka, it comes with bread that is delicious to dip with. We also got the alla boscaiola which was good, but the lamb meatballs was a little too gamey and the cold yogurt threw me off. We also tried the ricotta toast which was okay. But overall I still give it 5 stars because the ambiance is nice and the food was still delicious and hearty. Reservations are needed!

Perfect place for a weekend brunch with friends - great brunch food and beverages. Seating capacity is relatively limited so make sure to book ahead. In our case, had to do take out since we didn't reserve a table online, but the biscuits and coffee were still delicious to eat/drink on the walk back home!

When you have to a make reservations almost 3 weeks in advance, you gotta know the anticipation level is going to be high! The Fat Hen did not disappoint! Staff was friendly, helpful, and on point. From the time you check in, till you leave. It was also helpful that our waitress was the wife of the cook.. full of inside information. A small quaint place, part of the reasons for wait for reservations. Situated in the Ballard district of Seattle, a few other eateries and coffee shops nearby, but mostly a cute old neighborhood. Parking wasn't too difficult and not a far walk. A small food menu, but full of delicious tempting food and drinks. Tough choices for sure, with returning visits to try more, guaranteed. My friend started with a Mocha and I ordered the Italian Hazelnut chocolate cold brew, both were very chocolatey and full of great coffee flavor. They also have a very tempting 'boozy' (cute) drinks menu, which is definitely going to be tried next time. My friend ordered the Welsh toast, while I ordered the Shakshuka with lamb meatballs, something I had been wanting to try for a long time, but it's not a common menu item. The meals came out quickly, and looked delicious. The Welsh toast tasted amazing! The blend of the levian toast, pineapple chutney, Black Forest ham, beer cheese and egg, was a very flavorful masterpiece, a great combination of flavors. The Shakshuka came out bubbling in a small pan, very hot! Dipping pieces of baguette in the tasty tomato sauce with harissa, spicy pepper mix and herbs was delicious alone, while waiting for it to cool a little. A few bites into the mixture of eggs, Greek yogurt and lamb meatballs, a foodie heaven! So rich and flavorful, definitely living up to anticipations and expectations. Worth savoring each bite and dip with the bread. It didn't take long to enjoy the delicious meal. Looking around, I could see others enjoying their meals as well, and making a list of next time tries. Great atmosphere for a 'teeny, tiny' place, great service and delicious food, well worth the wait. Get your reservations in now, you will not be disappointed. Yelping on, God bless and Cheers!
Be the first to ReplyGreat brunch spot.
It's a small place, and a reservation is a must, unless you're okay with waiting for 2+ hours. The food was fantastic - although whether it's worth the wait is your preference. We got the Ricotta toast and Shakshuka. The toast had a really unique date spread on top of the ricotta, which was delicious and had well balanced flavors. The toast could have been slightly warmer and crisper, but was otherwise great. The Shakshuka was fantastic, perfectly poached fresh eggs and the tomato sauce paired nicely with the cream/yogurt. The bread that came with it was a fresh baguette which was delicious. Coffee was good too, overall this place is hard to beat!

The hollandaise on the eggs benedict was good and so were the potatoes. The scone was decent and the hot chocolate we ordered (not pictured) was lukewarm and not very chocolatey. As for the Welsh toast, we were not a fan but we can't fault them for that because it may be that we don't particularly like Welsh toast (it was our first time trying it). Overall, it was alright but we'd rather try other places.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best breakfast in town.
The Eggs Benedict is second to none. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy, partly because of the decor, and also because seating is very limited. This is not the place for trying to sneak your extended family in for brunch at 11 on the weekend.

Best eggs Benedict! Long waits though, I would make a reservation! Smashed potatoes are seasoned really well. Super yummy!
Be the first to ReplyWow oh wow! What a dish.
.. I had the sashuka and it was delicious! Oozing with cheese. You'll need an extra side of bread to soak everything up. We had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation since it's a very small establishment. Worth the wait!
Be the first to ReplyThe Fat Hen has the best lattes in Seattle and the best egg
The Fat Hen has the best lattes in Seattle and the best egg Benedict, hands down. The funky friendly staff are always careful. Covid notes: Two two-tops outside for the summer, but the constant open door makes the interior breezy. They have a minisplit with HEPA filter inside as well.

Wonderful little gem on a quaint street with other great spots. Service was wonderful and our server was so friendly and really seemed to enjoy what they do My friend and I both got Skillets (top: Camicia bottom: Alla Boscaiola) both super flavorful and the bread that comes with it is perfectly crunchy for added texture. Additionally try the house hot sauce, my friend really enjoyed it on top of his skillet.

We went a few months ago and I can still recall the vibrant taste of the skillet dish. Yum! Highly recommend this place!
Be the first to ReplyI always make my way here when I visit Seattle and I never
I always make my way here when I visit Seattle and I never stop raving about this place. It's easily one of my favorite brunch spots and I'd say their eggs benedict be better than any in Los Angeles. I normally go for their sweet toast which uses Grand Central levain, a perfectly crusty bread with a soft inner texture and it's amazingly savory. The toast is topped with their in-house made ricotta cheese and "sweet" jams/marmalade are made in-house changing with the season. The other star of the meal was their smashed fingerling potatoes that comes as a side with the eggs benedict. Upon the first bite, my friend said holy sh** and couldn't stop smiling. She also wouldn't stop raving about the potatoes to all our friends and said it was the best thing she ate after a 4 day Seattle visit full of food adventures. The prices have definitely risen over the years, but the same goes for all the restaurants since the pandemic. It's still worth a visit! Needless to say, this place is great and I recommend this spot to all my friends visiting Seattle. Also, I suggest making a reservation if you're planning on having a meal there Friday - Sunday.

Be the first to ReplyI ordered the Shakshuka but ended up loving the crab
I ordered the Shakshuka but ended up loving the crab Benedict that my bf ordered! It's so interesting that the crab Benedict looks kinda pale and doesn't look like much but it's packed with flavor! The crab is so fresh. The server said they get it from a local vendor or a seller within WA, if I remember correctly. The Shakshuka was good but was a bit spicier than I'd like. So if you like spicy stuff, give this dish a try. I wasn't wowed by the Nutella drink, but I loved the butterscotch latte! My friend ordered a mocha and it was pretty good too! It wasn't too sweet so you still get coffee with just a bit of chocolate.

Food is great, but coffee is terrible! A place that specializes in breakfasts needs to also specialize in great coffee. I ordered a regular drip coffee with cream. The coffee was so acidic that it made the cream curdle. I've never seen anything like it. It was disgusting. The waiter was reluctant to give me another cup because he said that it happens all of the time due to the high acidity of the coffee. If that is the case, change your coffee!
