The English House by Marco Pierre White Singapore Reviews from The Last Year
One of the best Sunday roasts in Singapore!
Had a wonderful Sunday roast - one of the best in Singapore - beef was tender and juicy and all the accompaniments were done perfectly. I will definitely get the larger portion the next time. Service was fantastic as always and the music was great - I asked the manager what they were playing and without hesitation, he shared the Spotify playlist with me! The table next to us ordered the Cantonese dishes of roast pork and it look delicious - fatty and crispy. Will definitely consider ordering that the next time too. Highly recommend this long staple in the area!
Good ambience
Good service, ambience, food. Ordered the set meal, their mushroom cappuccino was heavenly, highly recommend to try it.
great service, western & chinese menu in a heritage shophouse
Chanced upon The English House while waiting for our daughter to finish her afternoon class nearby - glad we came in! (we were dressed casually but not an issue here) Staff were hospitable, answered my questions on some of the decor, shophouse elements and recommended food that my husband and I enjoyed. We had Fish & Chips and this yummy fish dumpling (not sure if it's off-menu) Appreciate this touch for Mother's Day. Will be back :)
Excellent Service
I Applaud the way you reply to an injustice review. Looking down on others at the way they dress is absolutely disgusting. People who wears slippers are human too and paying customer. I will definitely recommend friends to your establishment. Well done to your team in Singapore Marco Pierre White
Dress code was not enforced equally
Food was generally ok but the music was too loud which made it hard to have a decent conversation. What was worse was that people who did not observe the dress code were allowed to come in. This makes a mockery of the restaurant dress code especially when we were reminded about it as we were making the reservation. It seems as if special treatment was given to those who know the owner of the restaurant. That's revolting! That is simply not correct. The diner was allowed into the restaurant wearing open-toe slippers when the website clearly states that diners are not allowed to wear singlets or slippers. If the restaurant does not intend to enforce the dress code, then don't expect diners to comply with it. The worse thing is to enforce it against some diners while others can get away with it.
Always a delight dining at this restaurant!
The 4-course tasting set menus are very reasonably priced and also delicious! We started with the tomatoes & 30 month Parma ham bruschetta, followed by mushroom cappuccino soup with fish cake on the side. Optional main dish of pan seared black cod or platter of 3 meats (roast duck, grilled beef fillet & grilled sirloin). Completed with sumptuous chocolate mousse.
Simply The Best!
Went here again last night with friends and again we had a superb meal. The food is fabulous and it’s very good value for money! Each of the 4 course tasting set menu was superb, the Pan Seared Wild Cod was outstanding. Both the inflation wines was well priced and was particularly a good one. All of the staff were friendly and attentive and really added a plus point to the occasion. Don’t change a thing you are perfect ! Thank you all, we will definitely be coming back and recommending you.
Disappointed
Very disappointing visit. Great attentive staff, very average food, zero atmosphere. Couple that with A4 printed laminated menus, not sure if MPW was aiming this low? Wouldn’t recommend.
THE ENGLISH HOUSE IS A PLACE TO BE...
What you get for 9.99 no service charge at The English House is incredibly crazy for it's generous portion, intricate interior, impeccable service, premium ingredients and most importantly cooked passionately absolutely delicious. In my opinion, this is in different league compared to big restaurant groups and fast food chain. You feel humanity here! Bravo to Marco Pierre White and his team. Highly recommended
Pork cheek stood out for its rich flavor
After sampling a variety of dishes including mini beef Wellington, dim sum, fish and chips, pork cheek, cream pasta, and dessert, I found the classic Western cuisine to be particularly impressive. The pork cheek stood out for its tender texture and rich flavor, complemented by well-prepared side vegetables. The mini beef Wellington showcased a delightful flakiness in its pastry, adding to its appeal. However, while the dim sum offered a decent selection, there is room for improvement in its dim sum pricing and the flavor of it.
Hidden little gem in Singapore.
Delighted to find this little gem! In Singapore for one night following a cruise. Marco Pierre White has opened this restaurant with rooms, which is a short journey from the City centre. We used the MRT from Esplanade to Fort Canning (change at Promenade) and then had a 5-10 minute walk to the restaurant. It was well worth it. We both had the fish and chips (accompanied with mushy peas and tartare sauce) which were cooked to perfection. We also had 3 beers, a couple of white wines and a bottle of still water. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They made us very welcome. The restaurant interior is full of Terry O'Neill photos, JAK cartoons and a quirky collection of other items. A very enjoyable visit.
BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE
There was such a bag of mixed reviews for this restaurant that I booked with not a little trepidation! I went with my son to celebrate his birthday and indicated it in my reservation. I wanted the occasion to be a happy one obviously. All my fears were totally unwarranted as the food was great and service excellent. We asked our server about portions and she was bang on about what we needed to order! She also caveated that as the food was cooked to order there is a wait time of about 20 minutes. We ordered the fish and chips and the braised beef cheeks. Fish was fresh and batter coating crispy and just the right thickness. It was served with triple cooked chips which were light and crispy and mushy peas. The only comment on my dish was it could do with a little more salt for some I think. I was fine with my dish as I tend to eat less salt but some may find it slightly under-salted but something that could be easily remedied with a salt shaker. My son loved the beef cheek which was so tender it almost melted in the mouth. he had 3 substantial pieces of the cheek and a huge amount of vegetables and he was properly stuffed when he finished. He gamely ordered the tiramisu and we were surprised that he was given a complimentary chocolate mousse to commemorate his birthday! I expected that in ordering the tiramisu they would put a candle on it and a chocolate birthday plaque (which many other restaurants do). So we stuffed ourselves with both the mousse and the tiramisu. YUMMY! Mousse is worth the calories as it used very dark chocolate and good quality one at that. We both like our tiramisu more boozy than what was prepared but again that is personal preference! Overall, a great dining experience! Many thanks to the staff and restaurant who made our dining experience special. The restaurant's decor is incredibly beautiful and quirky. Very Instagram worthy! I will definitely go back again and my son is already planning his next visit!
Never fails to please. Splendid meal!
Outstanding tasting menus and top notch service. A meal at TEH never fails to please. Kudos also for arguably the best lohei I have ever had. Will be back for sure. Thanks!
Dinner with Family at The English House
Had dinner at The English House with my family, Great ambience, friendly staff and most importantly food was good.
Great Food Great Service
Good food, great price with high-quality ingredients. Due to the popularity of their tiramisu it was sold out but they upgraded it to the apple crumble and it was amazing. Worth the visit and definitely will visit again. Spent less than $80 for bruschetta ham, mushroom soup, vegetable dumpling, apple crumble and a premium ribeye steak. You won't find a deal as good as this anywhere else!
Delicious Food and Good Service
The wild cod fish cakes, Lobster Linguine, Tiramisu, and mini red bean sesame balls were delicious. Service was good. We will be back to try the CNY menu.
Exemplary Christmas Lunch
Our first Christmas Dinner (Lunch) with our 17 day old grandson. The staff had thoughtfully placed us in an area where there were other young children and babies: so nobody minded if there was the odd scream or squawk. Have had quite a few restaurant Christmas Dinners, and they've often been very ordinary, but this was the best I've had and beat expectations. The amuse-bouche and starters were tasty and generally local/fusion in style. The main course had all you'd expect from a Christmas dinner and the pudding was excellent. The wine list was eclectic and have to applaud the inflation beater wine we ordered to have with our first courses. At only SGD40 it was a pleasant surprise and the restaurant should be applauded for that. Had a good red from St Chinian with the main which was also appreciated. Service was good: in all a near-perfect occasion.
Sunday Lunch
A lovely restaurant with great service, a special thanks to Mohamed Fareed the Assistant Manager for a very welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable lunch experience, we will return soon. Jason J
A happy repeat diner
We have been to The English House to each family member's birthday and have enjoyed ourselves on each occasion. It's definitely the beef wellington for someone in our party each time - simply delicious! I think they may be less generous with their portion sizes than before but that is hardly surprising given the current financial climate. We still left the restaurants with a full tummies and will be back again in the not too distant future!
This is the place for a true English feast.
Fish and chips here are my go-to: beer battered cod wrapped in newspaper, properly English thick-cut chips (not thin French fries!), tartar sauce, and mushy peas. The accoutrements, including the tartar sauce, are homemade, which I appreciate. The slow braised ox cheek on the recession-busting menu (more on that later) is also excellent. Tender, melt-in-your-mouth, served with a side of mash and steamed veggies. I love the rotating daily "Recession Busting" menu item for S$9.99. The English House is one of the few restaurants offering a choice to guests to save, in thanks for their patronage. More beautiful words have not been said: "We are heading South instead of North." The interior reeks of a charming antique shop -- the restaurant is adorned with various sculptures of past and present, Eastern and Western. It's a lovely atmosphere that I haven't quite found anywhere else.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
